This is it folks! My final video for 2020! I hope you enjoy seeing the difference between a cheap upscaler against the OSSC! A few episode notes - - Again as mentioned in the video, the Portta device does not work with my Elgato HD60s Plus so, I had to use my older Elgato Game Capture HD to get the footage - The RAD2x & retrotink2x & ODV upscalers do not display native 480p resolutions so, games that support that will not display on those upscalers - If you have any questions, feel free to ask! (UPDATE! The Portta Component To HDMI upscaler does work with the Elgato HD60s Plus! You just need a HDMI splitter, basically what you'd use to get PS3 HDMI captures! All future videos featuring the Portta will have this issue corrected!)

Just got the Portta today and connected it to my PS2 but all I am getting is a distorted picture. Tried 16:9 and 4:3 respectively on Both my TV and PS2 And it's still not working. what am I doing wrong?

@@Highznberg Unfortunately I've never had that issue with my unit so I have no idea what is wrong, it could be the PS2 is set to RGB & not component, it could be the TV is not liking it & you might need a HDMI splitter which I needed for capture on my Elgato HD60S Plus, it could be anything I'm afraid:/

@@TheAffroShowGameplay What size and grade H DMI cable are you using because I switched my cable from the one that I was using on my xbox 1 which is a rather thin cable to an extra 1 I had that's pretty thick but it's about 30' long. I was able to get a picture . Could it be I need a high end 6' HDMI cord in order to make this work?

@@Highznberg I'm using a standard HDMI lead & it'll work with even the cheapest of component cables so, I don't think the cables are the problem :o

Despite how many doubts I have over the Portta Upscaler, I ordered one and it should arrive soon. In my opinion, the Portta is still a great option for those who intend to play Wii/PS2 games over HDMI. I currently have a Wii and one of those cheap Wii2HDMI dongles and it’s really bad, there is an extreme amount of noise coming from the signal. Currently don’t have the money for a Tink or OSSC but I think this is a great starting point for those who just want to play or capture their old consoles on the cheap. It’s far from perfect but anything is better than the crappy Wii2HDMI or PS2 to HDMI dongles lol. That being said, this video was very well made and definitely got it’s points across. Definitely leaving a sub and like 😊

That's a fair point & while I would upgrade later, this device does support 480p & higher resolutions so if you want to play those games in 480p, it will work as I showed in my video ^^ I may make an updated version of this since I figured out how to make this device work with the Elgato HD60s +! So, how did you do with the portta converter?

I put this video on my TV to see how it would look and tbh, all except for the PSP parts the Porta actually looked better. I guess it’s a good thing as it means the cheaper option is attractive in more ways than just the price.

It is a very good product & it's now more affordable:)

Great video. The OSSC is obviously more accurate and therefore better, but I feel for people who aren't enthusiasts or don't have the money, the Portta is a fantastic option. It's certainly better than those crappy HDMI converter monstrosities. Plus I'm sure messing about with your picture settings will get rid of the sharpening and saturated colours the Portta suffers from. At any rate, I think the vast majority of people just want a "good enough" method of playing some old favourites. In that sense a sub £20 converter does a great job. I recently upgraded my old 4K TV with a top of the range OLED which sadly lacks component output. The Portta will do just fine for some retro gaming.

If you can stretch your budget to £50 or so, the RAD2X, ODV or Retrotink line offer better quality than the Portta so keep those in mind before going with the Portta :)

@@TheAffroShowGameplay Retrotink and Rad2x are also in premium territory unfortunately with both costing upto £100 and not available most places. The ODV is around £50 but it can't handle a 60hz image according to reviewers. The colours get messed up and since my PS2 will mostly play NTSC versions of games it won't be ideal.

@@Shaved_Ape That's actually unture about the 60hz as I have a review of Tekken 4 playing at PAL 60hz & it played just fine :) I also tried it with other games at 60hz, works just fine :) Not sure where that comes from but it definitely takes 60hz :)

@@TheAffroShowGameplay Ah okay, that's weird. I read a few reviews about GameCube games having problems when running in PAL 60hz. But I'm only going to be using it for PS2 games so if they work fine I might have a look at at the ODV if it's a step up from the Portta.

