If the receiver has not signed for the freight it’s not theirs.. Do you not get detention time or layover time. I do but then I drive expedited freight. I had Walmart lock me in and take the keys and then tell me that I would get unloaded 6 hours later. I demanded my keys back and demanded to be unlocked and when they said no , I called the cops and said I was being held against my will. Cops showed and I and the single skid paying $140 also left along with the truck. The cops had words with management.

Had a buddy deliver to Walart in Raymond, NH he got their 2 hours before his appointment they locked him onsite for 26 hours wouldn't let him leave. No food or bathroom for drivers waiting. He called the cops the State Police showed up, Wal-Mart said the trailer was loaded with their freight so he couldn't leave and they couldn't offload him for another 24 hours. He pushed 6 pallets off the back of his trailer and the police escorted him out. He lost 2 other well paying loads because Wal-Mart played games. He said he would never haul again for them.

When I back into a tight spot like that, I always leave a couple of inches between the dolly pads and the ground. That way, when I dump the bags to drop the trailer, I can back under it with them inflated to pick it up off the ground. Then, I can hook up my air and power and pull the trailer out far enough that I have room to crank the dollies up.

It's their training. I tried getting a job there before. They played first come first serve for hire. I went to orientation, came in the next day for orientation. I was 15 min early and they said they already had the number of people needed and I no longer had a job. 2 other people came in behind me same thing. On the day I went for orientation a part of the training was if you see a co-worker fall don't help them. It's a liability! An example they gave was if someone is falling down the stairs to let them fall and get a supervisor. They don't deserve to be in business.

As for the trailer dropping moments, it brings my memories of Spartan Express switcher job I did long time ago. Tight spots, bad spots, crushed swing doors, busted mirrors, locked brakes, no brakes, flat tires, nose heavy trailers and a bunch of other every day adventures from my past...

RDCs (regional distribution Centres) have been doing this for decades. Driver is told to be there at a set time, arrives in good time only to be told to wait, then when he does get on the unloading Dock he then sits there for hours. Why, no room in the warehouse so they use your truck as storage . The worst one's are those that want your ignition key , real good idea especially in the winter months because there's nothing better than getting colder and colder whilst you wait for them to upload your truck. My dad refused to hand over his key at one place it was minus 5 out side and no independent night heater to keep the cab warm.

I worked for Amazon, your absolutely correct. I have disabilities and they treated me like a piece of dirt. I told them that they were breaking federal law by harassing a disabled person and forcing people to stand in one place for 3 hrs without food or potty breaks. When I was getting hurt they were pushing for me to continue and try to walk off a sprained ankle and a busted knee. I barely could walk. They say their main priority is consumers. They should be worried about their employees first.

There should be a law that says if a driver has a certain appointment time and they are at that time, they get paid $120 an hour to the truck for each and every hour they are there. If it's 1 hour= $120 or if it's 24 hours= $2880. They will find a place to put that freight. The truck/driver did its job.

. My grandfather was killed when his head was crushed on a loading dock while driving a forklift because someone moved their truck. Crazy, right? True though, I have the death certificate and reports.Maybe something like that happened at that company. @@lululovesyou7618 I am sorry to hear about your grandfather. His unfortunate death may have helped others by new rules being implemented. I was once loading a trailer when the driver pulled out and that could have had a bad ending for me. After that the company I worked for installed "dock locks", a large steel hook which was activated by the loader from inside the building. That hook held the trailer to prevent it from being pulled out before the loader released it.
