Dolmar/Makita have always made great saws. Too bad Makita is discontinuing all gas saws.
Loved the video. Crazy how good it was
They’re beautiful saws.Nice work on that!
Had my dolmar 6400 since 2008, had firewood bizness and cut 300 cords a yr, after 4 yrs i dont cut firewood but gona start climbing again, saw still runs
Lotta tricks on Dolmar/Makita to learn but very easy to work on once you get there. Super running saws, better ported, carb modded and unlimited coiled!!! These saws are hot rods out of the box. Good video!!!
I gotta get my greedy little meat hooks on a Dolkita! Lovin what I saw. Great video Boedy!
A sleeping legend.
Got the saw today. Ima gonna run it right down to my cousin. I'll tell him he's got to run red armor.
I like my 6100. Whole top cover comes off with a few clips and the big air filter is held on with a single nut. Definitely different from that beast you have there

6100 I have one. Badass saw for the price especially once you mod the muffler and tune it
I really like my 7900 I’m on the fence as to whether I’m gonna port it or not. I’ve got three of them so I probably will at some point but I’m not in a hurry.
I always liked the Dolmar saws, but like you said kind of different to work on.
Damn sure looks nice. Just wish they had parts or dealer presence. I have literally never seen one in my area.
I have a ported 7910 low top. I like the looks of the HD setup but heard it hurts power. The low top doesn't have that piece in between. You can access the carb by pulling the top cover. One thing I don't care for is that, like you did, when you shit it down it pulls on the recoil. I pull it out as well. Absolutely love the saw and it gets used most of anything I have. Tree monkey did mine.
Pretty damn strong even without the porting
I don't personally know, but the scuttlebutt is that the low top filter makes more power. I had a German Dolmar years ago, and actually put the high top kit on it right after a got it. Wasn't until after I had sold the saw that I came across that information.
Wish you would have addressed the real issues with the 7900 and that’s the carburetor and exhaust. On mine, the high jet doesn’t seem to be adjustable. The screwdriver fits just fine but it doesn’t turn. The exhaust is very restrictive but being aluminum (I believe) it’s not like I can cut it open, remove the inner crack pipe and weld it back up like you can had it been steel. Possibly it’s stainless and not aluminum but it’s not carbon steel. Maybe someday, revisit the Makita and let us know how you addressed those issues. It runs decent from the factory but that exhaust cuts is restrictive enough I think it’s down about a horsepower from what a good 80cc saw should have and without being able to adjust the high jet I’m leery about opening up the can. Anyway, just some thoughts. Likely you’ll never see this anyway. Appreciate your channel 👍🏼

The muffler was galvanized steel I believe. Welded up like steel no problem. The carb had no issues, so there was nothing to address.

Mine is none magnetic. And like I said, the high jet isn’t adjustable. Maybe I just need to remove a stop. Appreciate the reply even if it didn’t help. lol 👍🏼

The high jet IS adjustable. Remove carburetor, LIGHTLY hold in vise wrapped in a rag, take out your plain old hacksaw w FINE blade and LIGHTLY saw a slot thru screw/ carb counterforce. Very simple and approved mod per Mastermind Worksaws. Only way I could figger to do it and Randy said that was fine. It is rich from factory, and yep, you can weld back together..
The best thing about the 7900 is you could easily build one from an inexpensive used 6400. I loved my 7900 and was used to the quirks but sold it for a 562xp to shed a bit of weight. Now I run all Huskys and Jreds. Just wish I could buy the Autotune diagnostic tool…

I don't know what those run for compression but the 6100's are nuts from the factory. Mine is at 200psi currently.

Man that’s the best saw in its class thing rips
nice
👍
The brake spring is a nightmare.
👍s🆙Big Guy!
TNL you should port that 500I.
I have made more power with coils on some smaller saws so I’m sure it could be the same with that saw but man that thing don’t need anymore power

How did you do the muffler mod
A bit late to be complaining. Dolmar/Makita discontinued their gasoline chainsaws. 2 dealers in my area closed shop.
that's why i stick with husky and stihl
Why does your twin brother win every time? Lol.
be faster and stronger than 592xp, this statement is just for laughs hahahahahah you are a true comedian I bet even this 7910 ported is slower than the stock 572xp

There are only 3 chainsaws from dolmar that surprised me positively: the ps 5105, the ps 550 and the ps 6100. the rest for me does the job, but not great

Makita is a Japanese corporation. Are you calling this German because of Makitas acquisition of Dolmar?
@novicelumberjack

Yes. It is made in Germany. All the Makita gasoline saws were made by Dolmar in Germany.

@@novicelumberjackNice I got a mildly used 6100 in a trade for some pretty insignificantly valued silver plated wares. Pretty stoked.
