My late husband was a police officer. We had got German shepherd named Barron Sadly we had to put him down in 2008. We had Barron's cremated. We had kept his ashes. My husband was so depressed over the years. We got another dog but it wasn't the same. We had agreed that when the time came when my husband had passed that the ashes of Barron's would be put with him. At first the person at the funeral home said he couldn't do it. When I had said that Barron had helped my husband on the police force. Finally the man said yes he would put their ashes together. It has been 11 years now since I had to let them go. I miss them both. I love you both. 😢😢😢

Putting down my last rescue shepherd was the hardest thing ever. I said I wouldn’t get another one after that but I missed him so much and a few months later we rescued another beautiful shepherd. They are the best dogs.

It's very hard when our pets have to be put down and the last time we had to do that was about 19 months ago. Every day I still miss my Harley whom we had for almost 13 years he was a Golden Retriever. Our Vet said dogs do not have logic but Harley did and he asked me what did I do to train him. LOL I didn't say much except I started teaching him things when he was a baby pup. Maybe one day I will get another Golden Retriever time will tell. They are so loving, playful and have a memory that doesn't quit plus they are great watchdogs as well. God Bless you and your new Shepard they are awesome dogs for sure we had two of them through the years and are very protective of their human family and home.

We had a toy fox terrier, adopted a disabled black lab & a friends 2 senior small dogs, a Jack Russell & a white Westhighland. A horrible neighbor killed the lab, the 2 sr dogs we had for about 2 yrs, then the Westin was diagnosed with a bladder tumor & not expected to have more than 6 months. With treatment he got over two more years before it was time to let him pass. Within 6 months the Jack suddenly lost weight & was diagnosed with an anal gland carcinoma, we had to let him pass. By that time the fox terrier was 16, had arthritis, was blind and having a hard time hearing. A local shelter had 2 young mixed breed sm dogs, probably from a puppy mill, a male & female, they needed to be adopted together. We took our Missy for a meet and greet and the 3 got along beautifully. The shelter did the spay & neuter, microchipped & shots & we brought them home. About a month later Missy let us know she was ready to rest. All 4 dogs loved our ponies and we had an older pony we had to let pass, he was suffering from a neurological issue & would have never survived the coming winter. We had had him 20 yrs, so this was very difficult. We had each dog cremated when they passed and this summer we are going to bury their ashes where we buried the pony. It was a rough time span, I had 3 major surgeries, then a brother passed away, then my husband lost his brother. But we are blessed to have the two adopted mixed breed young dogs and they have been an amazing joy. So many say never again after losing a beloved pet. We were blessed by each of the dogs we had, whether for 16 years or four, it does hurt when they pass. We are thankful and blessed yet again when these two came up for adoption. We miss all the animals we’ve lost over the years, I tear up thinking of them and the memories I have, but sadly our animals are not to be with us long term. I hope more people will consider adopting a pet, there are so many that need loving homes and they show you everyday how much they love and appreciate you bringing them into your home and heart. God gave us a big heart, share it with a pet.

I know how it feel I also had a dog I had for almost 18yrs old. He was a black lab and blue healer because I live alone he was my emotional champion. In 2020 I had to put him to sleep because he was sick I have his ashes and to this day I still keep remembering him and she'd tears. I'm an 80yrs old woman but I know we'll see each other at the Rainbow Bridge.

Yes I cried grown man I am 66 my little girl is getting bad with her back legs. So one day I have got to make that decision it hurts.

You can help her back legs by addressing symptoms. I learned about dogs a long time ago. When the dog lays down and doesn't get up again, it's time to take it to the vet for the sleeping medicine. I think it's good when you can pet your dog and say calming things as it falls asleep.

I'm feeling your pain, my "baby girl" just turned 12 but had slowly started slowing down and has started losing weight. I know I'm going to have to make the decision but I'm not sure I'm ready to lose her. I've had her since she was 6 weeks old, we've done everything together, even vacations to my hometown in KY. I'm 66 years old and crying like a baby watching this video. I do have another "baby boy", he's 5.. both are chihuahuas. I lost my other "baby girl" 4 years ago in a car accident she was only 2.😢 God Bless this officer🙏❤️

It was very sad that he lost both his k-9 parteners.

Poor Officer Mike im so sorry for your loss, it's hard to lose a beloved pet whether that pet is a partner or just a companion. I've had to have more than 1 wonderful pet put down but I also know that that pet was no longer in pain. I didn't want them to be in pain anymore. Unfortunately we need to fo what's best for our best friend and not necessarily what we think is best for us. You made the hard decision and I'm sure Hu ter knows you loved him very much and he wouldn't want you to be sad or "best friendless". I'm sorry.

