Politics without respect for international law risks to be criminal | Centre Stage

In this episode of Centre Stage, our guest is UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese. She is an international lawyer with a focus on human rights, migration and the displacement of refugees.
Albanese has been vocal and critical of Israel and its partners. Her assessments are blunt. And when describing Israel's actions in war, she does not hold back.
Rawaa Auge is a presenter at Al Jazeera Digital.

They are doing exactly what the Allies were doing in WWII - "derogations from rules protecting civilians are admissible in some circumstances in international humanitarian law, and several of its rules allow exceptions for reasons of military necessity or security."

@markhaith4720 Do you mean the history of what's listed here, or the history from the beginning, of how it came to be? Or anything specific? There are mountains of material, so im not sure where to point you, so much behind what led up to it too. imo you need to go back to Baulfort at least, and get a basic understanding of that, and then some crucial points thereafter, to wholly take in those things, its very heavy reading. Not heavy as in complicated, just tough on the psyche, and I think a quick background helps with that feeling in a way. Cause you'll have referencpoints, and tools to know where to look if yiu need more info Since you're commenting on this list of attacks, there's an Israeli docu called Tantura, named after the village massacred by the army - the army tthat went from a mash up of actual terrorcells, to the israeli army over night - after the israeli state was declared. A masssacre of villagers who had surrended and accepted the partition, and the state of israel, they were unarmed. its a good start cause I think its good for further reading, to have an undsrstanding of Israeli society, their mentality and the lenghts they go to, - no lie is too small fir them to double down on, that is what makes this sound unclear, if yiu dont kniw they double. Down on, cause they could destroy decades of their own propaganda with one of those, its sometimes diwn right stupid and like pointing a pipe to their own head really. this massacre it depicts, isnt the worst massacre by far, but the story of it unveils some very needed facts about Israel- good to have when going into the rest, cause its inconceivably horrific and baffling in many parts. You'll probably feel betrayed by what you were told, or at least I did - and my Country could be the most transparent on this earth. But I could point you to material if you want to read about anything specific? Nothing on the list above is disputed, except for insignificant pretend debate on if it was 530, 259 or 499 villages, to entertain Israels crying. Things like that , throughout - and you can come across biased descriptions of facts, mainly "small" things depending on the lyalties of the authors- but you'll be able to factcheck those quickly against the many objective sources out there. None of this did go down the way you've probably heard it did - the facts are there in my country, but it's very very dishonestly laid out. Like the skipping certain points completely without comment, and heavily describing others. I can imagine the facts aren't readily available to you at all, if you're American? Or they're there, this is documented thoroughly, inside and out. In part due to israels impunity, they violate afreements and law, even if never gerting punished , and those things are ducumented quite extensivly -- but I imagine they don't point in that direction. There's is vast material from current events too, the reports are open and available. The legal parts aswell. But if you wanna start somewhere with this list, I recommend Tantura, it should be on KZread- its a good introduction to the Nakba, it had been ongoing, but I think thatd be a good start, and then yiu can rewind, or press forward from there. Hope that was at least in part helpful, let me know if you need any help, and I'll help you to the best of my abilities, within my limitations 😊

Because technically Israel only has occupied since 1967 bc 1948 was a legitimate legal right for them to make it their own state but the way they did it not so much and even taking even more land from what the UN partition plan held. But the very last Palestinian Territories remained which was all part of the UN partition plan but some other land was taken ppl say they wanted to take all of it, but then in 1967 they did wheee now they r seen as an occupying power. They want a two state solution, because of the UN’s partition vote and all of that stuff

It’s business as usual in the Arab world AND the West. It’s unconscionable. She’s right. Turkey’s pipeline to Israel continues and the Jordan/Saudi ‘land bridge’ to Israel is live. Morocco’ weapons factory features Israeli products and the US and UK enjoy Israeli security intelligence and media integration at levels that make them member states for one another. I don’t see how this gets better for Palestinians. And frankly, I fear the extremism that will bloom from this will make Iraq look small.

I know it's partly due to her job/experience, but I feel like so many people in other high places tiptoe or ignore the Palestinian struggle even before October 7. It is refreshing and invigorating to hear someone say bluntly that what is happening in Palestine is disproportionate and ethnic cleansing. I hope we all continue to fight for Palestine and other places experiencing humanitarian crimes as well. We will only get through this with solidarity and longevity.

I hope this wonderful lady, who speaks so bravely against injustice, stays safe. Salute you, Francesca. Don't let the powerful forces against you shut you down.