Yeah I heard about the GameCube having problems but sadly I don't own one so I can't confirm anything there :o PS2, yes my first few videos of season 4 were all using the ODV & it definitely works with 60hz, maybe the PS2 system configuration was set to RGB instead of Component, that's something people don't seem to know about or forget to change xD

Can hear the difference between the ossc and the portta for the ps2 there were some sound issues which was a bit disoriented on street fighter alpha, but looking at the gameplay though they both look good and awesome but ossc gives that vibrant flow graphics without lag. I may need to look into those two if I want to record gameplay for the ps2 and Xbox, thank you my good sir for the awesome comparison!!

If you look closer at the two, you'll see the Portta has many, many issues with the images & there's artifacts everywhere but I guess for what it is its not the worst thing ever xD Honestly you are better off looking at the other solutions I recommended, those are far better :) Thank you for the comment!

@@TheAffroShowGameplay oh yep I’ve looked at rad2x and I’m going to get that one, beats the hyperlink since that company have issues with stuff over heating within an hour and fizzy the audio out.

I can see thee Portta being a great choice if you're strapped for cash though. Like I used a Blue Snowball mic for a while before I eventually upgraded to a Blue Yeti X. Think about it being the first decent upscaler for a retro game lover. And like you said, someone might want to play a game the OSSC deals poorly with but the Portta can do. Btw, what was the first upscaler you owned?

Problem is as I said at the end of the video there's much better alternatives that don't cost that much more than the Portta & will look much better xD Maybe 10 or even 5 years ago I'd agree xD The Blue Snowball was a decent mic, I had one for two years myself :) Mine was a terrible composite to HDMI one xD

If you ever do a follow up, can you play them on s PS3 for comparison? What I used to do fr the longest time.

@@Larry No problem! I have a demo of it but I do recall seeing it at a retro shop I visit frequently! Maybe I'll pick it up next time? I believe Dead Or Alive also uses the hi res mode as does Wipeout 3 although I'm not sure xD Tobal no 2 also does but I need a modded system as that was a japan only game :) The PSP's 480p progressive output mode actually makes these games look pretty good!

I was looking for a Component to HDMI converter for my old Wii, as my new 4K LG TV does not have a component input, and the cheapo Wii2HDMI thing I bought looked rather terrible when it came to sharpness and colors... I can't afford OSSC so Portta seems like a good option(Though I went for the non-upscaler version, and hope my TV will do at least semi-decent job making stuff look decent XD), ordered it from US Amazon, since only Component to HDMI converters/upscalers available in Poland seem to be no-names which probably work about as well as Wii2HDMI...

The Portta will be much, much better than the Wii2HDMI which is composite quality & terrible composite quality at that :) I will say you may want to look at the retrotink 2x line as that will give you excellent quality similar to the OSSC's 2x modes for a faction of the price :)

One question, does the portta have a button to change the image revolution? I have seen two versions, the normal version and another with the possibility of scaling the image PD: Amazing video!!

Hi ^^ Nice video :3 I have some a question: I want to use this device to do some streaming with my PS2, though I saw that the PS2 footage in the Portta is 30fps instead of 50FPS (PAL) or 60FPS (NTSC). Is something related to the Portta and it cannot be fixed?

As stated in the video itself at the beginning, I said that my capture didn't work with it (There's an updated video with the Portta with the correct frame rates) so my older capture device had to be used and restricted frame rates to 30fps :) The Portta forces everything to 60Hz & again if you watch my cheap upscalers vs ossc video, you will see the Portta with the correct frame rates :)

I picked up one of these recently and found it to be decent for the price, personally. The lack of 480P is a deal breaker for me regarding the Rad2X/ODV Upscalers (ODV upscalers are hard to come by in Canada aswell), and right now I can't afford a RetroTink 2X Multiformat, so this was the next best choice. I DO plan to upgrade to the MultiFormat once I'm able to get my hands on one however. The Portta ain't anything spectacular, but it does the one thing I wanted it to do; *Make 60FPS recording on PS2 far easier.* I would infinitely use it over those cheap PS2 to HDMI adapters, and would definitely stick to using it over those Pound/Hyperkin/LevelHike cables.

