Dealerships are thieves for the most part, 4K is a lot but congratulations on your new upgrade! You’ll definitely survive just keep on trucking. Remember tough times don’t last but tough people do!
Hang in there brotha. Will all make it out of this. Just keep your head up and keep working. Motor looks good
Yeah it hurts man but you now have a reliable “new” old truck. The major shit is done and now you can make money. Youre still better off than these new trucks with all their sensors. My truck was down for a month for one nox sensor on the exhaust, no bull. Drive it easy, keep the oil changed, do your warmups and cool downs and that thing will last you over another million👍🏻
I have a GK model 12.7 crate. it sputters when it's cold out 45deg or less. Also blows alot of smoke . Changed engines still the same. How you survive is get off of spot market. Can't run a business on spot freight. I lease to a carrier. After their % still avg 28 3500 sometime 4k. I get contract freight OH to Houston round trip 10k reefer. OH to Utah 6500. OH to TN 1800. 4 accts in OH pay $1100 on less than 60miles. 80hr Detention $100 stop. Truck relocate fee. Sometimes I get Fsc on Mt miles . You'll never see that from a broker. Lease to a carrier ride their shirt tails . Market changes go back to Spot. I personally been trucking 31yrs I have never owned my authority. However my carrier allows me to pull spot freight if I choose to position myself for contract loads . There's money out here the brokers are killing it . Google Profit margins its all public info for any Brokerage. 1 Brokerage in 2018 had 1.4B profits 2021 7B . They're getting paid on contract loads same as my carrier that has 120 truck fleet . They know you depend on them so they steal from you every penny they can. Tech has made it easier for them to cover loads which lowers demand and more money in their pockets .

Yea I mean you ain’t lying, I think too many of us are dreaming of fully self employed and own companies but I guess sometimes we gotta accept that running under someone’s rather than your own authority just might be a better way to run. Idk we’ll see what happens
Thanks for letting us follow your journey. I learn from your videos like many of us, not just about trucking, but how you handle life's issues :)
Thank u for this video, I was contemplating on either getting a rebuild or going ur route and I will definitely get a crate.
Right there with you. Hope your story turns upbeat sooner than later. Good luck hard working trucker!!
Buddy your are a very practical guy . You will do it . I am very confident in you .
Good luck with the new engine, let's hope that engine earns a new truck.greeting’s from down under 🇦🇺
I think you made the right decision. Just maintain and go.
You're good because at the end of the day your truck is still paid for. I enjoy your vlogs. Safe travels.😁🙏
Looks good man .The way to go..i dumped a shitload of money in my truck to..Hang in there..Owner op till the end..Brother
idk how you not more popular, nobody is as entertaining or as real as you when its come to trucking vlogs, i study the way you move and the moves you make so i too can be a young successful owner operator.
You'll make it through keep your head up! And it's not a crate motor it's just reman that's why they want the core
You got a decent deal. I priced out a 3/4 long block and I was quoted 32000 for a 14l 60 series. And thats in new jersey. Keep your head up. I'm grinding every day with you bro.
The route you took is smart 2 me. We will make it outta this mess 🙏🏾🙏🏾
It's yours you own it don't worry about what everyone else's opinion is. You don't have a truck note & you don't have that headache. Unfortunately it's part of the game stuff breaks & it's a big hit on the pocket. Glad you got it back on the road. God bless!
That engine bay is looking so GOOD ❤️
But you got it done… Super proud of you kid 👊🏾
The most legit video I seen so far! Real trucking struggles, I alway see this new owner operator with stupid jewelry and expensive cars showing of and talking big money but at the end of the day trucking for me half of it is hard work the other half is good money management( know how to take decision which experience plays I huge part on that one) experience has a price sadly! I hope things get better, I’m a new subscriber👌
Great video boss! 🤟🤟

