My vet told me my Dachshund and Chihuahua should not have beef chew sticks, so I purchase them pig ears, and they love them and keep their teeth really clean.

second the pig ears, they are incredible. I have a 1.5yo min pin who seemed to be a big chewer for the first 8 months or so, even after all the adult teeth grew up. then at some point he just couldn't be bothered with chewing through anything thicker than cardboard. we tried dried tendons but he began to swallow big chunks without chewing and then threw them up in the middle of the night. so as a last resort (because he still clearly likes to chew on some lighter stuff) I bought some dried pig ears, and voila. if they're too hard I just soak then in hot water for 5min and we're good to go. he tires himself out and then takes a nap and I can keep working in peace.

Soaking them is a really good idea for an older dog with chewing challenges. I will try that for my 16 year old dog, she’s practically toothless now.