I completely agree with you :) Here in the UK its much easier to get most of these products but yes the lack of 480p on those made me switch to the OSSC but a lot of people don't even know 480p existed on 6th gen consoles lol xD Oh yes I have & I hated it with a passion so I guess this is not the worst thing ever xD

@@ThunderTHR it's a £120 - £140 & I recently spent twice that on a 3DO & games xD But yeah once you get it, it is amazing albeit not flawless :p I might check out the other cheap upscalers now that I can get them working with the Elgato HD60 S Plus xD

@@Ali.Abdulla There's no difference between the two cables other than slightly more noise & slightly more contrast on RGB :) I always say go with whatever is easiest for your setup :) What you mentioned will look good but please, bear in mind no retrotink product supports 480p native so if you want that, OSSC all day long :)

i use an official nintendo component cable with the portta and cant get rid of weird moving faint diagonal lines over my screen. The color is great but there seems to be some kind of interference that nobody yet over the last couple of months could help me resolve. ): my portta seems to be quite old as it doesnt even have a button on it for anything, so could it be the portta itself?

Unfortunately the Portta is just not designed for gaming really & it's not the best choice if you want great video output. If you want better results, a retrotink 2x is way better although you do lose 480p support if that's important. Tbe RAD2X line of cables is cheaper & will look the same but again no 480p support. The OSSC is amazing but it's a bit more expensive & it can be picky with some resolutions & tvs. As for the portta I think that's the best you are going to get, my Saturn component cables on it looks terrible so it's just not a long term solution.

For 288p and 480p content, I like the OSSC. For 576i content, I'd pick a cheap scaler over the OSSC any day of the week. If I had to use the OSSC for such content, I'd use the passthrough option. Anyone who recommends linedoublers for interlaced content should have their hands chopped off. Mind you, in my set up, the only way I was able to get the OSSC to work was by feeding it into the HDMI input on my old SCART to HDMI to normalize the signal. Otherwise, my TV didn't support most of its output options.

I agree with the 288p & basically any progressive modes on the OSSC, its wonderful with those resolutions :) I know interlaced content is a pain! Either passthrough albeit with the potential for added lag or Bob-Deinterlacing with that shake which again I personally have gotten used to but I know not everyone will like it & I get that :) My setup thankfully has my computer as the input & OBS as the recorder which works with every OSSC mode except the 3x mode in the 480i/576i section! I never got that to work :o My TV's HDMI port itself only works with 2x so that stinks :p

​@@TheAffroShowGameplay Personally, I never understood the obsession most retro gamers seem to have with lag. I mean, if a few frames of lag breaks the experience I've no idea how they'll be able to play PS4 or Xbox One games. I will say though, there is only one case in which I think bob-deinterlaing has advantages over normal deinterlacing. The PS2 has some rereleases of Sega games that were rendered in 288p but converted to 576i. With cheap scalers or even the Framemeister, this can lead to catastrophic combing artifacts. But the OSSC surprisingly restores the original intended look. Yes, I understand PC monitors tend to be more friendly towards the OSSC's crazy outputs. Still, they should warn you about potential compatibility issues on the box. I imagine most would gravitate towards cheap converters simply because their television doesn't support resolutions coming off the OSSC or RetroTINK products and the Framemeister is too cost prohibitive. Still, for the price, the cheap ones still have their benefits. I still use my old SCART to HDMI for games that switch resolutions and as I said above normalizing the OSSC's output.

