    You'd be surprised how much guitar is still being used in modern music. It was dead between 2011 and 2016, but in recent years it's making a full return. A lot of modern songs now feature guitar melodies etc. It's just, everything sounds so "safe" and pristine and that's why I have great dislike for 90% of the music on the radio (at least on top charts radio stations).

    Brandon Gordon Yeah, I've seen it...and yes they stepped up the drums & bass a bit. Look, my problem with Polyphia doesn't lie with their talents. There's no doubt that they have mastered their instruments. The problem is the songwriting. They use similar patterns in pretty much all of their songs. When I hear their music it just sounds like one guitar solo after the next for like 4 minutes. Their music sort of lacks substance, its pretty much just flashy melodies and streamlined production so it gets boring pretty quickly. Instead of being a dick about it, you could just disregard my opinion, just like I will with yours.

    These dudes are badass!!! I heard them for the first time last night in my self-defense class. I was hooked from the very first song. During a break, I asked my Instructor, "WHO is THIS?" He told me and sent me a link to G.O.A.T., which I listened to when I got home. Right now, I'm working from home. So instead of playing my usual variety of playlists, I'm checking out Polyphia here on youtube and I'm just blown away. When listening to them, I can't help but think back to the days when I would immerse myself in some Steve Vai. He was making sounds on a guitar that I had never heard before. The kinds of sounds that make you smile and squeeze your eyes shut, crinkle your nose, and with a sharp head nod, make you say, "DAMN!" These guys make me do the exact same thing. I only wish that I had found them sooner. Four albums in? Where in the hell have I been? Truly, love at first listen.

    True, but do keep in mind that Ichika still had a musical background, he played bass and other instruments so he wasn't a complete beginner at music. If you already can play one instrument you can learn others in a relatively shorter amount of time because the foundation and finger dexterity has already been built. But yes it is incredible.

    But I can't be the only who thinks it's a little odd that, despite the numerous guitar playthrough videos they have, the first music they do, they don't even bother to include the bassist or the drummer? As a guitar player, I'm all for it, but a great band (such as Polyphia) is not JUST about one or two members. Everyone contributes to the sound. Otherwise, it'd just be repetitive and boring.

    I've been wondering, my whole life, what it would sound like, if a bunch of metalheads just took their insanely fast and just plain insane skills and made fucking melodic songs that combine a whole bunch of shit, jazz, dubstep, drum n bass and who knows what other shit, that it would just become "mainstream", while maintaining that insane undeniable power that metal music always had, at least in my mind! I am happy to report that I ain't wondering no more! I've been listening for weeks now, going through all the songs and shit, and I can just say, THIS IS INASNE lol The transformation and changes are undeniable over the time, but all the songs just have that SHIT that makes your spine stingy, no matter the style, genre or anything! So happy I discovered this band!

    Tyler Massey You'll realize later on ....if you know pentatonic scales, that is actually a huge asset. The difference between pentatonic scale and the major scale (and it's modes) is only two notes. you can literally get a major scale from a pentatonic even just by bending certain notes in the pentatonic. You can hear these guys do some pentatonic ideas from time to time, too. (quite a bit in this song too, especially during the "bluesy" sounding licks near the end.).

    ***** Thanks that's good to know :) my main problem as of now is just music theory because all I did for 2 years was cover songs without knowing the first thing about what I was playing. any tips on what I should start of learning?

  • @natemantle5933

    @natemantle5933

    8 жыл бұрын

    Tyler Massey If you can go back and apply some theory to the songs you have learned already, that might be really cool. Like for example, search up a song you know and find out what key it's in, and what chords and how they "function" in the key, what the progressions is (e.g. 1, 6,2, 5) and what scales work over those chords. That way, you can have a better understanding of every song you play. Also, if you don't know the notes on your fretboard, I suggest trying to learn the notes on the fretboard (you can even use the songs you have already learned).

    I love Polyphia, I love Ego Death for obvious reasons. I'm open minded about all guitar music, but, I have just watched Gary Moore, The Loner@ Stockholm 1987. That just blew me away for speed, technique, but most of all feel and emotion. Something some music is missing nowadays.

    Found them 8 years after this video was released and coming back to this... just a bit shocked at the lack of tats, hair, and the rich-partyer look! Amazing playing as always. Love the shot where you can see both sets of hands.

    My fiance and I came across y'all's band a couple months ago and we were so lucky to find your CD at our local Hastings store (from my understanding, your CD is rare but forgive me if I'm wrong). I can't put into words how much we love your music, especially this song. Like seriously, you guys are amazing. Keep up the good work!

    After 7 years, do you still have the CD? And what do you think of Polyphia's new stuff? Specifically, what do you think of the songs Playing God and Ego Death?

    @@Yukeenathey probably dont really mind it but dont care for it either, theres a lot of animosity between super old polyphia fans and new ones for some reason Ive seen the worst kinds of hipsters in my life on the polyphia subreddit and my friends experienced having conversations with some unfortunately lol

    0:30 and 2:12 best moments. First one is so groovy. Second is like electricity running through your body so melodic also crazy. Song is amazing all the way through though.
