ABOUT ME
I’m Fern! A 20-something gal living on beautiful Vancouver Island, Canada with my partner, our 2 dogs, and around 200 houseplants. Plants have changed my life - I love tending to them and sharing the joys and discoveries of my planty journey online. I am passionate about all things living and I have been vegan for over 5 years - it was the best decision I’ve ever made. For those into astrology, I am a gemini sun, scorpio moon, & libra rising. I started out on social media with a focus on makeup/beauty/fashion and am not into it as much, but I do share on those topics from time to time. Thanks for stopping by!

I use floating shelfs on my walls and also book case type shelves for all my plants. I use bar grow lights, and how I attach them is with velcrow command strips. Stick one on the roof of the shelf about the plants, and the other strip on the back of the grow light. Then stick them up. I don't use any wire. All my shelf's are wood, I have 8 floating (4) on either side of my fireplace, about 12-14 in apart from each other, and then I use the stair looking book case and do the same thing with those. Velcro the lights to the roof. The velcrow strips can hold up to 16lbs! My lights weight less the 1lb each! Works amazing! I can send pics if u want to see. I also made my own floating shelfs and installed on my own. Love my setup! It's all style, doesn't look like I'm growing a plant nursery. I have decor in-between plants, and pictures, it's very styled! I get soooo many compliments

I'm so happy you uploaded this today. I JUST got a bag of perlite to pot up my peperomia polybotrya, and I have some water propogations that are taking FOREVER to root. I'm going to move them to perlite today. I'm interested to see how it goes for me, since I'm in the states in NJ. We just got into the rainy and humid early summer season, so hopefully it'll go quick.

The grow light is growstar which was gifted to me, it’s amazinggggg and so good for the plants. They always ask if I have friends who want one too and I’m certain they ship to the USA as they have an Amazon we shop. I’ve got a video all about the set up etc.

I'm chopping up my linearis all the time too, it's so annoying when leaves fail and leave gaps. My linearis is having some sort of fit anyway rn, I guess I'm not watering it enough because leaves are drying up left and right. I've had a challenging start of summer season with my hoyas anyway, I've had to start rerooting several hoyas because of root rot.

Hi Fern! How are you? I too swear by perlite propagating! I used to use ZipLock bags, but now I use roaster chicken containers. My friend in Florida sent me a lot of Hoya stem and root cuttings. Almost everyone rooted this way. I also think the root a lot faster than water or soil propagation. Enjoy! Gerry HPEteacher 😎

So you know if you can wet stick propagate Hoya kerrii? My kerrii is a single stem with six leaves and shot out a tendril about 16” long. It’s so stiff that I can’t bend it to curve to trellis it in any way. It’s so ugly and awkward I just want to chop her but don’t want to waste any of it.

My philodendron keeps doing it and I heard you mention it in a previous video and I usually just lightly grab it as soft as I can and just tug but I feel that there’s a better technique that doesn’t damage the leaf because I’ve had leaf damage before from me touching too hard I believe.