@@WhiteJarrah To be honest I only mention lag because some people experience it in their setups, I personally have never had this lag some may or do experience :p Ah amazing how different upscalers work with retro content right? I love the OSSC :) Agreed, I actually got lucky because I didn't realise this until later! I guess they assume most people buying the product won't be an average Joe or something:p The Portta is a decent device for that reason & the retrotink/ODV line but, do not get the other Portta devices! I have an S-Video version of the one shown in this video and its a huge disappointment:o

@@TheAffroShowGameplay Gah... I bought that Portta S-video product a few years ago for my N64 and promptly returned it. The N64 was always a bitch to get descent quality out of, but the Portta HDMI actually made S-video look worse than composite. I bought a Lenkeng S-video to HDMI that worked decently with PS1, Saturn and SNES S-video content, but the N64's constant frame drops caused catastrophic combing: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lYV917WkYJive5c.html For S-video on a budget, I'd say go with the RetroTINK 2X --- again, if you have a TV or secondary scaler that supports its output. Speaking of which, I discovered a few years ago that the RetroTINK 2X's S-video input does a seamless handling of resolution switches. I do like S-Video though, I definitely need the retrotink :o Yeah 240p usually can't be seen by component hence it needs upscaling of some kind :o

Just type in Portta Component To HDMI on Amazon & it will be there:) It will work with Wii as long as you use Component cables :) I sadly don't own Wii unfortunately :/

Hey, have you tested this on a 4k display? I know that the resolution and signal would be either 1080p or 720p but I want to know how is the quality on a 4k display, bad or at least negligible.

Yes, everything I test is all done on a 4K Samsung display that's 40 inches:) It looks very good and the quality holds up nicely, at least to me :)

Hey I just bought the Portta and connected it to my Xbox original but the image appears black and white. I'm using the original plug that came with the Xbox that has the yellow white and red av wires and plugged that directly into the Portta then into my computer monitor with an hdmi. Any help I would appreciate it. Anxious to finally relive a memory of mine and play Mortal Kombat Deception!

It's likely that either the yellow wire is in the wrong place, the portta doesn't support composite video/colours or your monitor has something to do with the colours not being present :o I would suggest trying to use a HDMI splitter & if this does not work, try a normal tv just to rule out the composite cable. If the cable works this way, my only suggestion would be either to get an XBOX to HDMI solution that doesn't include using the Portta (Ebay has a few from what I've seen), buying a component cable, (I brought a good one on Ebay for £30 pounds & the results of it against RGB Scart can be seen in a newer upload on this channel) or to try a different upscaler like the Retrotink 2x or Retro Scaler 2x which support component/composite & function better than the Portta :)

Hi it seems that if i connect my original Xbox with component cables (that are tested) i have noticeable diagonal lines. Is this because it’s a cheap device or do i happen to have a faulty product?

A similar event happens when you use component cables for the Sega Saturn so it's likely the Portta being a cheap device unfortunately:o

I'm using the porrta, works fine but every now and then the screen will flicker, any way to fix this?

Because I'm not sure of the origin or the tv/monitor you use, I do recommend a HDMI splitter as that might correct or fix the signal:)

I also own that very same device and it too doesn't work for me: All it does is flicker constantly on my monitor so, in other words don't use it! It is a joke and a terrible product!

What would be best solution for component to hdmi, but with 50hz or pal output also, for ps2 games I'm asking, on 4ktv? My both tv-s (old hdtv and newer 4ktv) are pal. They support 60hz input signal, and it's smooth, but 50hz input signal is life-likely smooth on them, magically flawless, especially in (ps2) games, they are built for it. On my older hdtv, it's stunning quality with just using component cables dirrectly, but on newer 4ktv I use some cheap converter from component to hdmi, and is not very good quality, it's passable, but... What would you suggest to me, in 2 ways: - what would be cheap but solid solution, - and what would be quality solution? Thanks in advance!

