Right you are. I drove regional for a now defunct 'Less Than Truckload' (LTL) carrier for a couple of years and had to quit due to medical reasons. There's a lot more to driving than videos like this can show (for the most part). Delays everywhere typically. You're usually paid by the mile so when you are sitting you're not making money. Company drivers get screwed the worst. I used to get stuck behind trains in rail yards and have to sit there for *hours* waiting for the train to move. Then there's the waiting to get loaded (and unloaded, if you're doing OTR or Pick-up & Delivery (local)). When you're stuck in the middle of an accident you're not making money either...sometimes for *hours* .

I was in 3 terminals in my 30 year career with my trucking company. I'm not sure how it works at warehouses but sleepers and swing door don't go well with a loaded dock. Our terminals ran 24/7 6 days a week, we made the independent driver wait till later in the afternoon to unload. We had over 120 city driver and our own over the road driver. The independent driver sometime made the yard a road block, they often came back to ask for another door or put their load in the wrong door altogether...

Did a good job. Chicago sucks for truckers. Especially at night. I see a lot of truckers around here refuse to deliver at night because of all the assaults and robberies on drivers. You can’t even stop completely at stop signs or you’ll get robbed.
