I've covered a lot of great mods, but this one really takes the cake (pun intended). Portal: Revolution is a full length narrative-driven mod that acts as a prequel to Portal 2. It's got full voice acting, incredible environmental design, great puzzles and it's about as long as Portal 2 (possibly a bit longer). It's also very polished and feels very much like it could easily be an official Valve Portal game. The amount of work that must have gone into creating this is insane, and it's likely to be the closest thing we'll ever get to Portal 3! :)

This is insanely well made. It's amazing what some people can do. Certain mods kinda make sense but building an entirely new & fleshed out game is mind blowing to me. It's like they had the ability to craft using the OG game engine software..? How do you build fully crafted single player levels with voice acting, etc.? i hope we see more stuff from whoever did this. This takes a ton of talent.

Check out some of the overhaul mods for games like fallout or Skyrim. Some of them are like completely independent, barely tied to the original game, some of which are BETTER than the original game.

they had to use source 1 hammer for the levels which is an achievement alone; that software sucks to use despite this they made the levels look honestly amazing which is even harder

I love this era where people no longer wait for big companies that make good shows or good video games to release a new one or a prequel (for no reason, other than money). (portal: revolution, digital circus, hazbin hotel, etc.) Now we are the one to make thing ! And this will only escalated with time.

"Can quickly end the world if you put a portal on the sun". Well, Lore of Portal 2 wants a word with that line, since you need crushed moon dust to make surfaces portal-able. (Hence why you put a Portal on the moon in Portal 2). But if it were to happen, I think world ending would be the least of my worries lol

@@quantumblauthor7300 All we know for right now because of Portal 2 is that Crushed Moon Rocks is currently the best and only conductor for Portals. There might be more materials but we don't know yet, maybe if Valve gets around making Portal 3. Which is very unlikely lol

Cave johnson bough tons of moon rocks and then found out they were excellent conductor for portals when on a surface, and they gave moon poisoning, I don't think there is any note that Aperture opened a portal on the moon and got the stuff for free, they burned milllions getting it when Cave was alive. Don't ask me why the creators of this in-between 1&2 fangame put that dialogue in when the Portal gun we use in the official game had no limiters and would weird for Glados to remove it for no reason.

Hi! I loved Portal Stories: Mel, and the puzzle design was excellent, but it felt more like DLC than an actual full new game. The scale of Revolution is much larger, with some massive environments, a much longer playtime and great set pieces. Also, the whole thing looks better, has more humor, better VA, more lore and is a lot more polished. Don't get me wrong, they're both excellent, but personally Revolution feels much more like an actual full new Portal game than Mel.

@@AlphaBetaGamer but the story is not much different from Mel... i think the mod is great, and looks beautiful, but a "third game" wouldn't just be a footnote in a "timeline of the series" someone made. i'll wait until Portal 2: Desolation comes out, and maybe that'll make the "THIS IS THE FANBASE'S OWN PORTAL 3" claim a little less ridiculous.

I’ve literally just finished replaying Portal 2. Perfect timing

The environment design is well done, but I must admit - they speedran character development in 3 hours, the pacing of it was really fast, and most notably few and far between. The reason why portal 2's character development worked well is because before, after, and during test chambers, there was dialogue that sometimes went on minutes on end. (Also the part about Stirling trying to kill you doesnt make sense because he wasnt attached to the central processing unit, like Wheatley was, cores generally do have sociopathy but they don't go murderous all on their own.)

Well, I mean Stirling make his goal clear. Revive GLaDOS. Once I heard that, I immediately said: Oh, this guy´s definitely evil- so I wasn´t surprised. It happened kind-of abruptly though and yes, once introducing Emelia the mod was very fast-paced. I also didn´t like the ending itself. I appreciate them doing something different, but it doesn´t work for me. It´s too abrupt, doesn´t really make that much sense once you think about it and only works as a cliffhanger to a sequel that hasn´t even been confirmed. Personally, I thought that Emelia talking about android bodies was actually an ending hint. She talks about wanting to be transferred into an android body quite frequently during the final portion of the game and I thought that was going to play a role in the ending. Bear with me here. We know that each time there´s an escape ending, it´s always just the Test Subject that escapes right? So what if this time, the developers tried to subvert that? You escape, but with Emelia in an android body that she was able to find and transferred herself into. It would be an interesting twist I think. As I said, it´s always just the human that escapes. But never a human and a core.

@@alexrogers9086 Actually the developers commented on Lambda Generation´s review where they acknowledged that the ending is divisive. Apparently they wanted to do more, but also wanted to push the mod out as soon as possible. They chose the latter. They also acknowledged the sequel potential, but said that no, they are not doing one and there are no plans to. So, I guess we end on a cliffhanger that will never get resolved.

