Wow this video really helped my understanding of clay and modeling it. I am trying to learn some clay modeling, and I am currently having trouble to safely connect two pieces of clay without losing its shape or ruining it XD. I originally used an old toothbrush to score it, and then use a spray bottle to spray a drop/s of water on both the scored sides, attach it, then smooth out the messy sides with the end of the toothbrush. Of course, that didn't work very well. Two things I did wrong: one was I used water instead of this slip (watered clay), which kind of washed down the stickiness intended to attach two parts of clay . Second was the clay I attached was either too wet or dry - mostly too wet. The wanted state of the clay is too be sticky, so leather dry clay achieve this really well. Thank you for the great helpful tips 👍

Great series! I have only ever done wheel throwing, so it's great to be able to learn more about hand building, I feel like all the work I enjoy at galleries are always hand built. Good luck with the channel, looking forward to more parts!

I love this series, it's very clear and well explained, thanks so much. I have a question, though, can I attach a piece ,for example handle, that is fresh and a cup that is leather hard? Thanks again!

Very helpful. I've been working with pottery since 2012/2013. I'm a Fine Artist by nature though. Also, I mix my clay chunks with white distilled vinegar.

hi! maybe u have my answer since u re working with pottery so long. i wonder if it there is a way to adding wet clay to dried clay. i mean for example i worked on a sculpture, and finished working. the clay is partially or completely dried, however, I now want to add new things like one extra nose or some ears and etc. my english is awful, im sorry but hope u get what i mean.

Hey! I really been loving your videos, thank you so much for making these. Could you please tell me how to wash the clay tea cups? Can I wash it with regular dish soap?

It depends on the clay they used and if it's fully vitrified! You should ask the potter you bought them from. If it's vitrified stoneware or porcelain, you can put it in the dishwasher like commercial dishes (though all ceramic will last longer if you hand-wash)
