Polish Radom P-64 9x18 Makarov Review (HD)
Ойын-сауық
I do a little shooting with the P-64 pistol, disassembly/assembly, a size comparison with a Glock 27 and CZ-82, and a discussion of the pros/cons of this little gun followed by a chronograph test.

I used to have an FEG PA-63 in 9x18 Makarov and I let it get away. Five months ago I picked up another one, a never fired example in .380 ACP. And then I fell down the rabbit hole. Classic had some excellent Circle 10 Bulgarian Makarovs so I picked one up. Then I came across a mint CZ-82 I couldn't pass up. Now I see I am going to need one of these, too. I love these old Com Bloc surplus pistols. They shoot great, are relatively affordable and have soul. Great video.
Just picked one up this afternoon and each new video i watch about it makes me happier and happier i found it. Mine was made in 1971, with some honest wear and the prettiest finish i’ve seen on a surplus gun. Can’t wait to shoot this beastly little piece!
Picked one up today from Classic Firearms! I saw this vid a while back and I'll keep watching it 'til it gets here! Thanks for the great vids!
I "EDC" a P-64 👍😊👍 The Poles made the prettiest finished "comblok" guns!
My grandparents were from Poland so I guess the gun is a good fit for me.
Best review I've seen on this particular gun.
Very professional review, and excellent weapon handling skills... very refreshing. Kudos brother.
Best review on this gun I have ever seen. Thank you.
Thanks for your review! Today, 01-18-19, I grabbed one of these from Classic Firearms for $199.99. They have had them sporadically, and when I saw they had gotten a small shipment in and had only one left I grabbed it, can't wait to try it out! I've wanted one of these for quite a while to add to my "vintage" firearms collection... CZ27, CZ38, CZ50, CZ52, CZ70, CZ82. I also have a 1976 Bulgarian Makarov and a 1960 East German Makarov, as well as a CZ 82, plenty of reasons to stock up on this ammo! Oh, I also just picked up a Yugoslavian Tokarev M57 to go with my CZ52, 7.62 x 25 rocks!
I used to have a Makarov in .380 Cal., and it was as accurate a gun as any I ever fired and believe me I have fired several. I have regretted trading that little beast ever since! it is nice to see them returning to the market place again! You will not be disappointed if you buy one for concealed carry or just to have for fun at the range!
Been 2 years since my last comment and I made it my #1 carry gun in that time. Training with it is a breeze too, the safety is in a perfect location for my hands. I run Hornady Critical Defense in it, and zero hiccups!

Thank you for another excellent video. I've watched a number of your videos, they are succinct and very informative. Keep up the good work!
Sound like it worked as designed---glad to hear it's running well for you.
Anytime. Thanks for watching.
You forgot, this great gun even has a Loaded Chamber Indicator right above the hammer / Polish iron, rubber wrap around grips with finger groves helps soften the recoil!
hello, just wanted to say that i always enjoy watching your vids...thank you.
Glad you were able to snag one. Thanks.
I concur; the weight would be the only real downside vs. modern pocket guns.
Thanks. Welcome to the channel.
Just got mine, have the Wolf spring set too! Will install THEN take it to the range. These are great little pistols.
I've heard that before as well but it seems to be shooter dependent; even with my large hands it doesn't seem to be an issue for me.
Thanks. I'd check with classic firearms as they seem to get them in very consistently. I have a tok---great guns.
Great weapon. Low recoil. Very accurate. Hard to improve on it. Great video!
Agreed on the trigger--I though mine was broken at first...
Solid choices there.
I hope to pick one up soon. I especially appreciate you mentioning the replacement spring setup on your pistol. Thanks!

+Robert G You're welcome!
Thank you. Welcome.
I agree, I got a CZ-82 a couple of months ago (wish I'd ordered two), and just ordered one of these. Wolff springs are on the way too. Nice Video!
I like this gun so much / I have bought 3 of them! It's to bad you can't get Polish Iron grips anymore. I have polished the barrel on all of them. What a great design, this is one of my carry guns. Thanks for another Great Review!!
that field strip was ingenious!
I'm taking my P-64 to the range today, and I will give it a shot. Thanks!
I'll put it on the list; it would actually be a timing video and how springs play a role in that (particularly DA/SA, SAO, or DAO guns)...
excellent review
Glad I could give you some hope!!
Good suggestion. Thanks.
One of, if not the most, accurate gun I own. DA trigger pull was fixed with a Wolff spring. My problem, though, is the slide bite. I end up with a bloody thumb knuckle every time I shoot it, which, for that reason is pretty rare. It rides in a little safe in my car, though, for 'just in case'.
Thinking about buying one. Great info, thanks for the review!
Great quality little pistol for the money! i just bought one too, I also purchased from classic. They do not include a holster like some of the other dealers right now but their p64 pistols have very discreet import marks, small on underside of barrel, which is great. I wish more importers would do this and not put big banner markings on sides of the frame or slide. Great review I will check the wolf spring kit for sure....9x18 ammo I find easily at gun shows

