Even if they give you some glasses that they say will protect you, you should never take a chance then .

I live in a college town. We saw a small snippet of the annular eclipse several months ago. They knew the 4/8 eclipse would be coming up. Even though we weren't in the path of totality this year, we would be able to see something. I took two pairs of eclipse glasses home with me, especially for 4/8. After all the stories I'm hearing about bad glasses I'm scared to order them online or to accept them from random people now. My mom and I sat outside in her driveway and watched it. We had about a 95% totality. A couple of her neighbors offered us glasses before they realized we had some already, but in retrospect, I'm glad we didn't accept them since we don't know where they got them from. This is scary. Be safe, everyone.

🌕🌓🌒🌑🌘🌗🌕 Since I was a KID in the 90s, they told me to not watch an eclipse. I set my mind to only watch it afterwards on TV or other people's photos to this day. I don't care enough to f**k myself up for a 1 min appearance, even if I have special sunglasses🕶😎🕶

Same, when I came inside, I noticed my vision was blurry and straight things weren’t straight. After like two days now, my vision is improving but not normal. My eyes kinda have almost a sunburn sensation. Think about a magnifying glass and how it burns in a point. 20sec looking into the sun, you’d be likely to get that blind dot in your vision. The fact that we glanced for little amounts, I don’t think we burnt holes in the retinas. More likely inflammation from slight uv cookin lol. The retinas don’t have pain receptors. It’s likelier the corneas are injured, but regenerate about every 48hrs. If any inflammation in the retina is present, 4-6 weeks you’ll notice that inflammation went down and your vision won’t feel so weird. The eye pain should resolve sooner as it’s likely more brought upon by the cornea. Eye damage is accumulative. So take this as a freebie and don’t add more damage like welding unprotected, or hours in water without sunglasses for years. You could end up with cataracts in your later years. To summarize this, if your vision is improving over time instead of getting worse, don’t worry too much. With it being dark out, the body didn’t shrink the pupil, so the suns UV entered your eye more than usual. A couple less than a second glances are gonna effect your eyes more than usual. But the odds of any life altering damage isn’t likely. 90% of peoples vision go back to normal with no long term effects. Hope this helps 😎☀️
