Why? They’re big. They’re relevant. They’re making good music. Fantano is more clued up on various music scenes and their outputs then you are. You treat him like a naive child who couldn’t possibly approach something just because YOU know about it and most people in your public life don’t. Your “bless” is so pretentiously obnoxious. Get your snobbish attitude away from here you cretinous globular waste of skeletal mass. The day the sun expands and destroys the solar system thus destroying the essence of your very existence will be a great day.

Kinda sad but it says a lot about how great of a year for music this has been.

He's already said before that he doesn't like shred music so he didn't like Chon. He also doesn't seem to like what a lot of people call "musician's music". Typically bands like Chon, Periphery, Animals As Leaders, or Meshuggah are all rock bands that are highly praised by other musicians which explains why he doesn't like any them. It's also why he got a lot of shit for disliking Hiatus Kaiote's most recent album which is pretty much considered a modern day classic to musicians. You can find kids all over the world in music schools that are covering Hiatus Kaiote and Dirty Loops songs. And yet, the Melon doesn't care for them. It's a gap in his musical pallet. So I wouldnt trust Melon for reviews in these scenes.

YES MELON I've been a fan of Polyphia for a little while now and like their old sound, but holy shit is this new album amazing. Definitely their best work and they've really carved out a sound for themselves. So many cool math rock elements and even mixing them with some jazz fusion-y sounds? Yes please. I'd probably give this a light 9 myself. I wasn't expecting something this intricate and fresh from them, even though I liked their other stuff. They really outdid themselves.

There's a whole scene of funky math rock rnbcore spawned from Dance Gavin Dance and their former members' current math rock-oriented projects; Strawberry Girls, Kurt Travis, Eternity Forever. Lots of cool stuff. Andrés is another really good one. Amarionette, Cat Company, Dwellings, Coletta, Sincerely, Pulses., and In Angles are similar but fall more in the 'swancore' microgenre (though Amari are moving more towards straightforward funk rock now).

AJ That’s kinda sad to hear. Didn’t know he hated it that much. AAL seems to be one of those bands where you either like them or you don’t. My best friend and I are musicians, and we’re totally split on AAL. I love them because of their technicality and interesting compositions, and he hates them for those reasons, in that he’s not really into technical music like I am. I’ve met a lot of people who don’t like bands like AAL because they see them as serving themselves and inflating their egos by being overly technical, and that’s a hard pill swallow. I do get what they mean, but you’re suppose to be doing music for yourself anyway, so why not go all out if you want to? Why have this attitude of treating shred guys (or in Fantano’s case more precise shred guys) like they’re losing musical integrity? At least that’s how I see it, but then again I’m a shred guy myself.

@@blueorpheus5693 I can relate. I'm in the other side of the spectrum though as I don't really like AAL that much because being technical is boring to me. I absolutely love this album. Really pleasantly suprised that you gave it an 8. That'd probably be my rating as well. For me personally, the track 'Bad' is the worst on the album. It's not terrible by any means but it's just much more forgettable than the others. The best ones are easily 'O.D.', 'Drown' and 'Saucy'. The way that bass kicks in on Saucy just instantly pulls you into the groove. It kind of has an old school hip hop kinda vibe imo.
