Competitive Business Strategies: Differentiation vs Cost Leadership. Here we look at the overall competitive strategies that firms use. There is a differentiation strategy that firms like Target use in order to make their shopping experiences nicer and thus people are willing to spend more money on their products, while other firms like Wal-Mart will go for a Cost-Leadership strategy that focuses on saving as many costs as possible to pass on those cost savings onto the end customer. There is also a focus strategy that focuses on one specific group.
