Hate when these dudes hate on the civic. This is a 1.6 civic. Even if its turbo its keeping up with a 997 techart. A regular 997 would still be an accomplishment. But a 1.6l civic kept up with a 3.6l 997. I don't care what you say that's bad ass.

It is truely amazing. I do love honda civics myself it is just that the general public believe it is a weak ricer car due to all the ricers on the internet. The civic has so much potential, and seeing this video just shows how much power it can produce.

The biggest downfall of the civic is the fwd, if it was rwd or awd I think the stigma that come with them would be gone I like them for daily drivers

Awd is more launch I'm assuming you know that much if your into any motorsports. Better tires may of helped but all that torque on fwd doesn't get a lot of grip on the pavement.

That was a nice race hands down. The sweet part is the Porsche was on a street setup. The civic was cool no doubt, but the 997tt is a perfect blend of beauty, class and raw power!!. You can go out on casual dinners with it, and then take to the track and beat on it all in the same skin.

Hey bro, yeah I dunno how much big difference in prices for Evos and STIs performance parts. Ok I know about GT35R turbo kit, but we still gonna need some tuning, labour charges, upgraded clutch kit, fuel pump, fuel regulator, injectors, and some other bits & pieces. Can u get all these for $5k? Or maybe $10k sounds about right?? (O_o) For STIs we still need to pay extra for the FMIC (-_-) But are u sure that turbo kit will get u to 11s?

Porsches are superb on the launch thanks to the engine mounted at the rear. Civic did a good job keeping up pretty well...

Its something I've been saying for years. I tend to build cars that aren't "normal" cars to build, so I can't hate. I may not LIKE the way a car looks, but modifiers are individuals, and their cars fit their individual styles, so if they like it, THAT'S whats important.

that civic had a two step witch does the same thing but makes the turbo spool at a standstill so it can launch in the boost.

@dham99 its not hard to make a civic do an 11 second run..u put a turbo on it boom u got an 11 second car with a camaro...the old ones anyway u gotta do a lot of work to the car to make it do 11 second runs...which doing more work to a car is more fun anyways....although making a new camaro do 11 seconds isnt as hard since a 2010 camaro already does a low 13 second run.

In some ways, I agree with you though. The title "exotics" tends to be Eurocentric. A Corvette is actually quite comparable with the 911, for example, both in price and in performance, yet the Porsche brand seems to stand out a little higher inherently. Both the Corvette and the 911 are more affordable of sports cars than say Lamborghini or Ferrari, and both can be head turners. I see Corvettes more often than Porsches. Corvettes AND Porsches are both above-average sports cars.

It is inherent in the design of the engine with the torque. Why do you hate people for their love of modifying and learning how to increase performance of their engines. We all start somewhere. A good sports car is not just having massive horsepower, it has to be balanced as well. If you were into tuning cars, you would appreciate the work put into those mods, instead you sounded like an average consumer basing opinions on irrelevant things.

Well for those who dont know the civic especially the hatch are made for unoptimized performance which mean no barrier, the porche on the other hand has a limit.

I think some miss the point. The Honda was not built to look good. In this case it was built to go fast in a straight line, and it does remarkably! Maybe it doesn't do everything a Porsche can do but one should appreciate or at least respect what it can do.

Thats exactly why it can be benificial to mod civics. Even though a civic isn't necessarily a beast in every event it is definatley a contender. Hell the first 9 sec honda was a crx back in the early 90's with i believe a b18 swap. Civics can be time attack, autocross, drag, ect. (no drift cause FF)but the greatest thing is, while being able to handle heavy modification ,with a good tune, it is still a reliable daily driver. There are 8th gen civic si Fa5's with over 540WHP being driven daily.

@claytonjester ummm. That porsche was tuned by professtionals. It ran a 10.8 quarter mile (way faster than stock). The civic also wasn't slow by any means, running 11.6. Both are faster than the aston martin you aspire to own. Cars don't need to be tuned by professionals to be fast, that just makes them expensive.

You obviously didnt understand what i was trying to say, porsche's were made for a totally different genre/type of racing, they have been the best race-car in its class for a number of years. Note that people dont use FWD for race cars because they dont handle nearly as good as RWD, on the other hand the civic is a beast at drag racing, and thats about it, note the civic is FWD which is why its so fast at accelerating (pulling>pushing). So it really cant compete when it comes to racing/cornering

That Porsche tried to be slick by creeping up little by little, by the time the race started he was already half a car ahead! LOL

The porsche 928 came 11 years before that with aluminum body, all aluminum engine, passive rearwheel steering etc etc. Became the car of the year -78. Ages ahead of its time and before japanese cars. Became the fastest productioncar ever built in -86 with the S4 model but later became to expensive to build. My -90 model has more equipment than most new cars and I run it 10000 km this summer with no problems whatsoever. Everything still works as new on it.

Make that Civic a RWD or AWD and I'm pretty sure that would change everything. Damn good video though. Always nice to see an low cost heavy modded car beat a $100,000 plus car stock. Of course because of videos like this every one thinks there 95 civic is god...People need to understand a car like a civic si is a fast practical car for its class but it is by no means a super car stock. Now it also has THE best selection of aftermarket products of any car I've ever seen.

The Porsche is made to do this all day but not just drag, it's a corner carver too & the reason it's built for this is because Porsche uses top quality stuff in their construction. The gu I responded to said that a built K20/24 hybrid could beat this Porsche & I responded that it would take more than that.

That Civic wasn't that far behind! About 1.5 seconds slower is amazing considering the 997 has 600+ BHP, 2 more cylinders, and possibly 4WD cause it may be a 4S.

I understand that but you need to see the fact that the only reason that they're not dead even is because you cant stick to the track as well with FWD, and on top of the the porsche comes equipped with launch control so he can just hold it at 4k RPM and do a clutch dump to start.

@manolis9215 i use to think the same way but dont sleep on these little civics, they swap the motor out to something that can handle like 500 hp , so you got all the power in a very small light car, that alone makes it extremely fast, i have seen a honda civic beat a dodge viper, look it up its on youtube. personally though im not a fan of the hondas but they are fast . dont ever bet against one .
