;) Tono, OM1AEG

Instead of disconnecting two counterpoises, try folding back all four. E.g.: You were fine on 40m, therefore shorten them/fold them to half length for 20m or 1/4 length for 10m respectively. That should gove you better SWR & slightly better performance.

Hi Pavol Ray M0RAY here. I like the look and concept of this new antenna. However I wondering if it will be any cheaper to people in the USA 🇺🇸. I am currently in Houston, Texas, for a very short visit for my lady friends birthday on Monday 11th of March. I'm hoping to be able to set up or keep a radio here eventually. I also have a very similar antenna to this 1 in this video. My antenna for portable use is called the "SUPER ANTENNA SYSTEM ", also from the USA 🇺🇸. The basic SUPER ANTENNA has all the very similar components that you demonstrated here, but I have not yet used my one. From a video that I saw many years ago, the results were excellent. Kind regards to you, Pavol, De Ray,, M0RAY, or if I had a radio with me over here, W5/M0RAY, lol. 73, de Ray.

NICE Presentation and very nice product, how ever out of reach for a lot of people because of price....us average people will have to get creative and make some like this our selves. for a coil use a piece of 2.5 inch dia. or so air dux about 10 inches long and one of those 17.5 foot or so masts and a few more odds and odds and ends and you will have a poor mans portable antenna.

Well, this is almost complete set of things I don't like on ham radio antenna designs. In fact, it's much more like set of things you can use to build something that mimic antenna and, if you are lucky enough, then, in some particular cases, you put that mixture of things together in the way, it somehow radiates into some usable direction. But it's much more like casting a chaos magic spell than building/installing an antenna. First things first. Antennas are made to radiate, not to obtain low SWR. In fact, if you put enough power into that thing, you will see where the most of the power burns in a heat. Every antenna does this, the goal of antenna design is to radiate more and burn less, which leads to some compromises. Achieving low SWR is important, if you cannot feed the antenna, then it is completely unusable, but it's the only small part of the whole design. When it comes to well designed antenna, then SWR potentially can be used to fine tune the antenna in the installation process, but it is the property of design whether is this possible or not. And this is definitely not possible in this particular case, at least because it's not fine designed thing, it's much more bricolage with almost unpredictable outcome. In this case we have vertical radiator with some radials, which leads me to the conclusion, it somehow utilizes ground plane mirroring. That tiny radials are not able to create solid ground plane on such a low frequencies, so it's much likely they are somehow coupled to the earth, which implies that leveling the base of that antenna above the ground is a kind of unfortunate, because it also levels the return path of the current above the earth potential, which requires RF transformer to feed that kind of antenna from some typical transceiver. That thing made of ferrite toroidal cores does not form proper RF transformer, so, in my opinion, it is much better not to level the base of that antenna above ground. And you can also put that two rods to the opposite side to make the radiator little bit longer, which, in fact, introduces similar outcome to leveling the base of the antenna, but without messing with the feeding system. The design itself is probably based on ideal λ/4 vertical utilizing serial reactance to make the real relatively short rod electrically a little bit longer. The problem is that the coil itself is real component, not an ideal one, which introduces some limits into that kind of design, that are in this particular case heavily exceeded, especially when it comes to lower bands. In my opinion, random rod (or wire) feed against ground tuned by L matching network would give you much better results, but well, ok. Mechanical parts. The first thing is that spike. The only way how to use this is to hammer it into the ground, but it has no protection against the hammer. It needs some plug to put into the spike, then hammer that plug, not the spike body itself, then remove the plug. This is the easiest way how to design this and you can use almost anything to hammer that spike into the ground, e.g. nearby stone. The second thing is that coil. It is covered by silver coating, which is ok, but it requires silver coating on that counterside wiper (or what) to make perfect contact. Copper touching silver coated copper is really bad idea for both mechanical and electrical reasons. The third - that metric (not imperial) banana thing. It's so easy to accidentally unplug it. Using thumb screw together with U shaped contact would result in much rigid connection. This would open the possibility to add some elastic band to the end of the radial, which would introduce some tension making it straight. And why the hell are that radials dark green, which makes them almost invisible in a grass. It's easy to trip over that thing if you don't see it. Yellow would be much better.
