I can understand the Air ride, but this truck was so cheap that it lacks cab air ride, and the rough ride is more likely due to not having cab air bags than the rear leaf springs not being air ride. My truck had air ride for the rear axles, but that was solely to keep the stuff in a dry box happy going down the road, it was the cab air, and the seat air that kept the truck from being a back breaker all the time.

This truck brings back childhood memories for me. My father had one of these CO9670's. He bought it brand new back in 1981. The early models had the International Harvester (IH) badging on the grill, the sides of the cab,and the door handles, before the Navistar International badging that came some years later.
@ 15:47: "I don't want to harm the integrity ...." @ 16:27 "I'm going to be chopping this frame ..." Jesus mate why on EARTH are you stretching that truck? And don't you have laws in the USA about doing that? You have unearthed an absolute gem in original condition and with a history to tell and now you are going to butcher it and make it into precisely what? Get the chassis stripped and painted and rebuild as is. It doesn't need new anything and adding 'Volvo' stuff just makes it worth nothing. Icemen needs a KZread Channel the men got Talented
A trick that is worth trying with damaged fuel tanks is to drop them out, empty them, plug off the various fuel line and vent ports and then use compressed air to re-inflate them. Often they'll just pop back into their original shape due to the memory in the metal of its original pressed shape. It might be a little more awkward on this one with the dent being right at the back where the flange for the joint between the outer skin and the back panel is, but it might be possible to dress that back into shape when the dent is out. Be careful though, with it being on a joint there is a danger that if you work it too much then you could end up cracking the seam and giving yourself a fuel leak when the tank is full... It sounds odd, but I've seen it work well a number of times, including on a Ford Granada estate fuel tank that had collapsed due to the car being run when the tank vent was blocked. The resultant vacuum crushed the tank down to about a quarter of its capacity. Re-inflating it put it back to its original shape and all but half a gallon of its original capacity...
I'm binge watching these videos from the original start up in the weeds up to the polishing vid, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I love seeing old machinery of any kind get lovingly restored to working order. You definitely get 2 thumbs up from me!

It seems you have a former North American Van Lines tractor. In the 80’s they had hundreds of these, all spec’d out the same. More than likely this started out in the New Products division-freight hauling-then moved to household goods division, then sold off at auction,or the o/o may have kept it till paid for,ran it separate from NAVL ,then sold it. Love these old cabovers!

Give that baby her Aluminum wheels and that new road worthy rear axles and get that baby back to hauling! Shoutout to Iceman! He is doing a beautiful job! PS From the truckers I've talked to, they said a shorter wheel base will make backing up with a Dry van or any sort of trailer 10x easier. Keep that in mind if you are planning on pulling trailers with that.
Hello from the UK! I’m loving watching this old semi being brought back to life: Extreme Recycling: rebuild and reuse. If I may offer my two cents: Don’t repaint it. Keep the patina - buff the stripes then lacquer it all till the finish is so deep you could swim in it! Polished wheels will look cool too. And as others have said, don’t stretch it (asking for trouble), just use the Volvo axles - don’t make work for yourself. Spend the time fabricating a monster smoke stack. Ice Man needs his own Channel: each episode he just polished something random till it looks brand new - millions of subscribers waiting for that. Keep doing what you your doing and look forward to seeing how this all pans out! ✌🏼
Love what’s happening here. How about changing them head lights.

Can't change the headlights due to laws in a majority of States, you want it original as you can get it increases in value of you wanted to sell it. Just try and clean up the paint by compounding it and if necessary paint it back the same color combination.
Why make the frame longer? Easier to back up with a shorter frame.

Diesel doesn’t ignite like that. It ignites under compression
that's the best that grille has ever looked!
I drove one of those for Schneider. It was pretty maneuverable. Some docks only had room for one of those so we couldn't use a conventional for those deliveries.
As a former diesel mechanic working for a company at the time was 100% International, I have a LOT of time on the 9670's. In fact, our company had a prototype 9670 before they were released, and while we still were using the 4070b models. One of the things that was on the "new" 9670 and later the 9700 was a sliding tube arrangement that extended the oil fill out from the side access door to fill oil. I assure you that we didn't have to use funnels and extension tubes, nor did our drivers!! You might check and see if your's is still there, and maybe frozen, OR, the last owner removed it. It would be worth doing some research and either getting it working again or installing another one! (BTW -- look for it to rotate clockwise 90 degrees as you're pulling it out. It should be two-piece aluminum with a guide pin.
Us Florida boys ain’t used to this cold😂
Legit one of the coolest things I have ever seen. The man is an expert at his trade!
Thank you for taking care of this truck .
You can easily and cheaply fix the dent in the fuel tank. Make an adaptor to fit i to the filler hole that will take a compressed air line. The slowly build up the pressure and the tank will ‘pop’ back into its original shape! We use this for motor sickle and car tanks. Great job there by Ice Man!

I agree with d mart 360. I have stretched a truck before and we just removed the axle and added frame so that we did not have 2 splices in the rail. If the Volvo frame is the same just cut it to match the angle on the back of the international frame and weld it in. If the frame is not the same you can call P.G. Adams in Vermont and they can ship you the frame rails exactly how you want, that’s who I used and they where very helpful. DONT LET THESE GUYS TELL YOU WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR TRUCK
