Before You Play Are you sure you played the game correctly? As an example, at 26:01 the five coin PIRATE ship, which is indicated with the skull and crossbones and the cannons on the card firing, does an attack on your harbour. If you don’t have sailor defence I’m purity sure something happens. The firing cannon indicate that even if you do have sailor defence it still effects the active players harbour. Otherwise why would one need sailors with defence icons? It has been a long long time since I have played this game so I could be totally wrong.

@@stevegeorge7773 Great question! I had to reference the rulebook again to make sure haha. There's no pirate attacking mechanic in this game from what I've read in the rules. The skull and crossbones just means you are not allowed to repel the ship regardless of how many sailors/pirates you've hired. We probably should have mentioned that in the video, sorry!

@@stevegeorge7773 To my knowledge the Skull on ship cards only indicate that the ship can never be repelled. Once it's drawn it has to move into your port/market doesn't matter how many swords you have. I believe they played it correctly. The only thing I'd noticed was at 27:46, 28:17 where Naveen should've taken 1 coin from the bust due to his jester.

One small point about repelling ships. The rulebook says "A player can always stop voluntarily and proceed to the 2nd phase unless he draws a Ship that is of identical color to one that is already in the harbor dispay [sic] and that he cannot repel.". Most KZread demonstrations of the rules seem to imply that once a second ship of an identical color is drawn, it's an automatic bust, but the rules suggest that the player has the opportunity to repel this ship first. This gives the Sailor and Pirate cards much more tactical value.

This is one of our go to gentle-ish Sunday games. Is lots of fun and the push your luck adds spice. I have one of the expansions which adds some new character cards and contracts, which are objectives anyone can achieve. Adds a little without disrupting the base game too much. Look forward to your play of Oh My Goods!

The minor bantering of telling other players to keep drawing in hopes they bust and also for them to buy a card during your active turn so they can pay you a coin makes this a fun small box game. The game can run a little long occasionally but other than that, I love the quick setup (one multi-use deck!) and all that it offers in filler+ gameplay. Thanks for the playthrough and this series!

Hi. Great video. Fisters game are a Mixed bag. Great: great western trail,, ok: Maracaibo, Mombasa, bad: black out Hong Kong. So I hope his new coming game is more interesting with more new mechanics, because his bigger Boardgames tend to be not so different from each other.

@@BeforeYouPlay You need to get this! As Ian says, it is our favorite way to play the game too. There is a third expansion, The Adventure Begins or something like that, which adds a campaign mode. You can really see little bits of Maracaibo starting to surface in these little card games. The Steve Jackson game is just a re-implementation of Port Royal, sadly with different components that don't integrate with the expansions. I got rid of my Steve Jackson version to get the Pegasus Spiele editions. You are going to love Oh My Goods. The dual use cards that you either use as resources or build is brilliant. As with Port Royal, there are some great expansions that deliver some additional content, so don't miss out on any of them. They follow a similar path of competitive base game, add solo and campaign play. There's even a spin-off called Tybor the Builder that is like the Unterwegs stand alone expansion to Port Royal, but better, I think. These are all great background for Expedition to Newdale.

Port Royal with the extension is the best game Ive ever played. Myself & my 3 adult children LOVE this game. With extention added its even far more interesting yet again requiring more brain work/strategy & as time goes on different strategies are figured out. It can be played differently with diff goals each time with extention. Getting as many swords as possible is powerful to never bust.

Just played this last night with some of the kids in our church youth group. One of our favorite games. Loved the grin on Naveen's face at the end (though he could have been a gentleman and let your retroactively repel the one-sword ship). Really enjoy your videos, partly because of the great chemistry you have and that you always seem happy and smiling.

I didn't realize he had lighter games until your ranking video - this seems like a good way to scratch a push-your-luck itch. I had discovered Deep Sea Adventure before covid but I don't think it'd be worth playing that at 2p, unlike this one.

This seems quite fun. I did feel that with this playthrough and only two players you didn't make use of the cards at your disposal. At the beggining I thought that you'd build a tableau and work off of it to make synergies happen, but you guys mostly tried to fulfill the pre requisite and then sprint to the finish line. I think I'd like this game to have a bit more variability in the powers and make them more interesting and powerful. Having swords to repel ships didn't seem to play out at all. I have Oh my Goods! and i love it. It's fun, fast, just enough push your luck built into it, and no negative player interaction. Terrific filler game.

You are absolutely right about that lol. We tend to underestimate the value of pirates and sailors and don't invest in them early as we probably should be doing. Neither of us play this style of game very much so I think we both had our eyes on the prize, and that kept us from employing a proper strategy from the beginning. We are excited to cover Oh My Goods! Glad to hear you enjoy it!