Excellent. I think you'll like it.
Thanks. Will do.
P64resource has a lot of good info. Thanks.
I just ordered the 20lb hammer/22lb recoil spring combo that you recommended in the video. I love this little pistol, and look forward to shooting some cast bullets (Lee mold) using 9mm brass cut to 9x18mm.
Great review! My P64 is my daily.

Nice review! Every time I shoot my P64 it makes me like my CZ-82 even more. I need to do some spring replacement, get a grip sleeve, and polish the Duracoat off the feed ramp. Your video gives me hope for the gun, though.
I just took mine to the range today for the first time (cleaning cosmo & waiting for springs took a while). I was wondering the same thing about the safety / decocker and wanted to test it under "safer" conditions so I didn't load it until I got to the range. Mine worked perfectly. It is a little unnerving to see it fall that hard though.
Thank you.
Nice. I think you'll like it.
Bought one of these for my sister. She's pretty happy with. Good shooting little gun especially for the price.

I had a new unfired one. Sure miss it. Very nice made and solid.
They're pretty close for sure and 2 shots is a small sample size but I try to keep the videos brief and watchable.
Really nice review, just picked one up, but havent had a chance to work with it yet. Looking forward to it. I will keep the spring changes in mind. Any idea where I could get more info on the springs? Again, nice review, thanks and keep up the good work.
Carry my p-64 every day. Great review.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. The person I bought it from had changed the springs in it already. I love this GUN!!! Hey do a P-64 cleaning video...Thanks.
I have one with the 18 pound hammer spring from Wolff springs. If you buy one. Get the 18 pound hammer spring. Makes a world of difference.
Thanks for a very comprehensive review. Yes that design is very sleek, almost boutique and yet kinda Star Trek. They didn't give us guns this pretty. Sub'd
I bought one yesterday. Yeah tuff on the hand.
Thank you. I am; I have a little background info on my channel home page.
Good info.
Great vid!

I just got mine from Classic a few weeks ago (I literally bought the last one, I'm sure). Still haven't taken it out yet but I've been tinkering with it. Your review is by far the best, most concise one out there. Are you a current or ex military or LEO? Thank you for the awesome review!!! (And yes, I'm ordering the Wolff Springs for sure). Factory trigger pull is a beast!
This is my favorite handgun.

Excellent video.....thanks.
You're certainly not alone there.
Well........ For many years my primary clinic was Walter Reed in DC; these were the years following the Iraq surge and I personally saw the great work they did for my brothers and several of my very good friends and their families were helped directly by them (and their supporters/donors) so it's hard for me to dismiss them totally at this point. That said, all of the gear I have and donations I've made were done well before this incident.
1911 vs hi point---that'd be a great video!
My state will soon be a constitutional carry state so I can conceal carry without a ccw I'm very excited about this and wanted to get a compact cheap reliable pistol looks like I found my choice :) btw big fan of the channel mr g&g been subscribed to you since you were at like 25,000 subs

+npower15 awesome. Thanks for coming along for the ride
Good video.
It is drop safe. If the finger is off the trigger, the hammer cannot touch the firing pin. The only thing I see wrong with it is that it will bite the web of your hand if you have large hands. This can be resolved by grinding the back of the slide into a smooth upward curve or by putting a non-slip sleeve around the grip. I painted the front sight yellow and opened the rear sight with a square file. The pistol is incredibly accurate and well made.

I've honestly never shot groups with it. I generally don't with these little guns unless I'm not hitting the target consistently to see if something's wrong.
Great review, thanks. Useful information. Exactly what I wanted to know. They're still under $250 which isn't a bad deal at all.

Hello. Thanks for making this video. It was really helpful to me. Can you give some details on replacing the springs? Maybe say where you got the ones you used, how to buy them, and how to replace? Thanks again.
Still loving this little guy for its accuracy. Starting to be more painful as the arthritis gets worse though.

