Then again none of them had any knowledge on how to build a portal gun; which could've solved this whole problem by sending those decoy Rick's and their families to other Universes to live out their lives. In the end humanities natural instinct to want to kill a precieved threat took over them, despite not being 100% human.

So this is in the "replacement dimension" C-131. The dimension that Rick and Morty arrive in Rick potion #9. Since the last few episodes of season 1 - season 6 all take place in C-131, we know this episode takes place there. Thing is... after the Mr.Frundles bit in season 6, the state of the earth and the constant desert background of the world makes sense. Mr.Frundles dried out the planet and died, then life went on.

This really hits home how terrifying immortality would actually be. Imagine not being able to die no matter what. You don't age, nothing can kill you, you outlive everyone you ever cared about and you have to watch the world around you slowly fade while you stay exactly the same. Ultimately you'll be utterly alone, forced to endure until the sun burns out and the planet is consumed. Which would be in a few billion years.

this is my new canon and it fits the show since it doesn't make sense for jerry to suddenly awake during those key moments when its more realistic that a random wild animal would wake him up instead, also thats not even including the fact that the a civilization coherent enough to culturally to crusify a person to use a random ass piece of trash as decorate. lastly, earth LITERALLY does not have enough natural resources for a new primitive civilization (or even an invading space fairing civilization that resorts to primitiveness for w/e reason)

Since we have at least another billion years until the sun burns the Earth crispy, it is actually feasible that other civilizations could arise and find new coal deposits for a second/third industrial revolution. Hell, they'd probably also find abundant supplies of fossilized concrete and plastic left behind by us, which would jump-start their civilization. But even minus the coal issue, one of those civilizations depicted was pre-industrial and wouldn't use coal at all.

Not that it would necessarily be that simple but I imagine that a civilization might vary drastically if they had just used a different fuel source at the beginning to sort of set the tone for future innovation. In Dante's Inferno, the 9th Circle of Hell is for traitors. John Ciardi (translator of the book) "he treacheries of these souls were denials of love (which is God) and of all human warmth." So Jerry got the worst interpretation of his wish - to live forever - because he betrayed his family.

"I just wanna die," and "why can't I die?" sums up the show, how a lot of the characters feel

This is most likely Wooden Jerry's punishment for abandoning his family to be crushed to death in that cave now he's forced to watch event's of the world without any control for eternity

I'm guessing much like there's creatures "guarding" time, there are creatures that take matters into their own hand when something like Frundles gets loose and deal with it. Or maybe Frundles can starve, and as a planet it wasn't able to move anywhere so it died eventually.

I like how he only gets to enjoy immortality for all of 5 seconds

I really feel the scene and I want to underline how the job done by the actor who plays Jerry fits so well with the context... you can really feel the sense of confusion and pain of Wooden Jerry when he understands his eternal damned fate.

I love how Wooden Jerry speaks like a half-life character.

Honestly the punishment of being forced to live forever is greatly reduced when he is seemingly unconscious for basically the entire time. The fact that he closes his eyes as if falling asleep, then opens them again and is confused about his surroundings and what has happened in the meantime, strongly implies he’s waking up for like a few seconds/minutes spaced out between eons of time spent completely unconscious.

Damn that must suck living a life that never ends and you have to sit through all the pain and suffering of everything around you

Compared to physical dismemberment, having your torso hollowed out for use by animals, and being lit on fire? Crucifixion is bush league by comparison.

The fact that this whole thing basically only ties into the episode because of an off-handed Highlander reference is the best part.
