You would think they would know their own rules (Prison Media Bill 2023): While it is an offence to photograph, film or make sound recordings of prison workers (and indeed, at all) in prison without authorisation, it is not currently an offence to do so if the recording takes place outside ‘the prison walls’ (but still on prison land) and does not capture the inside of a prison

Im not an auditor or do i want to test boundaries but i like to take many pictures all over the place when i feel like it and especially old architecture when i travel. This place would be like a magnet to me and i would absolutely want to photograph the building purely from an architectural interest viewpoint. Because i don't want any trouble i would probably move if confronted like this but it would annoy me. This kind of thing gives me more encouragement to stand my ground a bit however.

It states on either side of the pillars Private Car Park and on the other side Private Road No Thoroughfare its not Public Access but Private Land 20 ft behind on the main road yes but the implied right of access was withdrawn the only argument is whether the signage was Overt

I've taken video & photo of Lewes Prison from a helicopter i was up in once. Lewes Prison, just up the road from where i live, Hove. Not got a very good reputation. Victorian building & falling apart in places!
