Portable Livestock Loading Chute - Pastured Pigs, Sheep, Goats and a Giveaway!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Portable Livestock Loading Chute - Pastured Pigs, Sheep, Goats. We are reviewing a portable livestock loading chute built for our farm to help load our pastured pigs.
This chute is made from pressure treated lumber and some left-over lumber we had from another project on our farm.
If you raise pastured pigs, grass fed lamb, goats or other small farm animals that need to be loaded onto a trailer, you are familiar with the stress that process can cause. This chute is sturdy enough to handle small to medium sized livestock but still lightweight enough to be portable. The chute is easily moved with a farm tractor and can be put anywhere on your farm it may be needed.
This farm project will help increase your efficiency and make loading animals going to processing much easier.
Also in this video, we are doing a give away for a $50 amazon card. Simply go out and support a local farm in your area, leave us a comment in the comment section and be entered into the drawing to be held in 7 days (August 7, 2020). We are doing this as a way to say "thank you" to our subscribers and viewers for helping us reach 1000 subscribers in just over 7 months!

I moved my first hogs to the market yesterday. I don't have fancy tractors, but I had a utility trailer that I put some extra tall sides on. I backed that trailer right up into their pen, and let down the loading ramp. It took a few days, but I had them all quite excited to eat once they figured out I was throwing the food in the trailer. Then on the day I moved them, I just simply had to throw a little food, then put the ramp up. They were so happy to go on a road trip.

Cut a 2x4 a little longer than your highest peg. Screw a hinge on the 2x4 and fasten to the underside of the floor. Now you have a kickstand to hold the weight while you make peg height adjustments.

We have a similar setup but it’s not mobile. So when it’s processing time we have to “ call the hogs home “ lol depends on which paddock their in and how far away they are. Thanks for sharing !

I didn't get the names, but Saturday afternoon we stopped by a stand that has these tie-dye tomatoes that my wife likes and then we dropped by the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market and got a bunch of stuff from 3 or 4 local (local to NC, not as local to the Triad as I would have preferred). If we could have made it to High Point, I would love to have gone ahead and bought some very local pork and chicken this week, but that will have to wait until next week ;)

Excellent video! Thanks for the idea. I built my own livestock trailer from a utility trailer with sides similar to those on your chute. After the first hogs we loaded, I wish I had thought of the sliding gate for it. Sounds like I’ll be reworking it soon. Thanks for the mention! Keep up the good work, the videos are very informative!

  • @Skashoon

Perhaps you built it 6’ high to load sheep or goats, but since I just have pigs, I would think 4-5’ height to be adequate. I understand that there could be a trailer with a big step-up, or loading into a pickup truck, just wonder whether the pigs will go up that much of an incline angle. Or am I neglecting to consider something else? I’m trying to make one that’s lighter and more compact with skids, to pull into position with my lawn tractor, since I don’t have a farm tractor. Thanks