For you mate use a retrotink 2x or the ODV as they have component, support 50hz & look great for the price :) If you wanted HDMI only, RAD2X cables are also a soild choice & quite cheap too :)

Hello basically it is up to you :) The PS2 will play all PS1 games via Component & both will upscale the picture to be viewable on a 4K Display (I have one too :)) The quality of the OSSC will allow for a better picture & you can use RGB Scart cables too which is a great aspect of the device :)

It would mean a lot to me! I just wanna thank you in advance, you deserve every like and sub! But sadly it's a little bit more complicated for me. Unfortunately most OSSC's/Upscalers and the preferably needed cables, as the HD Retrovision Component Cable and the HDMI mCable, are out of stock in my region. Either they are from the UK or the US. Since I live in Germany it's a bit of a problem for me testing those products in order to be satisfied because of the taxes and return policies. Therefore I am only willing to buy an OSSC if I have the certainty that it will work properly, with its full potential, with any PS1 and PS2 title on my Playstation 2 Slim console (primarily with YuGiOh Forbidden Memories PS1) on my LG 4K TV via HDMI. One year ago I already was into that topic and because I was low on budget I decided to go for a plug and play solution, the Kaico PS2 to HDMI converter. The biggest dissapointment about it was and still is, that it doesn't display my PS1 games via my Playstation 2 on my 4K LG TV via HDMI, eventhough Kaico says it can, since it should support all input resolutions beneath 480p. It has a YPbPr and a RGB mode, but none of them ever worked for my PS1 games. My TV always says that there is no signal. I kept the adapter nonetheless, because it did it's job for the PS2 games and I had the alternative to play my PS1 games on the PS3. But maybe you have a fix for that problem? Maybe the solution lies in the television setting? Nevertheless I got a higher budget these days and I'm willing to get my hands on an OSSC to get the best out of my PS1 and PS2 games on my Playstation 2 Slim. BUT, I am overwhelmed with the possible options and all the possible combinations of hardware and cables. If an OSSC, which one? Are there any differences? Is the one from Kaico better than others? With all that being said, I want to ask in conclusion, if a Portta or an OSSC or a RetroTink even can handle any resolution of any PS1 and PS2 game on my Playstation 2 Slim, so I have the certainty that it can be correctly displayed on my TV and when yes, which one of these do you prefer for my needs? And which cables do you recommend. Is a HD Retrovision Component Cable or a HDMI mCable really the non plus ultra to get the full potential (because I fairly have to say that I would never buy the mCable from Marseille for about 100€ when an OSSC already ranges about 120€, that would just break the bank for me)? Wouldn't it be a bit off combining those high pricy cables with a 22€ Portta? Would a standard HDMI cable on an OSSC be a big bottleneck? Maybe you got some insider information and know some shops in the EU which still have some in stock? Thank you very much for reading and taking the time, much love

I'll make it simple for you sir, I used to have the exact problem & that's because unfortunately most people get the specs wrong xD PS1 games WILL display on PS2 but, component for some reason needs upscaling as the 240p/288p native resolution of PS1 games cannot be seen without some sort of upscaling (RGB Scart doesn't seem to have this issue though). The OSSC & the Portta both have the ability to do this, the OSSC can go from a 2x scale (240p to 480p or 288p to 576p) all the way up to 1200p or 1080p using it's line 5x mode :) The PS2 has 480p support in some games & both upscalers can take advantage of this using component or RGB scart cables :) It can be upped to 960p if you wished on the OSSC ^^ Also everything I make using the OSSC is displayed on my 4K TV & it will display all games that support RGB Scart or Component cables ^^ There's more videos on this channel showing this, including an updated version of this video & many others that show me playing real PS1 games using both component & RGB Scart cables :) Long story short, both upscalers WILL show PS1 content but, the Portta might also need a HDMI splitter as mine did not function without it (it refused to display a picture but your millage may very). Hope this helped! Also FYI unfortunately I'm based in the UK so I have no knowledge on European stock & normal HDMI cables work fine with both :) Just remember the OSSC will process everything properly, the Portta hates 50hz but it will work & the cost of the OSSC has gone down since this video, they can be found for under £100 & considering you you can do more with it, it's well worth it, as you'll see from my captures, especially in my updated version of this video :)