I know those engines do an injector self test. On the 98 and newer from what I’ve seen. That might be what that sound is. Also that sputter could be the fuel bleeding down. But you start it up enough to where it doesn’t get a chance to leak down enough to cause it to die out.
Who said you were better with a new truck? You have a classic truck and a bad ass engine. You go make money now
Young man, there's 3 characteristic of an good thinkers, 'inquisitiveness with regard to a wide range of issues. concern to become and remain well-informed. attentive to opportunities to use critical thinking. self-confidence in one's own abilities to reason. Stay positive and believe in yourself and the decision you made. everyone makes mistake, no one is perfect'. But hey, Now a non thinker is impulsive, that act on instinct, without thinking decisions through. they need others to do their thinking for them which are going on a lot in America.
Alot of people don't replace what they need to on inframes. I paid 6700 on labor 10k on parts had the head rebuilt and the block cut for 2650. My turbo and water pump was replace prior to the breakdown.
Great video 😊
All that was a rough way to go so you can have something nice and keep working. Wish it didn't have to be so hard trying to make in our there in Trucker World. Then you have to get decent loads to carry on.. Stay safe OT ROOKIE. 🙏❤️
Don’t idle for long periods. If you have to bump up the rpm’s with the cruise control. It helps keep the heat in the engine and less chance of unburnt fuel washing out the liners

What engine temp will u end up with unburnt fuel?
Your engine looks great hopefully it can run a little longer time you know I know you put all money and everything too but it's better than not trying to do it for yourself have somebody fix it for you but yeah hopefully it will be all right
Sretno Rasime!
Bypass the valves under the cab for the fuel. Those valves suck and cause all kinds of fuel issues. Just put pipe collars in their place. Will eliminate your starting issue..
I mean, basically at this point, you have a very solid workhorse. Still under what you would pay new. Keep your head up.
Take it to Pittsburgh Power, have them take a look at it and tune it on the the dyno. They did my inframe 700k miles ago, still running strong
A Mr.-O.R. Trucker keep your head up don't let the hard times make you quit keep on doing what you love love what you do 🍀🤠👌🤙👍💯🙏☝️.
That definitely sounds like it’s sucking air I hope you replaced all your fuel lines when you did the rebuild
Hell you did right bro🎉🎉
You have the easiest and most cost effective truck to maintain on the road (and highly sought after). We're gonna have to have an intervention.
that sputter is just in the ecm tuning and can be remedied so don't worry plus all money spent is deductible on your taxes this year..you have a NEW truck with an old paint look..haul acid out of St. Louis its paying $5.00--$6.00 a mile

Long time no see, it seems like it’s been a while since you last uploaded!
Stay positive. Think of all the $$$ you’re saving by not having emissions crap plus not having to taking it in for recall work while still paying $3k a month for the payment.
End of 2021 I had to have my DD15 replaced. I payed 21k for a 3/4 block reman from Detroit. Then it was 11k for labor. It came with 1year unlimited mile warranty.
Damn bro I feel for you man it sucks how they try to charge the smaller guys more, seems like politics to me but I'm rooting for you though. You seem like a good hard working dude hopefully things come together
I have a Columbia, I relate with about Freightliner part guys trying to make more money. I have one guy I work with at freightliner who gives me better prices. You have to find that one guy who will hook you up. One example I’ll give, the ICU I was quoted by one guy 1 grand he quoted me. The current guy I work with $400 for the same ICU.
Tip. If your hood breaks. You can get them custom made, they out of Mexico. Freightliner does not make them.
i have a friend that has his own truck and company. he barely goes out. he now works as independent contractor driving companies trucks when they need him instead. i was thinking of getting my own but nah.

You got to run overhead on that, those valves aren't set from factory. From experience, good luck.
As an Australian our load prices are crap here too, I wonder now your 40k in the hole is it worth looking at local jobs staying close to home for a while and secure more work. I watched another KZread who compared his income from long haul to local. Obviously $$$ per load was less but he was able to secure more work and getting the jobs done a lot quicker there for able to secure that next job, rather then driving 3000 miles for one job. I think you should have keeped your 40k and went on holidays. 🤣
Bro I feel you we be in the same parts I ready putting 44k only in 1years and couple months and still have the same problem
Bro I just rebuilt my 12.7 in my back yard. Took 5 weeks to get parts, but it only cost me around $7k to fully inframe it with a brand new head w 14L valves and springs The freightliner ppl told me the same thing when I went to them, they couldn’t or wouldn’t even sell me the rebuild kit! I went thru a company out of Fla to get it. Got engine rebuilt and transmission went out on first load. Transmission only had 400k miles on it 😩😩😩. Still a brand new trans and fully rebuilt engine was around $14k

Deductible don't mean nothing .You can only deduct so much . How much your out of pocket and set back for does matter . If your an owner operator and don't have 35 - 45k in the bank your running on borrowed time . How many owner opps out there have that much in the bank ? I'd guess very few .
Hindsight is 20/20 only because you have more info now you made the best choice your good, going foreward i would do Oil Analysis at PM SERVCE TO COVER YOUR ASS UNDER WARRANTY!