There is nothing like the loss of an animal that you love so much and that loves you just as much. It has been over 25 years and I still miss and love my dog, a German Shepherd named Lady. She was the smartest dog in the world and I love her so much still.

Yes, it did tear me up. The partner fulfilled his duty until he couldn't anymore. RIP What would this canine partner want his master to do? Rip Hunter. Made me cry. How could you choose another going through such heartbreak twice. Tragic

100% sad! BUT, I have had many, many, many animals over the last 67 years. It took me almost 30 years to be able to say out loud, my first dog’s name, Lobo, without crying. Lobo would have given his life for me had it been necessary as this area of town was very rural back in those days, and we were always out the desert with the horses. I understand everyone grieving over an animal, but we all need to remember, without us, those animals would not have had a life. I also understand the grief this officer feels, but buddy,you gave that dog his best life. And that dog would not have changed the life he had for anything!

I had seen the procession with Mike carrying his brave partner. However, I never knew the rest of the story until just now. It's so heartbreaking and YES I cried and still am. My heart hurts for Mike and his family and the other police. They are truly our Homeland Heroes!

It is really sad why dogs seem to die except when you really think about it, it takes two to three years to train the dog, and the dog only lives eight or ten years, so you only have eight or ten years with them 😢😢😢. Just be great full for the time you have. Be very thankful for what time you can spend with them, as they will always protect you!

I felt Mike's pain, I believe all Dogs are more human, and understand more then people know. I've had all types of different breeds, and most were saved from puppy mills , homeless, or rehomed to me after having 2 owners before me. what really breaks my heart today, is how many fur babies out there in shelters that are also kill shelters, and not many people are rescuing them, what hurts the most that people are breeding dogs, and using them as cash cows. God save our fur babies! If I had the proper facilities, and money I'd save them all.

I have had to put to sleep several special dogs. I still miss them deeply. In time, there will be a new partner for him. But he will always miss the previous two. Having a new partner eventually will bring new comfort.

You know we've all had to put pets down and it's always very very very very very very hard! But the way I look at it is that I gave my dog the best life my dog could have and so when I'm done grieving I get another dog because then I can give them the best life they need and just keep doing that while at the same time always having a love in my heart for the dog I had to put to sleep!

I can remember when I lost my Best Friend Dutchess, my Black Lab ,I had for 13 years and she was by my side 24-7 ,we went to work together we eat an even slept in the same bed for the 13 yrs I can feel the "loss"" that he and his family do, my vet couldn't even put my dog down because he treated her for 12 1/2 yrs, I'm shaving a very hard time writing this my , GOD GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR BEST FRIEND 😥😪 with Love Shirley an my new rescue friend LUCIE 😌😃💕 💞

Yes it’s heart breaking saying good bye to a beloved partner and friend.I have had to say good bye to several beloved pets over the years and when you have such a close bond with them it’s very hard.I can imagine how very sad it must have been for that officer as he and his dog were working together all those years and they always looked out for each other.😢😢💟

I have had GSD's for over 30years, I a couple of other working breeds but have always went back to shepherds. I had to put my13year old to sleep a year and a half ago and miss him every day, I still have a shepherd, she is 6years old.My granddaughter gave us a lab mix puppy who needed a home just before we lost Tucker, he made the loss easier for our other Shepherd. I have learned to love Shamus,He is a really good dog and very smart but he is not a shepherd. RIP Hunter.

I hate stories llike this because I always cry. I lost my most wonderful Rottweiler dog at the age of 9 due to leukaemia. It's the best thing to start training another partner or getting a dog as a pet for home. Having the knack of successfully training and bonding with K9s is a wonderful gift to have. Another partner would be Mike's best choice as not many people can truly bond with a dogs in a way that's required to for a K9.

We lost our 12 year old Golden Retriever August 2022 our vet had to put him down. It's just never been the same since then because he was one with us and so intelligent. I taught him some sign language, he was so smart and always knew my next moves lol. Our vet said dogs do not have logic but our Harley did and the vet asked me what did I do and I said I worked a lot with him but always made sure he was watching me all the time. LOL Harley was his name and he was so loving, kind and very smart. Every day is difficult without him here but I thank God that. He sent Harley to us and am very thankful for sure. He was part of our family and loved us back for sure. On top of it all he was a clown and was so fast when he ran it was amazing. He always had a smile on his face and loved everybody. I thank God for allowing us to have Harley in our life and our neighbors and friends really miss him too.