@@TheAffroShowGameplay Thank you so much for your help and that you took your time, I hope you help some more people with this comment section than just me :) So as a conclusion you can say, that both Portta and OSSC's have the highest possible compatibility and can work with any resolution coming from PS1 and PS2 games, but if you have the money and want the highest possible quality and compatibility go for an OSSC, but if you're low on budget and only care for highest possible compatibility and not for quality go for the Portta? Just a thought coming out of a logical conclusion... since my TV shows no output with PS1 games running on 240p and 288p resolution but it does with my PS2 games running on (probably) 480p/i and 576p/i, I assume that my Kaico Adapter is just passing through the signal and converting it into a HDMI output and not upscaling it. Therefore I assume that my TV is unable to display resolutions beneath those 480p/i, which would explain why it shows no signal with my PS1 games? Is my thought correct or am I overthinking? Wouldn't that mean for me that I atleast have to 2x the PS1 resolution to 480p or 576p in order to display it on my TV? Since the Portta has a 2x mode and the OSSC up to 5x both would work for me... I know, its probably exactly what you explained here in terms of compatibility, but I just had to make up this mind experiment in order to fully understand it ^^ Alright, one final question I need to ask is if you have any recommendation for an OSSC or does it not metter which one I take? You are correct with what you said although the OSSC has better compatibility as it will process 50hz & above correctly & has SCART & VGA inputs in addition to Component ^^ Also the Portta just upscales straight to 1080p the OSSC has line scaling from passthrough to 5x for 288p/576p resolutions :) Both will work for your use case but I always advise other alternatives like the retrotink 2x line or the RAD2X line which I would strongly look into before you pick :) Any OSSC is fine as long as it is version 1.6 or above :)

hi man! i love your contet! is super informative and pro! ok one question i have a problem my pc monitor display OUT OF RANGE when i use my ps2 fat with the ps2 to hdmi black adapter but it works fine on the living room tv. i have found out about the interlaced signal problem. so i understand that if i buy the Portta upscaler or the ODV converter you talk about by the end of the video i can indeed use my ps2 with component cables and then converter > hdmi cable to my pc monitor and the image will display because it will be now at 60hz 1080p right? or however it works using the line doublers option on the ODV. i can find the ODV for 40 euros almost the same price as the Portta component upscaler on amazon which is 35 euros. sure i buy the ODV ? could you advise. ? i know OSSC is best but i prefer not to spend that much money, ive seen OSSC cheaper on aliexpress, are those reliable?

The ODV is probably your best best as it looks great & will upscale to 480p which will work on the majority of HDTV's :) The Portta is a decent choice but if you are wanting to play PS2 games in native 480p, the Portta will do that & look decent:) The OSSC as you noted is the best & although I don't use Aliexpress I've heard good things buying an OSSC from there :) I have more videos on the Portta & the ODV (past videos) if you want to see them in action :)

OSSC is tempting in aliexpress becaue you can find it for around 80 euros but i thing it is maybe pushing it becaue my only "retro" console is the PS2. thank you very much for your help again. greetings form Spain!

It's so strange...I've tried gettin 240p signal on 2 of my portta converters, all I get is a black screen. I does not seem to be 240p compatible.

Try a HDMI Splitter I had to use that to fix the issue you currently have with the portta, I had a black screen until I used one :)

Yeah I had a similar experience using component cables with the Saturn, it only seems to work ok with the PS2 for some reason:o

That sucks that it doesn’t record with the Elgato HD 60 S… cuz that’s all I got.

Actually it does, I made an updated version where I got it to work & you need an HDMI splitter for the HD60S so it can see the signal :)

Yes the OSSC is a great choice, especially if you enable 480p on the Wii :) If your display/tv supports it, you can line double the resolution from 480p to 960p :)

The OSSC definitely has component & RGB Scart support I own one :) You might have noticed it's missing the sound ports, you'll need a cheap 3.5 mm dongle with red & white sound channels to get sound & this plugs into a port just off to the side :) Also make sure you get a model that says 1.6 or above!