Good pistol for sure. Lots of guns that aren't makarovs shoot the caliber though so I don't think we can say that..
The only jam I got was when I guided the slide back when racking it instead of letting it fly. I knew to do that (something I learned from the unofficial P-64 resource site), but just forgot that one time. I used 3 different rounds, Silver Bear FMJ, LVE 92 gr. FMJ, and PowR-Ball HP's. I did polish the feed ramp also.
Very nice done video. No doubt. Thank You do appreciate it. But also won't deny a bit disappointed that The velocities weren't disclosed with the foot pounds energy. Also you never tested the underwood +P. 😀 Wishing you a great and safe day!

In my opinion, the P64 and CZ82 are the most superb Makarovs on the market. And so darn cheap. The only bad thing is I'm starting to see the CZ's surpass the Russian Makarovs in price! They've really gained their popularity for sure. I bought my CZ for under $200 a couple years ago, my buddy just spent $300 on his and he just had to have it. Guess he didn't have to have it 2 years ago when no one knew about them and they were cheaper lol. Mosins have done the same thing. They haven't risen too much in price but I do see them selling for $200 for a mere 91/30 sometimes which is twice what I paid for mine 4 years ago. And the M44's... wow. $400 for a mosin, come on. People have exploited the cheaper firearms and surplus and they're starting to dry up/flop in price.

Mrgunsngear Channel Then the supply increases and demand drops and those had them sell them. Then another gun that used to be easily found becomes rare as hen's teeth. Sometimes its because the ammo supply dries up or a company starts making ammo hence why Nagant revolvers are in demand and whole sale price has increased as has the retail for the ones used in World War 2.
The P64 wouldn't be my first choice for a "one and only" handgun so you're probably going in the right direction there.
p64resource is your best friend for this. There should be a video on changing the hammer spring in the forum. Its really easy to do so long as you have a vise, a screwdriver, and a paperclip. Although I am skeptical about the necessity of a different recoil spring for "timing". I kept the factory recoil spring in my P64 after changed the trigger spring to an 18 lb one and works just fine. Your own mileage my vary however, perhaps his original spring was just worn out.
And today, in Poland, this gun costs over 500 USD. I am waiting for the PM-63 RAK test (but 9x18 version with an open sling, not 9x19 conversion). ;)
The MAG98, TT-33, and P35 are others worth collecting!
Thanks.
Are you able to get the slide all the way to the rear or is it getting hung up before then?
i hope this dont sound dumb..but im looking at geting a p64..and was wondering if 380acp 9x17 would run safty and feed in it..since chamber for the more powerfull 9x18 makarov..because like you said ammo hard to find for 9x18..
Excellent video. Nice channel. I subbed.

Nice little pistol. I've had mine for about 9 months. Polish iron makes a nice replacement grip that fills the hand more. I always enjoy someone trying it out and seeing the look of surprise to the recoil. Always enjoy your channel. Have you ever thought of reviewing the Bersa BP9CC?
Perhaps; I've never seen one in a brick and mortar store where I live.
decocker worked perfectly! Great review by the way! Also, it seems with the cheap Blazer ammo I was using, the gun was jamming more when 6 rounds were in each magazine. With 5 rounds in the magazine there was no jams. Anyone seen this problem?
You talk in 3rd person like I do, but you are the only one who makes the vids... lol just like my channel good shit man
I guess if Mrsgunsngear is part of the project than it counts lol
Couple thing you forgot the pop up cartidge indicator that you can see and feel when the pistol has a bullet in the chamber. And when the safety is on the hammer is block as well.
i love my p-64. i hate the heel mag release and rounds are hard to find. but i still love it

I like the heel mag release. It's not efficient for combat but my hand is right there when the mag comes out and I guess I'm just used to that european style. I loved my P38 before the P64. But in all seriousness there are much more inefficient ways of reloading a small concealed carry pistol out there... Grendel.. lol
Thanks for the info.

I must have gotten lucky. The trigger pull on mine is close to the same as my Ruger P95 both in DA and SA. Picked up one from Gander Mountain for $250.USD [may 2013]. Put a hogue handall jr. onto it. The handall makes it comfortable in itty bitty hand[fits me lot better than that fat pig p95[but i love my p95] :) ]. Looking forward to trying out the p64 out next week. Good review, thanks.
Nice vid, I just found out something from another vid here on youtube: there is an intermediate position for the safety lever in between "fire" and "decock/safety" which disables the trigger but does not decock the hammer. So, you can carry the P-64 "cocked and locked" if you don't want to fool with that heavy DA trigger. The only problem I see with it is that you have to sweep the lever up instead of down to get to "fire". I like my DA trigger, it is apparently not as bad as most with the original springs.
