Polo 6R 1.6 TDI service - Changing engine oil

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A short but detailed video showing how to change the engine oil on the 1.6 TDI engine of the Polo. Out of curiosity, I had attached a neodymium magnet to the head of the drain plug bolt to see if the threads would attract any ferrous particles from the oil. But nope, nothing came out of it. In another clip, I will dip the magnet in the container with the old engine oil and see if it attracts anything.
Parts used*:
1. Engine Oil** - 5W40, 4.3L
2. Drain Plug*** - N90813202
*OE part number indicated. Equivalent aftermarket part may be used after checking compatibility.
**Fully synthetic engine oil meeting 505 01 spec preferred.
***Drain plug may be reused from older stock if available and if the threads are intact.
Do this at home! And let me know if you have any queries. Would be glad to answer them. :)

Thank you! This is how it should be done. My mechanic filled 4.7l instead of 4.3l in my 2.0 tdi ☹️. Fortunately nothing bad happened

Thank you for the feedback Thomas. A bit more doesn’t hurt but 400 - 500 mL is on the higher side! Glad it didn’t cause any damage to the block. How did you realise that the oil was overfilled? Did you check using the dipstick or were there other telltale signs?

@@GaneshBalan Thanks for the reply Gannu. I gave them 4L +1L bottles. Only 300ml was left in the 1L bottle when they gave it back to me. Dip stick shows oil way above the max mark up until the groove . My car doesn't consume any oil. So it has been like this for the past 8 months. Hopefully nothing bad will happen.

Hello Ganesh! Been using esp 5w30 Mobil1 for my 1.2 TDi to adhere to VW 507 specification. Since you are using Mobil1 5w40 which only complies to VW 505 create any issues?

Hi Akash, I’ve stuck to 5W40 since the first oil change so no changes to the SAE grade there. You can try 5W40 next time - won’t make much of a discernible difference.

Great videos Ganesh...how's the feedback of Mobil oil v/s Liqui Moly Toptec...any difference you could make out? Wonderful to see the way you take care of your car 👍

Thanks Desmond. From all the engine oil changes I’ve done so far, the perceivable differences in the smoothness of the engine idling and while driving are felt only for the first few drives. Beyond which it becomes the usual way. Both the Mobil and Liqui Moly TopTec are great oils. The Mobil is a whole lot cheaper in comparison and I would recommend it.

Stick to known and trusted brands like Castrol, Shell, Mobil, Pennzoil etc for engine oils. They do a lot of R&D, have been in the engine oil industry for a long time and manufacture them.

  • @GaneshBalan

Most VWAG engines have this oil consumption issue so don’t really fret unless the consumption is alarmingly high. It consumes approx. litre for every 5-6k km. But this largely depends on how much the engine has run and the usage patterns.
