Euphemisms That Native Speakers Use All the Time
ABOUT THE LESSON 📚
Euphemisms are great. And let me tell you why. If you don't want to say something because it's too direct, rude, or even embarrassing, you should use a euphemism instead. They're more polite, pleasant, and even fun to say. Not to mention, native speakers use them all the time. So if you don't want to be jerk, then it's usually better to use a euphemism to get your point across.
Here's a list of the euphemisms...
1) to be let go (from a job)
2) to be between jobs
3) have to go number one
4) have to go number two
5) to do some business
6) powder one's nose
7) big-boned
8) love handles
9) make love
10) to lose one's lunch
11) not the sharpest tool in the shed
12) pass away
13) kick the bucket

Powder my nose can also mean they want to touch up their lipstick and make-up after they eat. Many people have been taught it is rude to do that at the table.
Another great and funny euphemism about going to the bathroom is “I have to see a man about a horse”.😂

As far as I remember "to have to see a man about a horse/a dog" means that you simply wants/have to leave the room or smrth like this. You could be bored or you r not intrested in it. And you just want to go away from a party/concert/smb's speech. Not necessarily "toilet". Correct me if I'm wrong.

@@jon_patterson , that's not really a euphemism. It's the opposite because once you figure it out, it evokes ... imagery. I think it's a way of pretending to use a euphemism in order to intentionally be crude for amusement.
This was a f a n t a s t i c lesson, Wes... absolutely made my day!🌹 I was laughing out so loud, that my husband got curious, what I was doing (happens not too often). I love, love, love the English language for its euphemisms, they make conversation so much easier! Btw. your "make love" statement is really captivating... 😉 P.S. Please more of this kind. 🙏 P.P.S. I have to powder my nose now. 😊

Such a fabulous English lesson! And just a quick question if you don't mind me asking, I heard you saying: a euphemism, so that doesn't follow the rule of putting "an" before a word that starts with a vowel. By the way I had a lot fun while I was watching this video, you rock Wes!! Greetings from El Salvador.
Thank you so much. This video is so informative. Is there any euphemism for 'having the runs'? Or having the runs itself is an euphemism? I think another scenario that people need to use euphemism is describing diseases in different body parts. For instance, ladys' PMS issue. What about making one more euphemism video about illness if a certain amount of illness ( or mental illness ) euphemism can be collected? Thank you again! Muchas gracias! 谢谢! ありがとう!

You are the Best Wes! Thank you very much for all hard works and meticulous video lessons! (not to mention, you taught me what METICULOUS means). I just used some the Euphemisms in a short story. Please check out. We had to let X go, he has not been productive for almost two months; we had no other choice, but to fire him. We will not lose anything; he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, and he has never got into the swing of things. X’s behavior has gradually changed after his dad passed away and it resulted to become a big-boned guy and having larger love handles. Prior to his dad’s death, his mom kicked the bucket while she allegedly had been making love in the elevator. Don’t be surprised, it’s possible dude😊 According to some unknown resources, X’s parent had have lunch in a restaurant, where his mom makes an excuse to powder her nose, but later it discovers that she just made phony excuse to see the guy in the elevator.
