Yeah it hurts man but you now have a reliable “new” old truck. The major shit is done and now you can make money. Youre still better off than these new trucks with all their sensors. My truck was down for a month for one nox sensor on the exhaust, no bull. Drive it easy, keep the oil changed, do your warmups and cool downs and that thing will last you over another million👍🏻

I have a GK model 12.7 crate. it sputters when it's cold out 45deg or less. Also blows alot of smoke . Changed engines still the same. How you survive is get off of spot market. Can't run a business on spot freight. I lease to a carrier. After their % still avg 28 3500 sometime 4k. I get contract freight OH to Houston round trip 10k reefer. OH to Utah 6500. OH to TN 1800. 4 accts in OH pay $1100 on less than 60miles. 80hr Detention $100 stop. Truck relocate fee. Sometimes I get Fsc on Mt miles . You'll never see that from a broker. Lease to a carrier ride their shirt tails . Market changes go back to Spot. I personally been trucking 31yrs I have never owned my authority. However my carrier allows me to pull spot freight if I choose to position myself for contract loads . There's money out here the brokers are killing it . Google Profit margins its all public info for any Brokerage. 1 Brokerage in 2018 had 1.4B profits 2021 7B . They're getting paid on contract loads same as my carrier that has 120 truck fleet . They know you depend on them so they steal from you every penny they can. Tech has made it easier for them to cover loads which lowers demand and more money in their pockets .

Yea I mean you ain’t lying, I think too many of us are dreaming of fully self employed and own companies but I guess sometimes we gotta accept that running under someone’s rather than your own authority just might be a better way to run. Idk we’ll see what happens

Real trucking struggles, I alway see this new owner operator with stupid jewelry and expensive cars showing of and talking big money but at the end of the day trucking for me half of it is hard work the other half is good money management( know how to take decision which experience plays I huge part on that one) experience has a price sadly! I know those engines do an injector self test. On the 98 and newer from what I’ve seen. That might be what that sound is. Also that sputter could be the fuel bleeding down. But you start it up enough to where it doesn’t get a chance to leak down enough to cause it to die out.

Young man, there's 3 characteristic of an good thinkers, 'inquisitiveness with regard to a wide range of issues. concern to become and remain well-informed. attentive to opportunities to use critical thinking. self-confidence in one's own abilities to reason. Stay positive and believe in yourself and the decision you made. everyone makes mistake, no one is perfect'. But hey, Now a non thinker is impulsive, that act on instinct, without thinking decisions through. they need others to do their thinking for them which are going on a lot in America.

I watched another KZread who compared his income from long haul to local. Obviously $$$ per load was less but he was able to secure more work and getting the jobs done a lot quicker there for able to secure that next job, rather then driving 3000 miles for one job. I went thru a company out of Fla to get it. Got engine rebuilt and transmission went out on first load. Transmission only had 400k miles on it 😩😩😩. @OTRookie People like you are the pioneers of our trucking industry my friend. It's the owner operators that take all the risks, while us company drivers do not. As a business owner, you will ALWAYS be the ones that get hated on, criticized, ridiculed, and laughed at. But you know what ? You guys are the ones with the stones to go out on your own and do it. Ya sure, right now times are FCVKING tough. But they will get better. I know I know I know everyone always says that. For what it's worth, myself and many others here on your page have a crap ton of respect for you. And another thing. . . it takes guts to go on a public channel and admit you made a mistake and face the haters and people laughing at you for it. To the haters I say "GO FCVK YOURSELF" and laugh back at em. You may not remember me but I'm the guy from Ontario Canada that replied to on of your videos a while back asking about tips on what to do when you get lost in a truck in an unfamiliar city. Your reply was "pull over ASAP, put the 4-ways on, get out a map and figure it out but stay cool". Well, I did get lost once, and yes I did figure it out, thanks to you man. I watch all the videos you put out but I don't always reply, mostly because I don't have anything to contribute. I'm just a noob company driver and I'm 60 years old. . . don't ask smh. I listen to what you have to say and enjoy watching the docking and riding videos as I follow along on google maps. I see the road signs and businesses in the videos and it's like I'm in the passenger seat lol. Keep doing what your doing my friend, and keep the rubber side down. Mike

hey I’m a new owner operator and I have a lot of mechanical issues at the very beginning and I wasn’t very profitable but I was able to finally fix up the issues it turns out it was DPF filters and a wiring harness so five grand later everything‘s running great I’m starting to pick up more profitable but I’ll be honest I haven’t made that much money this year But my question for you is why didn’t you do an in frame rebuild or even out of the frame rebuild shouldn’t you have done that and avoid having to go through the process of the engine have a low fuel mileage for a little while would’ve been a lot cheaper as well I don’t really know so I’m just asking because I know eventually I’m gonna have to deal with this and I just wanna know as much information as possible

Crate engine will run you maybe 20% more than an inframe and it’s brand new everything. Inframe is just internals, out of frame will run you more than a crate engine and will take 2x as long to get done. If you got a brand new engine never been done, inframe is fine I’d say but if you got an engine that’s already been done once and good amount of miles on it just get a crate engine and get moving. That’s my unprofessional I got fucked over a lot of times and that’s how I came to this conclusion opinion, and word of advice if you wanna get work done at freightliner call dealers down south especially in Alabama. I heard they have best prices, I could’ve got all work done as I did for probably little less than I paid and got a 300k mile warranty with it. Live and learn

That's correct, big business is structured not to GAF about individual owners. What you should have done is stick another driver in your truck IF possible, found a worthy mechanic with credentials and paid him to teach you how to tear down and rebuild the engine yourself. It took me 1 full day to tear down mine to the block and ready to remove. With the rebuild kit on hand , the mechanic on hand you would have rebuilt the engine, gained a working knowledge of your truck and tons of pride. The install usually takes a half a day longer 36 hours because of all the thread locker and cleaning and another full day working out simple electrical issues and shaking out. 17k and you would have a new engine and acquired an education.

now the real question. was all that cash ? if yes, maaaan you can save with these rates being like that 😂😂😂😂 i got an 11.1L 95’ model with 1.5 mill now original miles. has leak between front cover and block so im just ignoring it. i tried some stop leak lucas but still leaking. i have to add a gallon of oil or so weekly. so basically might be looking for overhaul or new engine. but my motor is old with no piston coolers and only 1250 tq so might as well get new one. PS Clarke power in nashville have it for 30k they even have 14l pre egr “power house” they call it for 36k

I'm selling my truck while it still runs. I don't have 40k and I'm not going into debt to keep doing something that has me broke, isolated, and out of shape. Better to put 40k into another business that doesn't have a system in place to ensure the warm bodies needed to keep rates and wages low keep coming through the door.

Any reason why you didn't just have a decent shop do an inframe instead ? Even doing new front & rear seals you could have came in way less. I wanted to do a new crate motor but all the mechanics steered me away from it for cost savings. I was told it was $10,000 just to swap the engines. Which is why most guys do in frames.. either way you've got one of the best motors on the road & should be good for another 800, 000-1,000,000 miles before you have any injector issues.

If I was gonna do an inframe it would be done at dealer only, and basic inframe is 22k if you want out of frame it costs more than just doing an engine swap. I paid 5k labor for engine swap, idk made more sense at the time but engines been a nightmare so idk

If it was just about money I’d be long gone. I’d go into sales and make more money I’m making, gotta be nuts to do this shit it’s not easy it’s stressful. You truly gotta love trucking to do it, to me it’s self employment and trucking doesn’t feel like a job. So if money is your main motive then no, you’re better off working 9-5 safe and easy than go trucking and do all this work to make not an insanely more amount.
