Policing in a Democratic Society Panel 2

At the National Constitution Center a panel of scholars discuss what “just policing” looks like in a democratic society and the specific steps to get there. Participants include David Kennedy of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice; Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute; and Theodore Shaw of the University of North Carolina School of Law. Michael Days, editor of the Philadelphia Daily News, moderates.

Miss Mac Donald, thank you for taking on this insurmountable task. I work in the inner city and the community members smile and wave when I am on patrol. I have been invited to BBQ's, church and bowling nights. There is no "police problem", there is a perception problem. If I was surrounded by people who treated ANYONE with indifference I would speak up. No one hates a dirty cop more than good cops...

Until the blacks can be honest they will never move forward. Good job Miz McDonald on calling them out and not backing down from their bullshit narrative!

Prophetic. As far as the other panelists appeal to emotion put forward as legitimate argument. Not one of these other panelists have gone to hear the voices in these communities being held hostage by violent thugs

Whites without fathers commit less crime than whites from 2 parent homes? I don't think so. You are comparing apples to oranges.

The gentlemen in the orange tie offered not a single original opinion. He said everything you would expect a young kid who researched for maybe 2hours. His arguments were lazy and predictable.

Crime causes poverty. Not the other way around. You don’t hear about white on white crime because it’s not a real thing.

@@nunyabusiness1317 c'mon man, the #1 cause of death for young black men is homicide. Where is the white version of chicago, st.louis, Milwaukee or oakland??

Broken window effect is failed policy that turns police into nothing more than a brute squad for government collection. It is akin to putting someone in the stocks for a minor infraction. This is backward. There is a WAR on Citizens too. Our rights are being abused by police violating the fourth amendment. Prison inmates numbers are at record high. 60 percent of the population has an arrest record. THIS IS NOT PROGRESS! Crime has not gone down. In cities with no guns it has gotten worse! Not better. Second Amendment advocates protect others not police state policies.

If it’s a failed policy then why did the murder rate in NY drop 80% when the policy was in effect 🤔