Being paralyzed and living alone I needed a special kind of indoor watchdog, one who could help protect my home and me while sleeping but couldn't be overly aggressive because of nurses, aides, and housekeepers who came in daily, after my dad died my neighbor bought an AKC black lab puppy that was sold cheap because he was already four months old and had been passed over because he seemed timid but when brought to me he immediately came to lay at my side where he rarely left. He was the perfect watchdog for me, no one came in without receiving the most intimidating barks and growls sounding more like a bear than a dog but when he got a sniff and was satisfied they belonged there he turned into a big puppy. Some nurses even started bringing him milk bone doggy treats but they still received the initial barks and growls, I had him for 13 years and after he died I couldn't bring myself to just replace him, soon after I was stuck in this nursing home and never did get another. Diogee (pronounced Dee-Oh-Gee, (D-O-G) 🤣 I sure do miss him.

Such an absolutely beautiful story! Hunter was put on to his path after such a horrible loss. Even comforting his human on his last few hours while in so much pain. But this is so heartbreaking losing two beautiful shepherds. May the both rest in peace. Beautiful souls. ❤️

I know how you feel it is the hardest deseison to have to make the day i had to make that decision when my beautiful blue eye husky got sick and had a mild stroke i miss her very much she was my whole world and my best friend and my rock so i know just how that feels when you lose that special angel 😇 but he knows how much you loved him and he is still with you he is in your heart 💕 and he is watching over you and he is waiting for you at the rainbow bridge for the day when you two are together again my prayers and thoughts are with you

I cried, I'm old with lots of problems, my husband passed and she is the oldest, but I wanted one for me too so I got another , now two dogs beep me busy and we all have a lot of the same problems I sat and held Daisy the other day in a towel while shad a seizure for a half hour rubbing her head thought she was dieing when she looked at me with recognition I played her in he bed a half hour later happy to have her alive a little longer Caleb has a heart murder and a calapest treakand we wait and I pray untill there in pain then if I'm here I will have to put them down😢

It is SO sad and hard to see your dog (or any pet animal) getting sick and loosing him:( Even worse when he was only 4 years young.. Our dog had a lymphoma cancer and we had to say goodbye to him on a Christmas day 😢😢😢

I’m in my 70’s and have never been without one or more dogs. One by one over the years I have sat with my dogs that were being euthanised and just wept and wept. We get such a strong bond with our best friends that it’s overwhelming when that day arrives. I’ve often wondered why dogs get so little time with us compared to say elephants or parrots and what about turtles? They can live up to 100 years old. In the end I comfort myself with the thought that we can have many dogs over the years and just like all the others now gone can lavish love on another best friend. Over time I stop and think about all the beautiful dogs I’ve had and a smile always comes to my face and then give my current dog Jessie a scratch behind her ears. God bless all you dog lovers!

this is truely a hart breaking story, i cried watching this .i hate sad ending of pets be it k-9 /cats ,kittens any pets what so ever. i am an animal lover. i do not like people who miss treat any pet ,causeing them harm,animals have feelings to,they cry, they show pain in some way or form. so people, DO NOT be CRUEL to your PETS. treat them with respect show them LOVE and welcome them with a WARM HART and OPEN ARMS .........PLEASE!!

i am still crying. i am remembering my dog prissy who was six years old and started having loss of control of body movements. then she started doing weird things like move into a corner and just stand there or walk in circles. she also gained weighet in weired places and got diabetes amongst other physical ailments. she was finally diagnosed with cushings disiese and couldn’t be saved she had to be put down. she was such a good dog. i cry still for her and miss her so much! animals are so precious! i can imagin what the officer felt like loosing his two best friends like that! i hope he was able to go on. i hope he was able to find another best friend! one who stayed with him through his retirement. i wish they could live as long as humans can. life without them is veryhard.

That was very painfully to see go. He was the officers best friend 😢 I had a lab Lucy she was my best friend everything to me. She became ill and I had to put her down because she had a hard time breathing. I miss my best friend Lucy. Its said to let go of my best friend. I always of all the good times we had. I have been keeping my chin up and moving on and just reminding the memories.

It is sad to know Hunter was put down. I felt the pain of the officer who shared his life with Hunter. It hurt deeply, but I did not cry, even though I was on the verge of tears. It’s hard to lose your fur baby. So hard.

We have had a couple of dogs. The last one had to be put down. The hardest one for me was when we lost our cat of almost 20 years! Pets are pets regardless of what kind they are and it’s so hard when we lose them!

I just had to make the so painful decision to have my English bulldog and my best friend 2 weeks ago and my heart hurts so bad. I was a single mum still am and he was our watch dog and protecter, after watching this I cried and cried. I know exactly how his partner felt. They are so loyal, I miss Dale everyday.
