Port Noise - Explained

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a video requested by a few of you guys explaining port noise. I tried to keep as simple as possible using winISD. Hopefully you guys get a better understanding of what port noise is and all the different ways to channel sound between, and out of compression chambers. So, until next time don't forget to like and subscribe.

    Port Noise explained, but no one on KZread gives real-world examples showing an enclosure that's introducing chuffing. About to saw off the top of my box to correct this issue, and hopefully it'll be my first posted video.

    To clarify: mach has nothing to do with noise, it’s a measure of velocity. The tab he’s referring to is measuring the speed of the air moving in the port. It’s proven that due to shape and friction, a smaller port will cause chuffing over a certain velocity specific to that particular example. That’s why a single 8” can have a much smaller port (moves much less air) than an enclosure on wheels with multiple 15s.

    My winISD doesn't show vent mach, it shows rear and front port air velocity, i always try and stay under 80fps. Whats your thoughts on this? Also I'm researching 6th orders. I'm going to build my first one soon. I have built quite a few ported boxes and they sound amazing, very loud with not alot of power.

    This sub seems optimized for small enclosures. Which is good. You're calculating about 13 square inches of port area. Which should be okay, if you flare/ chamfer/ or round your edges. However, It depends on your tuning frequency and what you are expecting from the performance. If you are concerned about port noise, make it 1.5 wide

    Keith Honeycutt I'm assuming you mean port area. Go with the manufacturers recommendation. As for width and height? You could use the manufacturer recommendations or customize it... That is your choice to determine with the software. Keep us posted!

    The larger the port area, the flatter the curve = sub bass frequencies will sound the same 20hz-100hz+. SPL = port designed for maximum output at desired competition frequency.

    Port noise can usually happen if one side of the port has a smaller hole and one side has a bigger hole it's usually both sides are uneven if the port is cone shaped your definitely gonna get port noise

    Port noise is caused by not tuning the port correctly if you don't properly tune the port you will get port noise

  • @doskoreanitos2588

    @doskoreanitos2588

    Travis Gulley actually you can tune it properly and still get noise. It’s more about the resistance and velocity of the air passing through the port causing noises. Similar to when you blow air into a flute and a glass bottle etc to make Noise
