My name is Hammo and I stream on Twitch! I play a variety of "map games" and strategy games, but my favourite game by far is Hearts of Iron IV.
I love this game and it's complexity, strategy and historical focus, but these are also reasons people can find it hard to get into Hoi4. The endless spreadsheets, statistics, buffs and debuffs can be overwhelming without someone to show you the ropes, which is where this channel comes in!
I will be creating and posting beginners guides, tutorials, walkthroughs, tips and tricks videos, just about everything I can to get you playing and enjoying Hearts of Iron IV as much as I do!
Creators that are inspirations to me include ISorrowproductions, Feedback Gaming, TommyKay, Bitt3rSteel, Alex the Rambler, Laith - TheSocial Streamers and Modest Pelican.

Before any DLC it would be prudent to have many focus trees at least updated to the latest version of the game. For example german focus tree still has obsolete choices with aircraft that dont work with the aircarft designer. This is ridicilous that it wasnt corrected already at the same time with the update. I agree, it would be nice to have more DLC and new choices with many countries, but at least they should keep up with the updates.

@@hammotimee In my opinion they should just repair this kind of oversights first, germany or britain dont necessarily need completely "new" content as much as South America. Shouldnt take much work to just go trough and repair the focus tree problems.

Everyone should read this! As a Brazilian and a historiy enjoyer I can say for sure that is a LOT of room for developing South American countries in HOI4, specially Brazil. In the 30's the brazilian leader, Getulio Vargas, officially assumed a "Bargain Diplomacy" improving relations with both germany and USA, not only searching for investments but for close political and historical ties. Everyone knows about the influence of the US in latin america so this influence since the 1800's was the main reason for algnment, but there is a lot of ties with germany too. before the war, there was an effort to close ties between the two countries, u-boats and german submarines used to refuel in the port of Santos. There is also a huge german colony in brazil (arround 250k came, specially in the south region) and nowadays are arround 5 million german speakers in this region. This colony (unfortunately) had a sizable influence in brazilian politics, and in the 30's the nazi party of brazil (yes, nazi party) was the biggest outside germany, reaching 3k direct members and 89k afiliated. The party was banned when brazil declared war. Also, the italian community in brazil is HUGE, im came from a brazilian-italian family and in the 30's the adderence to fascism was very considerable also with a huge movment (integralism). This is also applied to the japanese community, thousands came to brazil and nowadays brazil has the biggest japanese community outside japan, and there is a very intresting history about a japanese colony in the countrisde of são paulo that rebelled and refuse do believe that japan had surrended. So there is A LOT of background to explore, specially in alternate history scenarios.

I have the best idea for a dlc. It would give a focus tree to Ireland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Austria, as well as a new path for Germany. As Ireland you can go down the facist path where you can form the Celtic union, gaining cores on Scotland, Whales, Cornwall, and Brittany. Or you can go democratic and get Northern Ireland in exchange for joining the allies. As Belgium you can go democratic and form the EU, and through decisions you can annex France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands without going to war. Or you can go facist and core the Congo as well as some of Belgium’s goofy colonial ambitions like Texas and India. As Austria you can go democratic and buy the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia and South Tyrol from Italy. You can go non alined and form the Austrian-Empire. Or you can go facist and form the Holy Roman Empire. As Luxembourg you can partake in border clashes with Belgium, France, and Germany. And invite foreigners into your country to increase your population. As Germany you can now go communist and attempt to create your own communist European Union by invading neighboring countries.

HT - thanks for raising this - hope PDX gets to see it. My thoughts are a bit wider than your exact question, but anyway: 1. Keep fixing up old trees for free and ongoing eg GER and ENG. This has been part done for RAJ and CAN. 2 You sold me on something S America. 3. I would play Austria / Siam. 4. The game has many fun features that I never/rarely use because they are broken/too late/too expensive/too weak - please buff/fix: eg licence production, armoured cars, camelry, rockets, air mines, even mech-amtrac, seaplanes etc. Cheers MMM

Nah man I’m so happy you talked about this. I hate when history nerds leave out the contributions that non European nations had to the war. At least in America we literally don’t even mention the state that China and Japan was left in after the war. I HAD TO ASK MYSELF, what happened to Japan after WW2 but Germany got all the love. As for actual DLC, I basically agree with everything you said. They also need to rework some trees to make them faster since I hate 70 day focuses and need to have some balances of power. Also it would be cool to get some possible alt history stuff just in general. Like what if the Scots had their full independence, what if the Nazi party never took over in Germany and it was a democratic nation, what if White Russia won the civil war, and my personal favorite what if the Confederates won the American Civil war. When I play RT56, I always fracture America by making the confederates win just because it nerfs the USA jsut enough, and provides for plenty to do in the US. Plus kicking Confederate ass as FDR or the Socialists feel great.

Some things i think would be fun in for some focuses. Argentina with a falkland war focus, brazil chile argentina with a broad naval arms race focus that lets them buy battleships and battleship blueprints(permanently), siam, should actually join the war war like in real life, ireland gets a celtic union focus that lets them core scotland wales Cornwall and Brittany, bhutan needs a thunder dragon empire focus that lets them core all of the Himalayas.

Hammo, I think the problem is, if they change to much for other countries that participated in WWII, it throws off the balance of power when playing historical. In PARADOX'S defense, you start adding civ/military factories to participants in WWII, improve focus tree's to much, the whole concept of historical goes down the tubes as you greatly increase the power of one side, or the other. Now a DLC designed 100% for NON-HISTORICAL play that includes many of these suggestions is probably doable; but of course, it would almost certainly be a stand alone game. You could then change the balance of power in any fashion you so desire. SUGGESTION-------->A DLC where you 1st must take over your continent, (obviously broken into equal parts of landmass) then you can war on the other continents. That would force use of all aspects of the game, from navy, to special forces, including transport planes, etc. You could use any means at your disposal to do this, from spies on down, and since the games would last a lot longer and it was a stand alone game, you extend how long it takes to get tech by 50 to 75%. In other words, the 38 medium tank would take until 40 in research days, etc.

@@hammotimee Focus trees are a bottleneck to emergent gameplay. For instance we’re probably never going to get an overhaul to the political system in HOI4 because all the politics is handled by the focus trees. Now instead of having one universal dynamic set of rules that apply to all nations every nation needs to be programmed with a focus tree individually. When you play a focus tree you know exactly what’s going to happen from the beginning it doesn’t respond organically to changes in the world. Once you have played a tree there’s not a lot of value in going back to it. Edit: I repeated myself

I'm not a big fan of reworking focus trees for all these minor nations. Aside from a few formable nations you never really play on the big stage due to how limited their industries are. You're stuck with just a couple of divisions with guns, artillery, and support equipment... and maybe you can pull off some CAS or bathtubs with the vast majority of HOI4 content thrown out the window. What I'd like to see is a way to play smaller localized campaigns. Like North Africa where the Aussies or Free French are major players. Or a Balkans campaign where Greece, Bulgaria, Hungary and Yugoslavia (and subfactions) all battle it out on the the same level as Italy, UK, and Germany. But I guess this completely goes against Paradox's whole Grand Strategy niche and would require all new maps in addition to the world map. Perhaps in Hearts of Iron 5...

  • @hammotimee

I love the idea of smaller campaigns! Maybe they could do "scenarios" or something?? I disagree about reworking minor nations, for me it gets to a point where there's only so many times you can play a Germany world conquest haha the minor nations pose a fun challenge to grow them to the point of competing on the global stage!
