POLISH FOOD in Krakow, Poland | Krakow's first ever fast food + traditional Polish MILK BAR

POLISH FOOD in Krakow, Poland | Krakow's first ever fast food + traditional Polish MILK BAR
We're in Krakow, Poland! The second biggest city in Poland and one with a vibrant Polish food culture. We eat a street food icon, the zapiekanka an open faced sandwich topped with mushrooms, cheese and ketchup at one of the first food restaurants in Krakow before heading to a Bar Mleczny, a milk-bar a cafeteria style restaurant serving up simple, affordable Polish fare. Milk bars were former state subsidized diners and at the height of communism there were 40,000 across the country. Now, there are only about 150 left but they remain a place to get wholesome, hearty food. We end our day of eating at a local restaurant that specialises in pork knuckles! We hope you enjoy this Polish food tour in Krakow, Poland! #polishfood #krakowfood #polishstreetfood
What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Zapiekanka at Zapiekanki od 1980 roku, Sienna 3, 33-332 Kraków. Open 10:30am to 6:00pm
2. Kotlet Meilony (minced meat cutlet), Kotlet Schabowy (pork schnitzel), Kapusniak (sauerkraut) soup and kompot at Bar Mleczny Targowy, aleja Ignacego Daszyńskiego 19, 31-538 Kraków. Open Monday to Friday 7:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday to Sunday 8:00am to 4:00pm.
3. Golonka (pork knuckles) at Restauracja Golonkarnia, Tadeusza Kościuszki 42, 30-105 Kraków. Open 11:00am to 10:00pm.

Milk bars were always my favourites places to eat home style Polish food. Milk bars are a chain of simple eateries where inexpensive dishes are freshly cooked everyday and they remind me my childhood. I really hope they will never disappear and will always be there serving fresh home style food to the community. I miss milk bars so much. 💞

Hi Ligia - My suggestion, before you order food in Poland, is to buy a jar or canned sauerkraut, look up some recipes via google and make it at home. This way you can get your pallet use to it. Trust me, it's way, way different from the foods you are accustomed to eating. I'm a Canadian Pole and even I have a tough time with it after not eating it for decades. There's Polish Bigos (I prefer this dish), then the sauerkraut soup, which is not just a Polish dish, sauerkraut is big in Germany, Russia, Ukraine, all Eastern Block countries. Just google: polish sauerkraut recipes in youtube and watch some videos on how to cook it.

It was Paczki day a fews ago, Grace and many others sent me cheers. Again, I'm grateful to hear both your voices on the same meal. What Thomas and Sheena have done for me from the other side of the world words could never explain. Every parent (myself included) hopes and dreams that we instil values into our kids that they will take with them on lifes journeys. You have an amazing son and an equally gorgeous Daughter in law. Brilliant Blue. Dear Brilliant Blue. What a lovely lovely post. It teared Robbie and I up. Yes we agree that Thomas and Sheena are extraordinary people and are proud to have had some input into making them who they are. We anticipate each and every Vlog and love their knowledge, insights and empathy. We are so pleased that you enjoy their work. They make it look so easy but it’s a lot of hard effort in travel, research, filming and editing. Take care. Steve
