IMS, RMS, bore-scoring, porous cylinders linings - oil mayonnaisse & PDK failure. I just kept mine under Porsche extended warranty for peace of mind and so I could sleep at night then sold it when I maxed the 18 years...

Amazing how many experts who have never owned a 996 or Maserati 4200 coupe like to comment on how bad they are and their faults and astronomical repair bills. Make no mistake these are not cars you can run on Corsa budget money, but they are affordable if you do the maintenance and work yourself. If you are a competent mechanic, you can do 90% of the jobs on these cars yourself at a fraction of what a garage or main dealer would charge. You have to go in with an understanding that you may face a large bill at some point and be prepared for it, but for the majority of the time, regular oil and filter changes and have respect that these are high performance engines and therefore need to be treated with respect, i.e. low revs until warmed up and more frequent oil changes if frequently used in anger. Great video BTW!

On average in the time I have owned a 996 c2 and just the maintenance and repairs required for mot or just being needed to keep my much loved car in the best possible condition it is possibly the best and slightly cheaper than outer cars in similar spec my m6 or 6.3amg I think the 996 911 is going to be cheaper in repair bills and definitely a lot cheaper than the bag of s**t rang rover that broke my hart and bank bit average the cost over time of owned the 911 is going to be a lot cheaper than a lot of my much loved outer cars and the fact I was able to do a lot of work on the 911 myself and easy to do ie oil changes etc saving a lot have a go at changing a starter motor on a amg lol have fun 😅😅

I have this house for sale. It's in a flood plane downstream of the neighbor's open septic pit, so the basement fills with human waste every other year. I listed it at 3x the price of non-floodplane comps because I know someone will appreciate the opportunity to rebuild the foundation just the way they like it every time it floods! It's a high-performance luxury property. Sure, you could buy the neighbor's newer house that doesn't flood for about 50% more, but that wouldn't be the enthusiast's choice.

Would you be able to share where you source the liners/sleeves? I live in the US, but I'd be willing to order from the UK.

About time I have been telling people in the club it is possibly to rebuild the items whiteout spending more than the value of the car

All the BMWs are gone 🙁 only have Porsches now. Not worth investing as no money to be made on BMW it’s also not bmw that made me the money to be able to buy a 997 turbo now. I like my Porsches as I’m in the trade and I like cars that hold value and don’t depreciate.

Bore scoring is because of a design change. Specifically aluminum cylinders with aluminum pistons (and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that doesn't work) I have a 1974 2.7 that has Nickle-silicon (Nickasil) cylinder liners (coating) it is bullet proof. It uses all aluminum pistons. NO bore scoring. At 150k mi it still had the cross hatching in the cylinders! Porsche changed to Alusil cylinders and aluminum pistons (with steel coated skirts that comes off in chunks) and YOU (as the car owner) have a problem! You said "these 911's are track cars, they are race cars" Incorrect, as (IMO) many of your statements were. Porsche does make "race cars". NONE of their general production cars are.

Would rather not too many people like to watch your buisness and I’m not about that life. I’m a private person and keep my location and my cars private as you probably see none of my Porsches have been shown with the number plates in any of my videos and I never film anywhere apart from my shop I even have blinds up so nobody can see anything else apart from me. I’m probably one of the most private KZreadrs on KZread I don’t reveal or let anyone see anything other then what I want them to see 😊

If you put new liners on banks 456 only, is that ok?

Nope as the others will score later on as they are all made of the same and you will be stripping that engine down again before 10,000 miles after rebuild. I would not take that chance myself I’m having all 6 done

@BMWDoctor thoughts on steel liners? Are they suitable replacements as most shops are putting these in. Are they suitable considering differences in heat etc.

Steel liners is what I’m having put in from what I know nobody has had any issues with them as steel is more robust and it’s what was used on older Porsches there has been many rebuilds with steel liners without any comebacks from what I know. But again that’s not to say there hasn’t been but that’s also the same with hartech they will tell you they are having to redo work from steel liners but then you will get company’s who are having to redo hartech work from them not doing it properly. It all comes down to how the liners were installed in the first place and if it was done correctly. Wahat material you use for the liners isn’t a issue
