    Must be nice utilizing the long shank burs! I've used the big Makita grinder for 20 plus years and bent soooooooo many long shanks, and I've cut them down to 4" or 5". I'm definitely considering new equipment. Just thinking back to how many manifolds I could've done so much more work to with full length long shank burs 🤦‍♂️

  • @headgames

    @headgames

    Yeah I hate that big Makita. I made an L out of one of our burrs as soon as I turned it on. I threw it under the bench and never went back. You would love the smaller Makita. If you do a lot of manifold porting you might get some kick back in tight areas, and there is many area's where your not supporting the burr, I would suggest to buy 2. You will break the plastic bearing inside the grinder. Other than that, it really is a game changer and so easy to hold all day. And you can spin it full blast with a 3/4 burr 6" long with no problem.

    Head games can you explain the pros and cons of hand porting compared to a cnc port job or a combination? What and why would I choose one experienced porting company over another? Also if you can do a video of which head components are better than another. Supertech, Ferrea, Brian Crower.

    CNC vs hand porting we can certainly do that. Which brand is better, without pissing off vendors we work with is kind of impossible. BUT, we have shown things to look for. They all have their place.

    Wanna see a 420a Mistu or SRT-4/ PTGT head ported. Was told with +2mm I/E valves you can open it up quite a bit. But I don’t trust that! It ultimately takes your word before I believe it lol.

    Sadly you won't see that on here. We haven't done a 420A head in many years. And certainly wouldn't be using that big of a valve if we did. But do appreciate you commenting and kind words!

    Has anyone done any out of the ordinary experimenting. I have this idea about making air straightening grooves at the beginning of the port all the way to the throat by grinding with a small dremel. Chrysler had air straightener vents on their hood scoops. Try it on a junk head and flow test it

  • @arturozarate1752

    @arturozarate1752

    If your grooves ran parallel to the length of the runner and were shaped to be "fins" you may see increased port velocities. Properly placed of course. One fin at the center of the floor before the short turn for example. That's proven to be beneficial on a single intake valve.

    Get it digitized and cnc port it. why you still hand porting you can never match a machine.

  • @headgames

    @headgames

    2 ай бұрын

    We might digitize a pocket port at some point, but we still have to blend every head that comes out of the machine. The machine can spit them out but it is still a casting so you are dealing with core shift and they are not all the same. A hand knows where the port is, a machine only knows where it should be.

  • @arturozarate1752

    @arturozarate1752

    Yeah the cnc process might save a little time and the cut would be the same cut it was programed to make, but the shadowing will be blended by hand and I've had better flowing short sides after hand blending. Why you love the machine so much?
