Amesie's Automotive Corner - Unfortunately :/ I had a next door neighbor who had 2-3 911's at any given time, loved sitting in it when my neither and I would babysit their kids, he gave us a few spirited rides in it (and once - only once! - we started it up and just sat in it in the garage, put no miles on it, but the first thing he did when he got home was checked if it was warm - BUSTED! 😄). I watched their values closely, can't very close to being able to buy one, then had my spine broken in a car accident (a girl who was texting and driving drove right through me at a red light, wrecking both me and my car!), was unable to work for over two years, evaporating any chance I had of getting one. Watched the prices shoot out of range within a year, no thanks to certain idiots advertising then ask over KZread. No real fan world do such a thing, I'm convinced that guys had warehouses full of them - or were bankrolled by someone who did - and intentionally drove up the prices in order to flip their inventory for a handsome profit 😠

+StopMoColardo Nobody is sitting on them. The reason why they are getting so expensive is because the demand is increasing but the supply is not. It is just simple economics. Nobody makes cars like that anymore. Today it is all about Turbos and performance sheets and putting your foot to the board and thinking you are king because of that while the computer does all the driving.

So true... very sad for those of us who kept postponing a purchase. I kept passing up great cars...in the 90’s, the 2000’s...and now it’s too late😢 I feel like such a fool for waiting. I came sooo close in 2006.... founded a PERFECT SC with an RS retro build that was gorgeous. A beautiful driver for less than $20k. I saw a very similar car recently for more than $65k.... it’s a game I have lost. I just cannot bring myself to spend to $40k on a car I’m going to have to spend another $20k on getting it sorted into the driver I want.

These are just fantastic vehicles to own, care - for, and especially drive like you mean it. The 2.7 Litre 911S has plenty of power to allow you to really feel & build your skills & confidence level. Thank you for your comprehensive look over to point out future corrosion areas. Also I would recommend that having the front windshield & gasket also removed and inspected by a well qualified technician for any corrosion & possibly rust while replacing the very affordable rubber gasket/insulation with new material & maybe even get some new chrome gasket hardware inserts to keep all the chrome accessories polished & looking new and be sure to regularly clean, polish and examine any & all window rubber and insulation. These are not very difficult and/or overly time-consuming maintenance items but I guarantee you'll be pleased at the overall appearance when you keep these items well maintainened and this will allow you to feel confident that there is no water sneaking in and allowing any future corrosion and rust from setting up camp beneath where the front and rear windshields and side windows set. An easy test for water intrusions is easily accomplished by listening for air making its way in while cruising on the quiet, less crowded back roads. Happy Motoring to you all.

Ooh to have one!! Especially the Targa version. Good to hear those are good for the daily driver alongside the E. Not that there's anything wrong with the fastback design of the original but I seem to prefer the Targa nowadays.

Many years ago I passed up buying a 911S because of its condition. It was one of those cars that was not well maintained and you could feel it when driving it, very loose, rotten idle, rust etc. It was $5000. That same car today would fetch 100,000, probably. The Porsche market has gone crazy, especially the 356 models which can go for as much as $500,000. The 911 is a better car from a performance standpoint...for me at least.

the video would have been more beneficial if he would have spoken about the differences between the 4 different models. The pros and cons of each and what each of the 4 models offered its potential buyers!

Nice video, and thank you for the advice, it is very valuable. The tail becomes happy in a 911 not when you go fast in a corner, it is when you break or downshift before the corner and suddenly turn, the car either spins, or the tail goes sideways, what a good driver is supposed to do at that point is mash the gas pedal, gain traction, and take off like a rocket!

Me too! The 964 is fantastic. I owned an 87 3.2. I want another air-cooled and preferably a 964. Tremendous in every way. The 3.2's are wonderful too. Especially 87-89 with the G-50 tranny. Good luck mate.

Great video and great sounding engine. Chances of finding an unrestored pre 74 Porsche with zero rust is surely close to zero. All the cars I have ever seen have either been restored or are rust buckets with a ton of filler... I bought a 69 car - looked good but once the paint came off the only parts with no rust were the roof and the front lid ! Buyer beware !

I had a 1972 2.4S for a couple of years. That engine at 6000rpm was the highlight for sure. tbh though apart from that , the early S cars are peaky and the rear weight bias, even with a full tank of fuel, was always felt. I drive a short wheel base 912 now with a very strong andy prill motor: 44idfs , elgin cam etc. Lighter and better balanced than my 2.4S and even the RS I drove at goodwood. Better steering feel too. leave the S to the investors and go grab a swb 912 while you still can :)

First thing first:take your keys, and have a smile or a grin if you are in playful mood. Then go to your 911, with a greater smile or grin. Enter, there's smell of leather and oil. Start it. Warm it on the first minutes driving. Then unleash your evil side, pilot it and enjoy it!

