Thank you! I've seen these folks tables sold everywhere and heard crazy stories about them on forums. They look nice in person and I never knew what was true or false about them. Really appreciate the time.

Recently purchased 9' Coronado. Went to the factory showroom. Did not customize anything except cloth. Wood grain beautiful all over. The closest Ohlhausen table is the Huntington. Retail for 9' Huntington approx. $1000 over what I paid (Buffalo, Triangle).

As I said in the video, I think Golden West tables are nice. My main problem is with their website and the lack of functionality with it. It doesn't set well with me when a company wants all my information before they'll even give me a price on one of their products. Hope you enjoy your table. It should provide you with decades of joy and entertainment!

@@CreativeRestorations I don' t disagree with you about the their odd web pricing choice. I was only 60 miles away, so I could snoop in person and wander into the factory. Most people can't do that. Just wanted to provide one recent example.

This table in the video is Golden West economy or kid's table. They have real tables that are 100% solid wood. I purchased one from them with hand carved side rails. Top rails have pearl diamonds inlayed in African hard wood that is supposably harder than oak can't remember the name of it. 3 piece blueprinted slate. I have had the table since 1983 and still plays fantastic love it. You can't go wrong with one for family holidays it gets used non stop I wake up in the morning kids still playing.

Thanks Doug … I purchased my Goldenwest back in the 90s with Oak rails , from your review…spot on , the sloppy over spray was not an issue with mine , through your guidance I reclothed table and rails this year , thank you ! Doug I wanted to ask you , when I reclothed my table , the slate bed that my slate sits on ,did not match up flush to the slate as you show on your video . Making it difficult to staple the pockets especially the sides , It begs the question have you seen this before ? Thank you Doug

Thank you very much. I tried to be fair with my assessment of the table, the construction, and their website. They do make a decent table. I just think they could use a bit of constructive criticism. I haven't really had that issue with stapling the pockets. I would check to make sure that the slate is on the frame correctly and square to the frame. Take a tape measure and double-check your distance between the edge of the slate to the frame. Side to side should read the same all the way down the length of the table. And, the two ends should read the same. If all of your measurements are correct, then, you shouldn't have any issues.

@@CreativeRestorations quite simply Doug after I asked you ..it’s the contours of the pockets on the slate bed don’t match the slate cutouts on the slate . You don’t have to respond ..feel free to though …but ya…nothing even close to your video showing everything flush and wonderful … slate bed to slate profile.. Thanks Doug

Had a 7 foot Golden West 1" three piece slate. out in the garage for 8 years held up in the wet cold PNW. and hot summers. Stayed level. Even using it as a base for ping pong table. Project table. Laundry folding table. Replaced the felt twice bye Golden West installers. There shop is close to me. Portland Oregon. Big building's overwhelming the amount of tables they must make. Mine 25 years ago was 1,380.00 Balls, rack, 4 cues, 1 bridge, brush, box of chalk, set up, delivered. Looked liked the one in your video

Doug: Thank you for looking at Golden West. I am debating about buying a new table from them...but also considering other new and used tables. As my installation would be in a basement, I was wondering if all Brunswick "furniture tables" from the 70s/80s/90s have knockdown construction?

I'd personally stay away from anything Brunswick made in the 70's to the late 80's. Brunswick cut a LOT of corners during that time period.

Interesting, but I guess not all that surprising. I have also looked some at Brunswick antique tables from 1930 and earlier. How does one discern the value of these older unrestored/partially restored tables? Fully restored, it seems like even the plainest models are north of $8000.

Antique tables can get very expensive. There are a couple of places that I would trust in the country to do a fair estimate on antique tables. I wouldn't be one of them though. Although I know how to do the restorations, I don't specialize in buying and selling them. So, I don't see the price tags for those antique tables. I can say this... There are several factors that go into the price of an antique table. 1) How many of that model were made? 2) How many were made in that species of wood? 3) How many were made in that species of wood in that size table? 4) Cost to do a full restoration? 5) How desirable is the table? There are lots of antique tables floating around out there that aren't even worth doing the restoration on. At least, not at this time. It isn't uncommon for a restoration to run north of $6,000 to $10,000 or more. I'll give you an example. Let's say you've got an 8' Brunswick Aviator table in mahogany. VERY common antique table. It needs a full restoration that will cost approximately $7,000. You buy it for $2,000. You'll be into it for over $9,000. That table is only worth about $12,000 on a REALLY good day. And, that's assuming that the restoration was done flawlessly and you've got a buyer that's willing to pay $12k for a really common antique table. Chances are, you'd only get $8k-9k for that table. Now, 20 years from now, the market could be totally different. That same restored table may skyrocket in price. But, that's a gamble. And historically, that hasn't happened. Hope this explains it. Doug

@@CreativeRestorations Great info, thank you. Definitely does not make me want to go out and invest in an old table just because it is old, that is for sure. It would seem like messing with these aged tables makes sense only if you stumble across a table that is super rare or if you just inherited an antique table that you are willing to take your time on restoring with the intent of enjoying yourself at some point.

I sure wish you were located up here in Washington state. I'm about to buy my first table. I'm seriously considering a used GoldenWest table for $2k. What should I expect to pay for a professional to move and set up the table? 1st floor to first floor(my finished garage). Thank you so much for your videos! I have learned a ton!

Thank you! It's hard to give a price for moving a table unless it's in my area. I know that prices can vary greatly across the country. I would just call around. Don't go with the cheapest. And DEFINITELY don't go with the most expensive! Once you've called several places, you should get a feel for what you should be paying.
