There's no emulation here, like he said in the video, the Ashida uses an actual Wii motherboard that was trimmed to be smaller (as crazy as it sounds it's real). So it uses real hardware, and runs everything natively (no emulation) just like a Wii because there's literally a Wii inside. Edit: I've realized you were referring to the other people in the comments oops. Oh well, I'm not deleting it for the other to read the explanation

Im not getting a handheld that cant even do more than my phone. The only thing this has over Dolphin and a PS4 controller is the controller layout.

I’m personally putting a Wii into a Wii U gamepad. I like the feel of it more than a gc controller. edit: I’m gonna get more experience first before I attempt this

Wii U gamepads are so rare tho, and will only get more rare as the years go on cause Nintendo only made 1 per console and they made it so it’s probably going to be impossible for third party ones to be made. If you do throw a wii into the gamepad maybe try and make it reversible lol those things are gonna be worth a mint in 20 or so years

I had discovered this kind of consoles and the bitbuilt forum with a French youtuber (milomaker) and since then I am amazed, I intend to redo the wii miicro which have not been found on the forum, it will be my first mod of its kind and I think after making a portable Wii like yours, I find these kinds of projects absolutely brilliant

Commissioned one of these from a guy and it took him 8 months and then came broken. Took him another 4 months to fix it for me and it broke again in a day. Ended up just getting a refund for my $900. Always admired these but this experience burned me really hard. Thank fucking god the Steam Deck makes these obsolete, and the emulation is often better anyways

@crazygadgetmods I commissioned mine from someone who was head staff at BitBuilt at the time, so I trusted him quite a bit. That was part of why it was such a dissapointing experience. I'm good with my steam deck for now

I wonder how they were able to make a functional portable device using a console’s PowerPC processor.

Depends on the game usually 3-4 hours on GC games and 2-3 on wii games. Emulating N64 or GBA for me seems to be pretty good to I usually get around 4 hours on that too, although everything depends on what’s inside, like if the Bluetooth module and MX chip are in there, which if CrazyGadget made this one then almost certainly he put both in as his work is gorgeous, as you can tell

@@broham9877 look up g man modz, madmorda, shank mods, gingerofoz and anybody else in their community. They all have online resources detailing mods and builds they’ve done in the past. If you have any experience with 3D printing and soldering, that will really help. I hope you can figure it out, i’m still trying to learn myself

1. the disc drive draws too much power, if you included it, the battery life would be significantly shortened 2. the disc drive is big and it can't be trimmed down, so the portable would have to be made much larger 3. i don't think the wii disc drive was designed to be moved around as much as regular handheld would while reading games

while the dvd drive has to be emulated (basically think like a virtual dvd drive program for a pc) the code that comes from a gamecube iso can 100% be natively run on the wii, due to the fact a wii is just an overclocked gamecube with extra ram

Not at all, it is Homebrew that simply launches the game, it isn't emulating the games at all, in fact its all running natively. Imagine your discs being replaced with the USB drive instead to put it better.

There's a "widescreen hack" option in RVLoader that re-renders the game to show that extra bit on either side of the screen. No stretching! And some games natively support 16:9 like Super Monkey Ball

It’s when you put a disc or cartridge into your computer and it’ll give you the files for the rom and then you have to load them up into an emulator then bam you have your rom you put in your emulator

It plays wii because it *is* a wii. The wii is backwards compatible with gamecube games so it’s not an emulator. The fact that you use roms (or just official disc backups) does not mean it’s emulating it, because it’s running at full speed on native hardware

Its not an emulator. When you use a disk to play a game its reading a rom. We created emulator to read those roms. This can read those roms natively.

The Wii reads the disc image file from the USB in the same way it would read it from the disc. Same file, different physical media! So it truly is no emulation!

Is this running the games through emulation? “No, it’s running the roms on Wii hardware through backwards compatibly” So it’s emulating.

the wii is basically just an overclocked gamecube with extra ram, so when you load up an iso of a gamecube game onto a wii, it is able to run it 100% natively.