@OTRookie People like you are the pioneers of our trucking industry my friend. It's the owner operators that take all the risks, while us company drivers do not. As a business owner, you will ALWAYS be the ones that get hated on, criticized, ridiculed, and laughed at. But you know what ? You guys are the ones with the stones to go out on your own and do it. Ya sure, right now times are FCVKING tough. But they will get better. I know I know I know everyone always says that. For what it's worth, myself and many others here on your page have a crap ton of respect for you. And another thing. . . it takes guts to go on a public channel and admit you made a mistake and face the haters and people laughing at you for it. To the haters I say "GO FCVK YOURSELF" and laugh back at em. You may not remember me but I'm the guy from Ontario Canada that replied to on of your videos a while back asking about tips on what to do when you get lost in a truck in an unfamiliar city. Your reply was "pull over ASAP, put the 4-ways on, get out a map and figure it out but stay cool". Well, I did get lost once, and yes I did figure it out, thanks to you man. I watch all the videos you put out but I don't always reply, mostly because I don't have anything to contribute. I'm just a noob company driver and I'm 60 years old. . . don't ask smh. I listen to what you have to say and enjoy watching the docking and riding videos as I follow along on google maps. I see the road signs and businesses in the videos and it's like I'm in the passenger seat lol. Keep doing what your doing my friend, and keep the rubber side down. Mike

hey I’m a new owner operator and I have a lot of mechanical issues at the very beginning and I wasn’t very profitable but I was able to finally fix up the issues it turns out it was DPF filters and a wiring harness so five grand later everything‘s running great I’m starting to pick up more profitable but I’ll be honest I haven’t made that much money this year But my question for you is why didn’t you do an in frame rebuild or even out of the frame rebuild shouldn’t you have done that and avoid having to go through the process of the engine have a low fuel mileage for a little while would’ve been a lot cheaper as well I don’t really know so I’m just asking because I know eventually I’m gonna have to deal with this and I just wanna know as much information as possible

Crate engine will run you maybe 20% more than an inframe and it’s brand new everything. Inframe is just internals, out of frame will run you more than a crate engine and will take 2x as long to get done. If you got a brand new engine never been done, inframe is fine I’d say but if you got an engine that’s already been done once and good amount of miles on it just get a crate engine and get moving. That’s my unprofessional I got fucked over a lot of times and that’s how I came to this conclusion opinion, and word of advice if you wanna get work done at freightliner call dealers down south especially in Alabama. I heard they have best prices, I could’ve got all work done as I did for probably little less than I paid and got a 300k mile warranty with it. Live and learn
That's correct, big business is structured not to GAF about individual owners. What you should have done is stick another driver in your truck IF possible, found a worthy mechanic with credentials and paid him to teach you how to tear down and rebuild the engine yourself. It took me 1 full day to tear down mine to the block and ready to remove. With the rebuild kit on hand , the mechanic on hand you would have rebuilt the engine, gained a working knowledge of your truck and tons of pride. The install usually takes a half a day longer 36 hours because of all the thread locker and cleaning and another full day working out simple electrical issues and shaking out. 17k and you would have a new engine and acquired an education.

I'm selling my truck while it still runs. I don't have 40k and I'm not going into debt to keep doing something that has me broke, isolated, and out of shape. Better to put 40k into another business that doesn't have a system in place to ensure the warm bodies needed to keep rates and wages low keep coming through the door.
Any reason why you didn't just have a decent shop do an inframe instead ? Even doing new front & rear seals you could have came in way less. I wanted to do a new crate motor but all the mechanics steered me away from it for cost savings. I was told it was $10,000 just to swap the engines. Which is why most guys do in frames.. either way you've got one of the best motors on the road & should be good for another 800, 000-1,000,000 miles before you have any injector issues.