My 4K TV also has no analog inputs so I know the feeling :o It's all depending on your needs, I think the Portta would be a decent choice since it's easy to use & will look decent for PS2 content:)

@@caikeck It all depends on what resolutions you choose but, be aware the OSSC may not play nice with TV's beyond it's 2x mode or 1080i passthrough so, I recommend hooking this through a capture device into your PC to get the benefits you see in my videos:) If not, a good alternative would be the retrotink line of products or the RAD2X line for older consoles:)

For the PS2 slim which is best for games in general, RetroTINK 2X, Portta, Mcbazel ODV?

The PS2 slim is the same as any PS2 so it just depends on what you want:) Do you want to play PS2 games at 480p? The Portta is the way to go if you can't get the OSSC If not & you are playing your games just in default resolution like 480i or 576i, both the Retrotink & ODV are fantastic choices, it just depends on which one is easier & cheaper for you :)

With Retrotink or ODV if they have the resolution of 576i on a 4K TV is it better seen? I have a component cable with gold plated plugs, thick and sturdy wires, it is not from the PS2, is it good for the console? Sorry for english

@@kigmaster It won't change the resolution outside its upscale to 1080p, some PS2 games support 480p & the Portta will allow to you to play those games in that resolution:) Soul Calibur II is an obvious example :) The retrotink & ODV will either work in passthrough or you can line double the resolution to 576p or 480p for better compatibility with HDTV's :) The TV will do the rest :) The component cables do not need to be Sony official but, a decent pair of component cables, like the Joytech PS3 Component Cables I used in this video will give you good results & aren't expensive either :) Hope this helps :)

@@kigmaster It all depends on what games you intend to play. You need to understand that all three will improve the PS2 image to some degree :) The retrotink & ODV are the best if you are playing PS2 games at 480i or 576i but, if you wanted to play the games with native 480p support for the PS2 that support it, the Portta is the only one that can do this. If this doesn't interest you, go for the retrotink or the ODV, they are simular in quality & functionally so pick the one that's cheaper or more accessible to you. I record everything off a 4K TV my self & I once owned an ODV so I can tell you it'll look good :) The retrotink, OSSC & ODV can make 240p/288p or 480i/576i resolutions via line multiplaying double their size or in the case of interlaced content, deinterlaced so 240p/288p becomes 480p/576p or 480i/576i becomes the same. You have a switch that you can toggle to enable/disable the effect :) It just makes the image easier to process for HDMI televisions. Ultimately I can't tell you which to get, all I can do is present the facts, answer any questions that I can & hope you can make the right choice :) Hope this clears things up :)

You mean how do I get it to display? Did you check the PS2 system configuration to make sure it's set to 'component' first?

Esta comparativa es interesante, en imágenes progresivas como 240p y 480p el OSSC es infinitamente superior al Portta pero en imágenes entrelazadas como los 480i de ps2 el desentrelazador del OSSC es horrible, es lo peor que he visto en mi vida, hay mucho nerviosismo en la imagen, ruido y desenfoque, para ps2 en mi opinion es mejor dejar pasar la imagen y que el tv la desentrelace ya que lo hara mucho mejor que el OSSC.

Hello there, just letting you know I only speak English here but, yes for any progressive scan image, the OSSC especially when using the line multipler modes looks fantastic:) The OSSC is not as good with interlaced content & yes the Bob deinterlacing is not for everyone but it does not look that bad when you get used to it :) I'll admit this is a very old video & I have since used passthrough mode with my OBS software to deinterlace the picture instead:)

The price difference is absolutely worth it but, please remember this is old, you can now find the OSSC at between £65 to £80 these days :)

Oh believe me, the difference is real between the two (It might be hard to spot at first & please watch on the biggest screen you can, a mobile phone screen will hide most of the differences)

Well its your opinion & that's why I make videos like this so you know what to expect from different upscalers :) Remember I use the OSSC for a reason not the Portta, but if people want to use that for whatever reason, that's their decision to make:) If you don't like it, just don't buy it xD
