    I've had my older version P-64 for about 15 years and I really like it. It has never jammed, misfed, or misfired. For such a small pistol, it is quite accurate out to 15 meters or so. It does have a stiff action and trigger, and the magazine capacity is low. Otherwise, it makes a great backup pistol!

    The gun does not suck! I've cycled over 1000rds thru mine and have never had a misfire no matter what ammo I've used. Ergonomics are just fine to me. I have no trouble whatsoever using the safety. I have to say it's one of the most accurate guns of that size I've ever shot. At 15yrds, I can do 4" groups consistently. The gun was made to shoot the ammo for that period, so it functions as designed. You should have been aware of that when you bought it. Seems to me you are trying hard to find something that you dont like. As far as the marks around the chamber, mine doesn't have any. It's nice to know you are ridding yourself of the gun so it can maybe find someone who can appreciate the quality of this piece. You may not like it, but saying the gun sucks is a big reach.

    Did the Wolff springs set and polished the feed ramp and VOILA. I do use this as my primary carry, and it's not hard to train well with it's manual safety lever. To each their own, but mine is perfect for the task. Feed ramp polishing has made it an omnivore in the ammo department, and eats Hornady Critical Defense rounds easily and without issue. I'm so glad I bought thebwolfsprings I was ready to sell mine untill today. The spring I had was almost a 3rd shorter than the replacement, and the recoil was so bad it I could only fire 1 or 2 shots and be done. My hand web would be cut up and bleeding and hurt from the massive recoil like taking a baseball bat and hitting a 90mph fast ball barehanded. Not true in all cases. I have an older version (1970) gun and the new and old magazines work just fine. The Wolf Springs (recoil and hammer spring) replacements make the gun satisfactory. No it will never be great, but it is okay. A Handall Jr. fits snuggly on the grip and tames most of the recoil. As a left-hander (and an owner of a CZ-82 as well that I carry as a truck-gun), it is appropriate to carry this in Condition 3 and acknowledge that the P64 is a BACK-UP GUN in the same calibre (9x18mm) as either your CZ-82 (in my case) or your Makarov, and not really a dedicated concealed carry gun (though I have used it as such [with the mods listed above] with 2 extra mags in the hidden pocket of a tactical shoulder bag).

    This is (will be *was* in a few weeks) my first carry gun. Bought it several years back for like 280? After replacing the springs its slightly more serviceable but yeah still a POS (by todays standards). In the 70s and 80s hell yeah the poor man's PPK will deliver! But now, meh, for what it costs there's 2414142 better options out there. I consider it a nightmare to dis and reassemble and the slide requires a herculean effort to operate, and I'm a monster. My brother called it tug o war. He also couldn't double action till I replaced the spring. Pocket carry with this is dumb (I am dumb) because it weighs 24 oz (unloaded) or in pocket carry terms, about 75 tons. Its also been stovepiping on me as of late. Whatever. All that being said, I do love this POS, and I'm keeping it with my equally shitty and lovable Nagant revolver. Great video btw you nailed all the points. I have an early P-64 without wolf springs. I have to conclude the trigger pull is heavy, but I believe it's overblown as after the first shot, you're going to have a decent trigger pull afterwards. Secondly, I actually kinda like the sights. They're target sights, and if you carry over some of the knowledge of wwII and how handguns were treated. They were guns you point fired at close range, and if you had to use the sights, you were aiming long distances. That doesn't necessarily take away from the faults. But I always believe you should use guns from certain periods usually for what it's believed the intended design use was or what was the 'fashion' of the time. It helps put into perspective and may even aid you on how to enjoy the firearm a bit more. Of course, that doesn't fix the faults with it.

  • @firydeth

    @firydeth

    Well, the DA trigger pull is not overblown when you can't even pull the trigger to fire the gun without multiple fingers being used. Not all DA trigger pulls on these old guns are the same, and mine was utterly unusable.

