Looks to be buildup of wax undercoating for northern vehicles. I hope it is at least. Edit: holy shit nevermind, I paused on it and holy fuck those are terrible.

Only welding enthuistist care about bead(art) 99% commercial grade engineering doesnt care, thats why most taking it out for expoxy bonding which is lighter

It's a bunch of grease euro vehicles are over greased from factory to help with rust but it always ends up getting flung everywhere

portal axle atleast yield 2+ inch of clearance. It allows you to run smaller tire for the same amount of clearance, lot of advantage to that like lower mass and reduced load. It also reduces strain on components because driveline run at smaller angle vs a lift. Still the g-class don't even drive near construction site nowadays.

No not smaller tires for more clearance. You’ll loose clearance. Tires and portals add the inches. So simple math $23,000 dollars=1.5 inch of clearance with 37 Vs $1000 skyjacker lift with ADX remote shocks + Reid racing knuckles $1000 plus 2.5 steering arms $800 plus PSC big bore steering kit $2000 plus Adam’s Extreme driveshaft front and back $1400 bead lock rims and tires $3500. Even if you throw I. Dana 60 swaps you’ll still be cheaper than portals. Portals are a scam

Solid axles allow for a lot more capability once off road, and anyway no one takes a g-wagon off road except whistling diesel

Jeep may have worse clearance but I bet it’s travel is way better than that g wagon which has independent front suspension. Ifs is still really capable but the dual solid axles will articulate more. Also WTF is connecting the panhard rod on that g wagon???

Niether one of them have 10 ply tires go off road witout them in my area and locust thorns gonna flaten all 4 tires causing a loss of 6 to 8 inches of ground clearance

Just by watching this. You can tell he doesn’t know what he’s looking at. The axle is the same as a normal g wagon. It just has a gear reduction bolted to where the hub bolts on.

The tires were way smaller on the g wagon. Huge difference put 37s on the g wagon and you'll have like a extra 6-8 inches of ground clearance.

@@3lsforyou83 I’m going to guess a gwagon has stock 32s specifically because the huge wheels. 32” tires to 37” is a gain of 5” in heigh but axles are at the middle so 2.5” in height. Your math and knowledge on how a circle works is….I recommend you look up diameter versus radius

Portal axels are rubbish, it's similar to normal saloon cars axels, they made the portal axels this way to reduce the road bumps & make it more comfortable, but in other hands it will have lots of wears & tears .
