It's amazing how you can describe this in 10 minutes but it takes my university lecturer 90 minutes.

I've always found Porter's models interesting and this video does a fantastic job of explaining the diamond model. Specifically, within the demand conditions, the thorough explanation of the early-warning indicators was very helpful and very important in my opinion.

I enjoyed learning about this model which explains how some countries see more success than others in certain areas. Something I had never thought about previously is the effects of chance on the model. The location of countries could significantly impact competitive advantages if they are more prone to natural disasters than others.

Prior to this video I had heard some professors briefly talk about this theory, but I never understood its actual function or meaning. This video explains in depth all the components of this theory.

I liked that the video goes in-depth about the model. Before this video, I had barely heard of the model. I liked that the video explained the model in a simple and informative manner. I also liked that the video both broke down each aspect of the model and then summarized it at the end.

I knew from taking previous econ classes about absolute advantage/comparative advantage, and knew that on some level there was more to the real life equation than just whole can make the most of a product or who can make the most more efficiently. This was an interesting topic that gave me a deeper understanding of looking at economic advantages that are not only manufacturing advantages.

Great video! I think with online learning there is sometimes a lack of real-world examples. Seeing Porter Diamond Theory explained using real-world examples made it easier to understand. Also, I enjoy how you went step by step and still summarized it at the end.

I found this theory very interesting. It's very intuitive and explains so much about how some countries are just better suited for certain success than others.

Thank you for a succinct description of Porter's international competitiveness theory. I read the book a few years ago and took a lot of notes. It's interesting. I thought his descriptions on Japan were really interesting. The Machine that Changed the World is also fascinating on how Toyota came to dominate the auto industry. I appreciate your graphics and your contemporary examples. God bless you.

This topic could be very difficult to explain because there are so my factors. Great job explaining it in a way that someone who has never heard of it has a good idea of the Porter Diamond Theory!

From taking economics in the past I have learned about absolute and comparative advantage but I have not heard of the Porter diamond theory of national advantage until this course. I think this helps explain how countries can gain comparative and absolute advantages though the four factors discussed in the video.

The Porter Diamond Theory offers business a foundation to analyze their competitors in the marketplace and potentially outmaneuver them. A factor that was interesting to me was the firm strategy and how certain managements practices were used for certain markets.

While there are certain areas that would most benefit from their geographical location, modern day technology lets anyone become successful no matter their location. Once when you could only make a living off good land and outdoor work. Thanks to these advanced factors, we now have ways to work that will not depend on how much rain our area received but rather how smart we are and the amount of effort we put in our work. These changes have only happened in the last 100 years so I am excited to see what is to come next for our world.

I never thought about how each country has a competitive advantage due to the way their government is run; the way of living in the country; the morals; and the values. Countries perform some sectors with more efficiency than others and therefore specialize in those sectors to master and fully maximize their advantages in the global marketplace.

I thought it was interesting that chance was included in this model because you don't see that factored in often. Businesses can either thrive or shut down based off of different unforseen circumstances.

It is interesting to analyze why certain companies operate in the nations they do. For example, China was the first and is still the greatest producer of silk because they have the silkworms and the knowledge to make the silk. Silicon Valley gets its name from the large number of companies that produce silicon chips. The related and supporting companies in Silicon Valley are what makes this area globally competitive in its field.