    @@dangunn6961 ok your saying you watched people shoot a gun. But you haven't shot it, I don't see how your experience is equivalent. Again I have 91 guns in my collection ranging from 22s to 500 s&w and 500 buachwacker and I would shoot those guns all day before shooting my p64. I have a snub nose birdhead 44 magnum that flips into the air when you fire in and that is quite comfortable compared to the p64. The p64 is the only gun I truly hate shooting. The only thing close to that feedback is my ruger alskan in 454 casull, but even the hogue grips absorb most of the shock. You got to understand the difference between locked breech and straight blowback. There's a reason that blowback guns are relegated to calibers 380 and under. So take a small pistol with a low grip shape, chambered in basically 380+p+ with no locked system to allow pressure to drop before the slide and barrel seperate, in a gun the side of a compact which you have 2 fingers to grab and has the recoil spring around the barrel, then take grips that are rough and burred because they split at the back of the gu n and a 24 lbs double action trigger pull and tell me what you think. The force of the p64 is so strong even with 3 different mags on the last round the force of the recoil rips the magazine out the bottom of the gun. Now my magazine catch and slide lock function normally, this just happens and I'm not the only one it's happened to. Go shoot just one bullet out of yours and it's a good chance it'll happen. 9x18 Makarov is the strongest caliber made in blowback Pistols outside of highpoint but those guns are huge. Then you have the smallest 9x18 Makarov pistol. It's really a nightmare I cannot explain to you unless you've shot one. Also my gun has all original springs in it no replacements.

    I just bought one of these from Atlantic and it's a cool looking paper weight. Absolutely unusable as a CC weapon. The one I bought is in really good shape, but it is way too stiff in several ways to be relied upon. The safety is very difficult to operate even after soaking the gun in oil. The mag well is so tight, the mags are damn near impossible to take out. It came with 2 mags and it's the same with both. Not only does oil not help, but it makes the situation worse because you will inevitably apply too much oil making it slippery to hold onto. After watching multiple videos, I can see that my particular gun is much worse than most of the others I've seen. Due to the gun being in such good shape, I can only assume it came from the factory this way, and therefore was never able to be used, so it still looks new. Would not buy again.

    I bought mine at a gunshow in really good condition only replacement part was grips and 2 mags for 250, and when I picked it up I loved the feel of the gun having come from pps and ppks which I love to shoot. But man I can not love this gun. Recently the grips cracked under the extreme recoil, it doesn't ever jam but it's hard to be accurate when I have to death grip the gun and end uo with a chewed up webafterworfs and my hand shaking and I regularly shoot 460 s&w and 500 bfr and have no problem with that kind of recoil. But this just is not good. I'm thinking of selling mine too sadly. I always wanted a gun in 9x18 but I should have bough a makarov. The finish and look of the gun is almost deceiving as to how bad it shoots. One magazine and you dont want to fire again. And on the last round instead of hold open the magazine always gets pulled out of the gun. That's with both of my new mags on a 1975 triangle hammer gun. I think im gonna sell probablly or throw it in a safe and keep it for a bug gun. But I have so many other better options.

    Also, I had to take apart my safety and recontour the inside of it to make it work. When shooting, the safety would engage after each shot. Well worn Walthers often have the same problem and I have fixed this before. Luckily the safety comes apart just like a Walther so I was able to do it. But this was a new pistol, go figure?

    Pick up a Micro Desert Eagle for review and comment. Or the Kevin ZVI if they are available.

    I love every thing about the P64 except shooting it. I've fired about three magazines through it. I have no plans to ever fire it again. I searched and searched for a larger grip hoping it would make it shootable but had no luck. If my life was in immediate danger and the only option was my P64, I might shoot it... I'd be tempted. BTW, I love, love, love my Macarov.

    Makarov's are just a bit bigger, and much easier to handle. They won't fit in your pocket though.

    Completely disassembling and removing all the cosmo traces and properly breaking in the safety does wonders not only for the safety, but the DA trigger pull as well. This gun was not made for lefties. Get over it and buy some Tupperware instead. It's not for you. Felony carry in a pocket without a pocket holster that protects the trigger and the safety is foolhardy. So is carrying with the safety off. The same goes for any Tupperware striker-fired gun -only even moreso when there isn't a real external safety. ND waiting to happen.

    I did remove all the cosmoline, and everything was still stiff and terrible. I was pretty clear that I train around right handed guns. You clearly didn't watch the video very closely as I did show the pocket holster I used to carry it with. So I don't know what you're bent out of shape about. Also, why would someone need to use the safety if there is no round in the chamber? Again, I don't know what the problem is here. ALSO, I can find 1,000 people pretty quickly to say it's dumb to carry with the safety on. Due to the propensity of the safety on this gun to break (potentially if dropped), condition 3 was the only way I was comfortable using it. Basically, this is not a great carry gun.

    Yep liked the idea and pistol at the time, shot it a bunch very accurate but not very pleasant to shoot, sold it and never regretted it. P365 9mm now with Wilson xl grip is how I roll now
