Bought signs from Hobby Lobby and antique dealers, as long as the prices are in line and they look cool on the wall is all that matters. BTW I love the Oldsmobile neon, gotta be worth some bucks. Thanks for sharing.

There's a lot of fake stuff on EBay. I feel like telling them that they are bidding on junk, but unfortunately there is no way to contact the seller. I've bought some and you start to learn quick that if the price is too good to be true, more than likely it's a fake. Plus look at the content on the sign. Somehow I don't think there were many signs in back in the day with scantily clad women on them. Thanks for the advice on real vs. fake.

You can contact the seller. There is a button down near their name that literally says "contact seller". It isn't new. It's always been there.

Another thing to do when questioning whether a sign is fake or not on eBay is to see what else the seller has listed. If the seller has a whole bunch of unusual, rare porcelain-enamel signs then there's a very good chance he or she is pushing reproductions to represent the real thing. Yes, you can contact the seller, but why do it as that person will probably just ignore you. "Happy Motoring!"

"I would rather buy a sign with a few chips because there's a pretty good chance I'm getting a real sign". This is misleading. People who artificially age these signs put all kinds of random chips on a porcelain sign to suggest authentic age. And they do this at all levels...light aging all the way to extreme aging. Chips in a sign are no indicator of authenticity or age....other factors have to be considered. Also, new reproductions are made with straight crisp lines and artwork. Again, this may rule out some signs (to prove a fake) but not all. It is getting really hard to tell in some cases.

Just picked a porcelain sign up from antique shop for 25 bucks. It’s a Texaco sign just not sure if it’s real or not. It’s in mint condition that’s what makes me think it’s not real

Thank you for the video. I'm a newer collector. I just purchased a large Red Top Beer sign. I'm not sure if it's a reproduction or not. I'd really appreciate your opinion if you have the time.

I guess another clue that it's real could be if it isn't flat or it's been dropped on its edge and dinged. I could live with that damage.

I disagree with his points. Fake signs can have no damage to tons of damage in various areas. Fake signs can also have very straight or wavy lines and real ones are the same... yes most signs have straight lines but not all of them. There's way better ways to determine if a sign is real or not, these are not them in my opinion.

Enjoyed watching your stream. I've been collecting porcelain tobacco/cigar and cigarette signs for over 40 years. I only collect pre1930. The old ones either have an all white or black and white runs on the back side. The ones that are solid shiny black are usually very new or reproductions. Secondly, the old ones always have a manufacturer or company name at the bottom edge,Would d you agree with this statement? You mentioned edge chipping to make a porcelain sign look old. I would definitely agree with this. I've been buying cigarettes porcelain signs on ebay from the UK. The shipping is very pricey but the signs are really nice and old. Thank you for your time
