K24a2 or the equivalent jdm spec k24a are the best ones you can get. They have the 3 lobe vtec on both intake and exhaust camshafts and have "true" vtec. Mate on an ep3 si 5 speed or tsx 6 speed and you pretty much have the best combo.

Best thing you can do is buy the cheapest k24 out there. That extra money you’re saving from the others do yourself a favor and just buy pistons and rods. I paid for an accord k24a3 I believe (it’s been a while) like $400 bucks compared to what the tsx engine went for at that time not sure now but were like over $1,200. I built a high compression k24 bottom end and put a k20a2 head. My favorite built til this day. As far as transmission. Since I went N/A I went with a 5.0 final drive and KAAZ LSD. That thing gripped whenever I launched it.

Thanks for that - There was also a higher performance PRC manifold for the JDM EP3 Type R, K20A (and probably the DC5 Type R). The EDM EP3 Type R, K20A2 had the PRB manifold as per the K20A2 based RSX Type S. That was a common performance mod in the early days on a UK EP3 Type R (PRB to PRC) before the likes of the RBC and RRC came around. It was rumoured that the UK Type R's had the more restrictive manifold/headers, milder cams and exhaust to limit power below 200 bhp (197 bhp) to keep the UK insurance companies happy, as some performance hot hatches nearly became un-insurable due to car theft in the late 90's

I finally convinced the inlaws to buy a Honda after their Nissan Tidia trans went, it only lasted two years and I told them not to buy a Nissan. They got a 2010 Civic 2.0 (k20) in black and absolutely love it. Good cos I’m sick of fixing shit for them. I have a KB1 Legend in black and my oldest daughter has a one owner 97 Domani (ek) with only 110k km, very rare Honda are number 1, they are the most successful name in the history of motorsport. This channel should be at 800k subs by now it strange why it’s not, keep doing collaborations with others and maybe hit up the Boostedboiz for one, they respect you Brian Watched from New Zealand the land of JDM, so so many 90’s honda’s still getting around but hardly an 90’s Toyota’s left even though twice as many sold

How do you find maintenance and upkeep on the KB1? TBH, I'm a bit of scared of all the proprietary parts that are on it that aren't on any other Honda (AFAIK) and the complexity of it. It seems like a Lexus GS300 or Toyota Crown would be a "safe" choice as it is a more simple car and more common, but is this unfounded? 🙂

So far it’s been great the only thing that scares me is the leather doesn’t seem to last on this model but mine is still good for time being. The Lexus/toyota 2/3GR V6 engines are an absolute nightmare to work on as one cylinder bank is hard up against the firewall and them engines have their problems like water pumps leaking prematurely needing engine removal to replace and just this week my mates Camry Sportivo has developed a nasty rattle when cold which is most likely the VVTI cam sprocket bolts coming loose which is a very common issue with these engines and will result in bent valves if not sorted and engine removal is also needed. The 300hp J35A in my legend is centred perfectly with plenty of room to work on it. The only downside from my Legend is the gear ratio in the transmission is very long but ideally for cruising

RRC manifold comes with Honda Civic FD2 type R from 2007-2011. 221HP Traditional power steering and DBW. Flywheel is about 7kg ish. FS2 type R engine is an improved version of the CL7 K20A. Chromoly flywheel is approximately 4.68kg-4.7kg ish.

I think the stock FD2/FN2 flywheel is ~5.1kg (22100-RSP-003) while the aftermarket Exedy lightweight flywheel (HF02) is ~3.9kg. I think the Exedy (also sold as Toda) is the same flywheel, just with more holes in it, Exedy is probably the original supplier to Honda. I would recommend either, they seem to wake things up. 🙂

The FN2's Accord-like RSP intake manifold is more for mid-range, it actually performs pretty well on K24 engines ironically AFAIK. Lose a little at the top but gain below 7k compared to RBC IIRC. It has pros and cons compared to the RBC and RRC -- the pro is that the K20Z4 already comes with it, so it's "free"! RRC & RBC are not readily available in Europe unlike RBC being readily available in North America. Some people port RSPs out or shorten the runners. The plenum is massive...

[long reply warning] Fyi those 1-4 suffix numbers don’t mean jack diddly for designation of k24a versions or what model vehicle it came from. The Internet has made fake news about those damn numbers and people are drinking that kool-aide unfortunately. It will be rad if Brian dispels this in a future video on the k24 family. Those suffix numbers are relating to in house factories/warehouses locations honda pulls from. Has nothing to do with age or older or newer version of the cylinder head. For instance 2004 RBB-4 cyl heads exist which shats on the this whole internet belief the higher the suffix number the newer the head - total rubbish. The other side of this too is the international versions of the k24 RBB exist not just usdm k24 RBB and that in itself caves the whole reliance on suffix numbers. The best practice way of indicating the differences of usdm/jdm/intl k24a rbb’s is this: The RBB part number alone on the head and intake manifold instantly = performance version k24a (esp if the engine has never been split). An RAA number on head and intake manifold would indicate an eco/base k24a. Then there’s a 2-digit year stamp located on the side of head and/or on the exhaust port side of the head. The US 06-08 TSX/ k24a2 received some worthwhile updates the rest of the world did not get namely an updated larger profile intake camshaft. Also has 1mm larger intake valves (arguably proven useless). It also received a larger plenum RBB intake manifold and throttle body diameter which the rest of the world k24a RBB’s already had since 03 😂; the 04-05 k24a2’s had an raa intake manifold. In conclusion the best way to check k24 RBB cyl heads takes a little more work via “RBB” stamping, year stamp, and measuring the intake valve diameter.
