Miss Phyllis-- to make it easier to peel your potatoes, before you start boiling them score them 1/4 inch deep with a knife in a circle around them like a belt kind of. Then boil like usual. Once they're done, you should be able to kinda pinch or squeeze on either side of the "belt" and the peels slip off for the most part!!! Hope that helps you!!!

I really enjoy watching your videos Your soft spoken voice is very pleasant. and calming and you are very good at explaining things. Thank you for sharing all your wholesome and good recipes with us I love to cook but somehow I make a huge mess when I cook and you really don't make a mess in the kitchen That takes a special talent 👌 I have been binge watching your videos because it's just nice listening to you and hearing your occasional stories from times past. And I don't mind it that your voice isn't loud because a lot of people demonstrating on KZread have music and lots of loud talking or too much stuff going on You have a polite way of speaking and your kindness comes across on your channel I watch your videos to relax and also enjoy your stories from the past It's almost like reading a good book Thank you Phyllis

Since this video is 3 years old, you maybe not see this, but I use the micro for corn still in its husks, I sometimes have to cut the stem down a little for it to fit in my micro but leave all the husks on and micro it for about 3 mins for two ears. It’s so easy to clean off the husks and silk from the ears after it’s done. My sister suggested I use this method about 40 years ago and I still cook it this way, never boil it. Only thing is, it’s very hot, so I usually use a cup towel or paper towels to hold it to clean.

My mother would saute onions and celery first, then add in any flour, then the milk and potatoes. She never blended the potatoes as she didn't like that, so we'd have the potatoes in cubes. If the soup needed more thickening, she mash a few of the potatoes with a fork. I was thinking some crumbled bacon would be good on that soup! Every time I see potato soup on a menu in a restaurant, it's made with chicken broth. I've mistakenly ordered it a few times, and it's just vile that way. If I want chicken soup, I'll have chicken soup. Potato soup is milk and potatoes, no chicken anywhere near it!

I agree with Oh Deer.....reminder to self: get nonfat dry milk. My aunt who was my dad's sister (an old maid) lived in this house before she passed.....I grew up in this house...but she always kept dry milk because she said that no one should ever run out of milk. When she was young she used to milk cows and our family had fresh milk, cream, butter, butter milk and clabber. I love potato soup and I'm with Mr. Bucky.....I like cheese, and bacon....I don't have to have the onions but I could use them too!!! Thanks for the video. I have made potato soup by steaming little tiny diced potatoes to barely done...drain, add flour, butter and milk and salt and pepper and let it come to almost a boil....as you said. I will have to try your version. Either way...made me hungry!!! :)

I love potato soup! When the bag of potatoes is getting old and wrinkled, that's when to make it. That's when the starches and sugars have concentrated. Also, add to it what you want: Onion, Garlic, Celery, Bread, Cheese! This is a soup that fed people for hundreds if not thousands of years! Thank you Phyllis. I know I'm late, but I'm still hungry! :)

I love kitchen sink potato soup. We add baby carrots, corn, onion and cabbage to ours. The baby carrots are pre-cooked before adding. The onions and cabbage are sauteed and added. The corn is just a can of corn or leftover corn added in along with the rest near the end of cooking the soup. Top with cheddar cheese, green onion tops and bacon.. and yum yum yum. The soup is made the same way Miss Phyllis makes hers. One other change we make is rather than adding salt to the soup we sprinkle a little paprika, which has a salty taste without the sodium, over each bowl of soup.

I also love hamburger soup and roasted red bell pepper soup, which may be the best soup I’ve ever had. I make soup year round, after all most of our meals are hot when we eat them, same as soup would be. Since I’m alone, I try to make enough food for several meals rather than having to cook from scratch every day.

Potato soup is great! Sometimes to change it up, add some thyme leaves, or saute fresh garlic with the butter when making the white sauce (or dried garlic/ onion powder or add butter powder or fresh butter!) I know it's rich, but oh so gooood! Thank you Phyllis and I like Mr Bucky's additions too! Cyndi

Mrs. Phyllis, I think your delicious potato soup recipe could be easily made for camping or a prepper standby too. Very inspired and now hungry. With using Idaho potato flakes, ghee/powdered butter, powdered milk like you used, the flour, and whatever extras like freeze dried sausage that people like (I never tried it, yet, but dehydrated hamburger works great in things) and anything else that people want to sprinkle in like seasonings or dehyds like onion, carrot, red bell pepper put by from the garden that someone might have in their preps already. It could be like a potato soup mix and just add boiling water if RV'ing, camping or prepping. You using the powdered milk as a backup got me to thinking. I always try to keep the LDS or Winn- Dixie (best for storing) powdered milk on hand. Potato flakes are handy too I have learned recently. I have been trying to learn to make bread with not so good results and put those two things in along with a new yeast and it was pretty good this most recent try. I saw you baked bread so will look for any videos you have on bread. Thank you!

I don't know anyone who doesn't love potatoes. Your potato soup looked tasty.. I'll take mine like MB likes his.. with a few extra additions.. Roasted garlic, olive oil and rosemary, then a little fresh squeezed lemon, sea salt and pepper.. :)

Going to have to make this hope it tastes like my grandma used to make the only difference is she would cut her potatoes into force or 6 depending on the size of the potato she never made cubes and it was just awesome I loved Grandma's potato soup. Mom would make it occasionally as well
