A well preserved 914 will set you back that amount. Remember in the 70's if you had a 2.7 litre Porsche you had something VERY special. The 981 is truly a performance bargain in manual or PDK. I wish they sold a model without navigation and most power options. Unfortunately, with Porsches that would mean you pay more for less. Very good video sir. Cheers!

@@Snow_Cat707 Totally, I'm in Canada and there are 2007/8s for $20k usd well under 100k miles, almost all of them garage kept and summer driven. There are a few 14/15s for ~ 35k usd. I'm thinking I might as well just get an 07 base model and call it a day. Really, who do I think I am not being happy with a car like that with a smooth engine and good paint??

dachanist you done your research in the first gen 987.1’s? The ims bearing issues and cylinder were issues were a problem for that gen that could cost you to replace an engine. They fixed it with the gen two 09-13 but they’re much harder to find since nobody was buying sports cars during the recession. Currently a 09-13 987.2 can be gotten for about 25k with about 50k miles and a 14+ can be gotten for about 30-35k.

Nice review and good to see from an actual owner! You pretty much have my dream 'attainable' car. I guess downshifting with pushing the stick forward is considered more racey since you would normally downshift under heavy breaking and then you are kind of being pushed forward yourself so it's in the same direction. This doesn't matter so much for more comfortable versions. Hope you continue to have lots of fun with it. Just don't call the engine a straight 6 anymore haha. It's a Porsche, not BMW 😋

Answering your Q: the manual - / + arrangement comes from motorsport and rally SMG gearboxes, when accelerating & being pushed into the seat, it's easier to pull the lever for up-shifts, while braking and downshifting it's easier to push. The common setup of + / - is for the "avg drivers", coz otherwise most ppl tend to get confused about it ;)

It’s a great car and I’ve noticed the Cayman keeping it’s value more so than a 911. I want the Cayman you have but 911’s are about the same price used but older model so it makes it tough to decide. I also appreciate your take is more practical and not from the perspective with bottomless funds.

Sharing Lungs thanks for taking the time to comment, and yes, at the end of the day you can get into an older version of a 911 for the same price as the cayman shown in the video, like you said its not an easy decision but still a good decision to have ;)

Someone asked why not the Cayman "S" model. I purchased my 2014 new and was told if you don't track the car buy the Basic 275 hp which is more than enough hp for cruising. However. getting the PDK was expensive, upgrade Harden. Karman sound system was worth the money, twin exhaust $500 pipes for appearance was imperative. It was all great dealer advise and after 42k miles this car won't be sold as long as as I'm alive. Why are buyers having issues with the ceiling falling? I haven't experienced that YET. Should I be worried??? All in all a great bang for the buck for my white exterior and black leather interior.

Your tires are stronger than you think. 1 track day will not totally ruin your tires unless you're pushing the car like Lewis Hamilton.

Thanks for the honest in-depth review. From what I've read, Porsche are among the most reliable cars/brands if you do proper maintenance - what would scare me is not the (cost of) warranty, but rather the cost of insurance... how much is yours? Some insurance companies in UAE refuse to insure a Porsche :P

Dubai DRIVER hi there, thanks for your comment, in terms of insurance, it cost me 5000aed yearly to insure it, fully covered both sides NOT agency repaired, the agency repair shoots the price up to around 8000aef, not worth it in my eyes

I have 2014 S- Never had a any mechanical problems. But I did have the roof liner come down. Also, the side arm rests had to be replaced they blew up from Fla. heat. The front headlights had to be replaced as the plastic lining bubbled from the heat. Porsche is having an issue with heat affecting the interior. Other than that a great car-and the S gives a better thrill than the regular-and it is faster

I would LOVE to have one and maddeningly I can easily afford one too...even a new S model for that matter if I chose to ....but instead I drive a lowly 155hp 2018 Miata manual club (if I had to do over I would choose higher trim level is "S"but I just did not realize I could get Bella and whistles AND the better suspension and dif etc)....why? Because I honestly have so little self control and I'm pretty sure I would just lose my license in VERY short order. Note however that the new generation of Miata (2019 is upped to 181hp) is SO much fun and limits one so often from going ridiculously fast and yet? It FEELS like you are ....and honestly in the right canyons I can't imagine many cars doing it quicker than I can...one would have to wait for straighter road to go faster. BTW the Miata wieghs more than a 1/4 ton less than the Cayman at 2300llbs....probably the power to weight ratio is not nearly as far off as one might realize ...and just to illustrate my driving? I can DESTROY a set of tires in just a few thousand miles ....lol luclkily Miata tires are smallish (205 45 17) and cheap! ...like $500 for a set of decent summer tires or much less even if you don't drive aggressively.and opt for lesser tires.
