Big thanks for completely demystifying Porsche’s flat water cooled engines and showing that it’s just a bunch of nuts and bolts, all the same as any other engine. To read the forums people speak of these things like they’re glued together with fairy dust epoxy that only level 100 Porsche certified grand wizards are able to manipulate into a functional source of power. I was going to buy a Miata and install a high compression 2.5 in it (junkyard Ford Fusion engine rebuilt with performance parts, same engine family as stock 2.0), but seeing that I’m able to rebuild an M96 without thousands of dollars worth of specialty tools I may go for a 987 Cayman instead.

Well Michael, THAT is all music to my ears, Thank you Dude 🙌. A major driving force behind choosing this Pretzel they call an engine was all those things you mention with of course the "Beware the dreaded scourge ye call the IMS Bearing, lest YE be turned to STONE! 🧙♂️" thing. By this time you may have started your project (The comment section ran out of the barn 😅) Let me know what you ended up going with if you don't mind 🤓. Thank you for watching 🤘😎
Exciting, terrifying & overwhelming......your calmness during this project is like a lighthouse during a major storm, providing guidance to safer waters! My Porsche Dream has been reignited, thanks Finn!

A video of adding all new fluids to a rebuilt engine would be useful.
Brilliant Ive done alot of work on the engine whilst its in the car- it was really helpful to see the niggly bits great quality video.

I'm glad it was helpful Michael 🙌 Just in case you have not had enough Porsche Engine videos we are attempting the second first start this week kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4aC09GHkry9dbg.html
I would love a little more on the AOS. Did you replace the diaphragm? I am considering the Ultimate AOS as when I do the IMS would be a good time as the engine is a bit "loose" in the process and I understand it is so much easier to replace then. I have loved your channel from the beginning and am really looking forward to the start-up and first drive! You are going to love the 996, it really is a wonderful way to be in the 911 family at what I would call a bargain entry fee!

Watching you gets me thinking it might be best to just drop the engine and the transmission when I do the IMS. I don't need a rebuild, but do need to do the coil packs and the AOS for sure. Since I have to take out the transmission anyway, what do you think, how hard would it be to take out the engine as well? Obviously, a lot of fluids would need to be drained and bleed. So is access worth that extra work?

Helllo Idea Brick works 🙌. Yes I replaced the entire aos with a new one from the Porsche dealer $127. I also replaced both vent pipes and their o rings. The script for this week was originally much longer and included some more about the Aos and the vacuum system. I ended up buying a vacuum pipe kit from Porsche but it won’t arrive until tomorrow, that should be in this weeks episode. The ultimate Aos does seem like a good idea. Thank you for watching 🤘😎
This really is the best Porsche engine build page around. As someone who is happy to build engines it's so nice to see in a nice easy, well presented fashion where all the bits fit if/when I need to pull mine out 👍

Howdy Sir! Your invention is impressive 🙌 This episode was cut for time to fit everything in. I had researched the UAOS to a much greater extent than mentioned in the video. My hope is to at least let everybody know the options available to them, even if I don’t always go down that path. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

@@ManinaGarage I understand. I just suggest that if people who "pay shop labor" that the UAOS will save labor cost instead of when replaceing the AOS every few years. It also works very well on the Track with the special Track Drain add-on. Another bit of technical info correction about the video, the coolant hoses going to and from the AOS are actually used to warm the AOS regulator during cold weather to keep ice from forming inside the regulator high velocity section. The UAOS does away with the need for these coolant pipes and there possibility of them leaking.
I'm not sure how you did all of that without becoming aroused??? Seeing you carry all of that out without scraping the crap out of every one of your knuckles was like watching Porsche Porn. So, I watched it again, but only needed a few more minutes. Well done mate. Looks good can't wait to hear it start. Cheers

Hi, I’m doing similar work and need to buy a torque wrench for low settings. Can you tell me the lowest setting you have used for the 996 in the build? Thank you and regards from Dresden.
@ManinaGarage
2 жыл бұрын
Greetings to Dresden 🙌 That is a very good question 🤓 This week had the lowest Torque setting so far, 6.5 Nm on the small connector for the Starter motor wiring. The highest torque setting was 80 Nm for the Assembly Bore Screw Plug in Episode 37. Good luck with your project, Thank you for watching 🤘😎
@ManinaGarage

The transmission bolts I did today are 85Nm !
Brilliant 👍👍So my question is...do you think there is enough information for me to just follow your videos in order to pull mine apart, fix the cracked head and put it back together? If not, what other information resources do you recommend? I have the Bentley manual and have just got down to seeing my IMS bearing/flywheel removed.

@@ManinaGarage hi, there are many different views regarding “running in” my take on it is, I never used running in oil just the correct oil and changed at a couple hundred miles Get it up to temp before working it over 3000 rpm Vary the revs don’t use harsh revs but don’t just use low either Keep a close eye on the temperatures and oil pressure definitely do not get it hot, You shouldn’t need many miles to bed stuff in just need to settle the crank shells and new rings. If alls well no knocks rattles and fluid leaks you should be all good. I’ve built race engines both two and four strokes for bikes and only ever gave them two or three laps of run in, I’ve never blown one due not running in. “Loose” engines are fast engines. When you first run her up you will probably see some smoke coming off the engine due oil residue on parts this is normal so don’t panic, just keep an eye out for leaks. This is my take Porsche specialists ( I’m not ) may say different
I always look forward to your videos you have taught me a lot about my engine.
