Thank you for watching and for your support! I consider the initial charging issues to be very minor when compared with how amazing the Taycan is to own and drive. And frankly, this was in the south versus a state like California which is much further ahead in EV adoption and installation of a real charger network. The fact that we were able to make it home, over 1,300 miles with no prior EV experience is a win in my book. Will be covering the ownership experience in another video coming soon, but we are seeing up to 311 miles of actual range around town. Have a great weekend, and really appreciate what you do.

Considering a Taycan, but the lack of a dependable charging network keeps reeling me back to Tesla. Since your purchase of your Taycan, has the charging frustration increased to the point where you would not recommend this car? Thanks for your great video.

First, thank you for watching, subscribing and for your support. The answers to your question are more complex than a quick yes or no. I’ll try to answer you here. What are your needs for your automobile? We use my wife’s Taycan at least 95% for local use as her only car. We have almost 9,000 miles on the Taycan in 11 months. The way we use it, we charge overnight in our garage maybe twice a week, depending on her use that week. She is a real estate agent and so she drives long days with many stops, showing properties. She also makes runs to Costco, the hair salon and our younger daughter’s school and friends homes. The Taycan is absolutely a joy to drive, still. It has spent exactly Zero days in the shop for any reason. We did hit a pothole in the rain two weeks into her ownership, which required a new tire. That’s it. The Taycan is the most exciting and enjoyable car my wife has ever owned or driven. Now we did take a day trip out town in early September to a small town literally in the middle of nowhere. The temperature outside was 113 degrees. We had full A/C, the vented seats and the massage function going and we were running 70-80 MPH the entire way. When we finished our business in that town, we had only 89 miles of range left to get home. Far less than we needed. Our plan had been to make it to an EA charging station along our route home but that was not possible. And there were literally no stations out in the country amongst the farmland between our location and home. That includes any Tesla station. So we ended up pulling into a tiny little Chevy dealer along the way, and they allowed us to charge for 45 minutes until they closed at 6:00 PM and their power was shut off. After that, we made it to the originally planned EA station with 6 miles left. If you need to use your car for frequent long distance drives, at this point, a Tesla will definitely give you more options and greater flexibility. That’s worth something. And the Tesla is a fantastic appliance. As I said in the video, it’s probably the better choice for most people. For us, as you can see in the video, we are a Porsche household. We really appreciate the quality, the feel and the driving enjoyment a Porsche provides. That is something no other EV on the market can do, and something we are willing to accept some compromises to enjoy. Not everyone will feel the same. What cars do you drive now? How important is it to you to love what you drive, versus using the practicality of what it can deliver? In the next couple years this will likely become a moot point as almost every manufacturer besides VW Group has signed up to make their cars run using the Tesla network. Even the VW Group cars will likely be able to use the Tesla chargers with an adapter. So the real turning point is still ahead of us and will happen when the network is better built out. Which is clearly on the way. You may find the follow up video I did on that Taycan of interest. Thanks again and please let me know what you decide!

I really love the car, but I may wait and purchase used seeing the depreciation is hitting this model very hard. I’m wondering why that is the case when so many owners appear to rave about them? @wydryfly Thank you for your support. The Taycan depreciation is actually lower than others, including Tesla. Look at how much a Model S Plaid has dropped over the last 24 months. Premium cars almost always have significant depreciation. Look at any BMW 7 series or Mercedes S class. There are many reasons but the reality is that save for a very few exceptions, cars will depreciate and are not investments. A CPO Taycan from a Porsche dealer is a great move!