People are going to call bullshit. Im 23 and found one in a field today. The next 4 plus years of my life outside school are going to be governed by how i best gain trust of the owner and get it for something i can actually afford. It could be a 912 too, but if i walked straight to it right after meeting the guy its game over.

Depending on where you look anything between 50.000 to 150.000 Grand. Hard to say what the difference is made of, although I would assume a large chunk of it is just "investor" provision. Like, oh they gained so much value so buy this overpriced classic now, because in 5 years it will even be more overpriced. If there is a bubble somewhere in the investor market right now, be it stocks or real estate or cars, it is definetely cars. If I recall correctly you could get some pretty good deals in 2008...

I bought a silver 1971 911S in 1974. I only had it for a year but I almost killed myself a couple of times in it. I got that car up to 155 mph on GA 400. I wish I could have kept it. It would probably be worth 150K today.

I owned a 1985 Turbo Targa. Great car but slower than my GTR R35.The early 911's are silly money now.

Beautiful car but this was anything but a Buyer's Guide. A review perhaps. And the one part that may have almost been buyer's guide regarding the matching numbers not mattering has me scratching my head. 🤔

Since you are out in CA and it's easy ton put on the miles it would be wise to get the oil pressure timing chain tensioner upgrade and keep that very expensive and precisely built engine in top tune and running condition. Also you may want to consider purchasing the tear-off front windshield protectors especially if your in a sandy area. (Just like the NASCAR crewmen pull off the plastic like windshield covers as the car is about to drive off)

I wish this could be my first car LOL...

Nice video even if he pronounces it wrong as owners get after people like that.. I just was popping around as I have a 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa which I tend to favor over my 87 Porsche 944 turbo or my 85 Porsche 928S as they all have gone up in value and even got to keep All my toys during my divorce but she drives a minivan so obviously she doesn't know cars.

Best car I've ever owned although truth is that any S-series are no good for every day driving in city traffic

Steed agreed. the 2.4E was better. The S was for driving to the track, racing, then driving home again

I just really do not like the newer cars. They’ve become so....LARGE. So heavy. And so much of the character of the earlier, aircooled cars has been bleached out.

I could had bought one in the 80's for 12,000 dollars. Now forget it the small bumper cars are very expensive and you need to be a millionaire to buy a good S model. I should had bought the car a long time ago. Oh well one of my many mistakes in life.

Danny please......it's pronounced Por-sha....In German each letter of each word is pronounced and it is pronounced the same way each time. Not as in English where there are exceptions in pronunciation throughout the language. Heck, even Chevrolet is pronounced as in French as Chev-row-lay and not Chev-row- let.....so please, all Porsche lovers...say it correctly to honour Ferdinand Porsche and his wonderful machines! Interesting video though it appears that there is a considerable number of "car fans" more interested in pronunciation than content. How dull life is for them. For what it's worth , pretty much nobody outside of Germany says PorSHUH! apart from OTT Americans trying to shove their wrongly assumed haute style down everybody's throats. So if you're one of those PorSHUH! verbal tick fanatics, then "meh, just grow up!"

A so called "expert" who cannot pronounce a name correctly should not be trusted. It's like a sommelier who mispronounces the name of a legendary vineyard or wine , anyone who knows anything about wine will know the "expert" is a poser, and probably doesn't know as much about the subject as he claims he does.

You are like 100 people commenting on this. Do you have anything valuable to add? You are just repeating and repeating. Who cares how it is pronounced. I can have some afghan work on my porsche- if he does a great job I dont care if he calls it "camel".

You would think that the "Editor" of a Magazine about classic cars would be able to pronounce Porsche correctly :(

Not sure why you want want an old car as a daily driver. You can get new cars (especially for the price of a classic 911) that are enjoyable to drive that are much safer, which is what you likely want unless you dont hang on to your life much. A manual classic 911 as a daily commuter car will especially be a pain in the ass and likely very dangerous. Either you're stopping and going a lot or you have a clear road and will probably speed. Do your family a favor and try not to die on the road because you cant resist the urge to daily a 40 year old 911.

Learn to pronounce the name properly.

The matching numbers are critical for the purest and value of a Porsche, your comment about it not mattering shows your complete lack of knowledge and have probably never owned one or spun out.

He likely knows more about Porsche than you. With the rising prices all 911 in good shape will continue to gain plenty value. Matching numbers may be important to some snobby investors who never drive their car. The rest will enjoy well working classic 911 they can drive once in a while without being scared something breaks. You missed the point of this clip: He says what to look for to get a good working 911. Not how to invest your money for maximum value- which by the way no one can for sure. Since the best of the best models already are closer to a ceiling, if there is one, the ones that so far werent on the purest collector's radar will be soon. That is why the 996 rose in value even though they produced almost 200.000 of them and they arent much liked.

Dude cannot even pronounce Porsche correctly. Sad.
