There was a slang expression that was used before my time (1930s). "As long as you're working for Uncle Sam you don't have to take it on the lam". There was also a New York expression. "There are only two kinds of places in the world. New York and other places."

Awesome lesson! I found it very useful. I'm having exams at college the next three weeks, so I might say that I've been cramming for them. Btw, I have an American friend who lives in Washington DC and she visited me last year. She taught me a very useful phrasal verb which is "to flake out on". We were talking about dates gone wrong and guys who would never show up for a date. Then she used this phrasal verb to say "Girl, I'll never flake out on you." She meant to say that she'd never disappoint me, she'd never fail to keep a promise, she'd always stick to her word, she'd never cancel plans with me at last minute or without previous notice. I was glad to know that because I'm kind of distrustful of people who make promises and never keep them.

Shocked. I always thought Bae was some sort of short for Babe. Awesome. Also, I believe Dude went on to be acceptable for all genders, females too. I think now it's essentially used for any platonic non romantic but close friendship.

sort of.. in my world of the east coast millennial, "dude" is never used to refer to a female, although sometimes it will be used before saying something for emphasis. E.g. "dude, that is so not cool" or "man, I couldn't believe they did that" could be directed at a female, but even then not that often. I wonder if it's different in Cali

American slang allows us to have a closer communication with people from all over the world, there we find expressions that are very particular to their language and expressions that can become strange when we are sharing with English speakers. For these cases there are a series of adjectives and verbs that we can use constantly or as the conversation progresses.

awesome, dude ! these are some slang phrases i picked up in California " don't get it twisted "- to not misinterpret information A: I saw my girlfriend walking with another guy, I think she's cheating on me. B: Don't get it twisted, that's her brother. " hands down "-without any doubt; extremely sure about something; usually used to emphasize likes and dislikes This restaurant is way better than the one we went last time, hands down. This video is the best, hands down! A:- I saw him rob the girl's phone B:- Are you sure? A:- I know it was him, hands down

And people from the south get offended if you call them Yankees or yankes because the Yankees were the Union soldiers. Southerners, people from the southern states of the US use Yankees to describe them. Normally we use our state to describe ourselves. I’m Californian-from California, or I’m a New Yorker- from New York, Floridian- Florida, Texan- from Texas etc.
