After 10 months in Indonesia, I've arrived in the next destination, Sri Lanka. I was very curious for this adventure, as there is a big hype around this place, comparing it to Indonesia. I confess that I was looking for knowing the South side of the country, as it has much more options, surf spots and it is more cheap then the East coast.
But, this time of the year it is East coast season, so I decided to head to Arugam Bay. To get here is a bit of a roller coaster, specially if you are coming from a long flight, because after you arrive in the airport, near Colombo, you still need to drive for at least 7h...
It is true what it is being said, less people, less crowd, but as this is to far away from everything, the prices are higher than Indonesia. There are already a lot of Hotels, Restaurants with western vibes (and prices). Still, you can manage to get local food for lower prices (Rice Curry and Roti are the main options).
Another thing is that, even though you can walk in the Bay to Main Point, if you want to go to the other surf spots, you'll need to get a Tuk Tuk taxi or rent one for your self, because Scooters with surf racks are banned here (they were taking the business from the Tuk Tuk taxis).