For extra flavor as feedback. I would give a timer to the button signing at the beginning so if the player doesn't press it for whatever long, you get an abrupt ending (probably the good ending for avoiding all the trouble?)

I feel bad for him being abandoned even though he's just the villain imagine if you were a vacuum cleaner and that happened to you also it's funny that the core actually abandoned him in the first place

Okay, but SERIOUSLY: This is a FREE mod for Portal 2, and I HIGHLY recommend you to play it. The puzzles are fairly easy. They're about as difficult as Portal 2. The visuals are truly stunning, beautiful environments, and really cool sound design. You'll see what I mean by that when you play it. This is imo a must play, just because it's free, and just because it's so freaking good.

25:10 the insurance clauses are oddly silent about whether being launched headfirst into a high-placed window by a badly calibrated company launch pad is covered by the insurance, tho...

If we could get a sequel, we could probably explore the mining operation on the moon, considering how many moon rock panels they've acquired, also gels, it could also add new game elements like low gravity.

While the mod itself was great, I have to admit that I didn´t like the ending all that much. I get what they were going for, but it´s really abrupt, out of nowhere and seems to lead into an ambiguous sequel that hasn´t even been confirmed yet. It´s not satisfying to me. In-fact, from what they hinted at late in the story, I thought the campaign was going for a surprise twist ending. Emelia mentions android bodies multiple times in the endgame, which led me to believe that she was going to get transferred to one and subsequently would leave together with the Test Subject. Which would actually be a cool subversion/expansion on the surface elevator mod endings. It´s always just the Test Subject that leaves, so why not try something different this time, in which both the human and the core leave together. Cool concept.

I had no idea this was coming out and was just thinking about the portal games the other day. Truly they are both two of the most brilliant, revolutionary, and entertaining puzzle games I’ve ever played. I’ve scarcely ever had as much fun playing a co-op game as I did with them as well. I was pondering why they never made a portal 3, and how sad that is. I’m excited that if we can’t have a true trilogy, at least we have this.

I was starting to doubt it would ever come out, but gosh, t'was worth the wait !

Could say exact same thing about Portal Stories: Mel. For me, everything about that mod was at least on par with the actual Portal 2 (never never mind its from 2015). So this will be Portal 4 then. Problem is, the stories may not be in sync. Edit: actually, there should be zero story inconsistencies (misread this as being prequel to Portal, not Portal 2).

The gameplay, the humor, the story. Everything is just really good. Tho the ending COULD (maybe) have seqoul and it could be 20 years in the future or not, because there is no O2 in on the moon.

The difference between this and a Portal 3 is in that they would have introduced new gameplay mechanics and storyline beats. Interestingly comprehensive mod though.

Dude I absolutely love the portal franchise. I especially love portal stories Mel, portal abyss, and portal revolution, even though they aren’t official portal games. (They’re still canon to meeeee)

For the maker of the mod (if ever sees it) the comment for "That is why there are holes in the ceiling" could have a context that happens randomly "Good thing we do not have a maintenance crew or you could of gone splat, but don't worry, you would be fine... probably." or " Looks like we can cancel that maintenance request, because that is now a feature!"

Really got amazed with this but we want a completely new Portal 3 from Valve over hundred hours play with VR support.

i will never complain on a free to play mod, this is very well made with some decent easter eggs :) i feel like the authors deserve all credits, guys- thank you for this 8,5/10 experience. the closest thing that comes into my mind would be Portal Stories: Mel - and i must admit i would give an absolute 10/10 to Mel, solely because of Cave Johnson narrating, an absolute masterpiece. not to mention the excellent retro vibes and well written ending. If i compare both then Revolution is ok i guess, but if i'd have to pay for this game i would point out the absolute tedious linearity, almost like being lead by hand by an invisible GM, it it squeezed my hand from time to time. I mean... from time to time you should let the player go and die on it's own and after several mistakes discover the path. End the ending... i mean lack of an ending or the very much confusing post credit. i would not like that in a game, but it's free so i don't complan :P

I hope this becomes the Entropy Zero 2 of the Portal community.

Beautiful mod, I didn't understand what the upgrade was between the Portal gun Sterling gives us and the ruined from exposure, one, thought the 1st lacked the grappling modality but nope, it have the claws, someone could tell me what I missed? The red one was really nice too, but I would have put it in a old Aperture private office instead of a public exhibition, perfectly working and without anything to keep it from being stolen.

I personally see this a Portal 4. Portal Stories: MEL was made and released in 2015 and ive seen that as portal 3 since it was released. That is just my opinion.
