David Graf as Tackleberry is hilarious. He gets his moment to shine in later movies, he was really under-utilised in this one. Fun fact: Scott Thomson ‘grew up’ and played Preacher in Twister. I’d never seen him in anything else and barely recognised him in Twister - it wasn’t until Greg and Roxy reacted to it that I looked up all the cast and realised where I knew him from 😂 some of the biggest stars of the 80’s and 90’s were in this. I own all of these on DVD, they were a huge part of my childhood because my dad loves them. But they get steadily worse after 4.

40 years ago. This one along with Beverly Hills Cop. When unorthodox comedies about police were golden. P.A. had so many characters with so many personalities. Great direction and writing for it's genre. 12 of the people involved have passed away, some of them part of the franchise for most of the films. Director of the first installment, the late Hugh Wilson does a cameo (Angry Driver). 1+6 sequels within a decade and the first installment was the highest-grossing. Among the first adult-oriented franchises to be dumbed down and marketed to kids as an animated series (1988-1989) with tie-in comics and video games. Also a short-lived series continuation (1997-1998) of the films with some castmembers reprising their roles. All of them are good with their own craziness. Go ahead and watch 'em all.

One of the greatest comedies ever! Came out in 1984. A golden year in cinema. My sister and I watched this whole series growing up. I don't even think we got half the jokes. The cast travels throughout the series but some leave and then come back. GW Bailey recently starred on drama series The Closer and Major Crimes as Lt. Provenza. He was amazing and honestly deserved an Emmy for it. We use so many references from this movie. If one of us misses out on something, we say we feel like Tackleberry. Or if we are trying to find a parking space, my sister will say she wishes she can Mahoney it. Also confession... I saw this again a couple of years ago and just realized what the lady was doing in the podium. I guess when I first saw it on VHS I was just a kid like 8 and thought they were just hiding. Then I guess on TV they may have it edited it differently.. You see something new every time. The sequels have their moments but I don't think any top this.

Tackleberry didn't duck because he knew that Barbera hadn't re-racked the shotgun. Thus, the shell in the chamber was spent. Also, yes, Michael Winslow (Jones) is the radar operator in Spaceballs. He was doing special effects as a stand-up routine and got approached to be in the movie. The character of Jones was written specifically for him. Actually, it's established in the sequels that the Lassard is just a horrible driver. Also, he's not quite as clueless as he pretends to be. The actress who played Hooks has said that she based her performance on Michael Jackson. The Unnamed Antagonist that takes the guns (Credited in the third movie as "Axe Murderer", and is the leader of a gang, which includes the character's mother, and is again caught by Hooks) is played by Doug Lennox.

38:57 Hancock The big guy is Bubba Smith. He was a phenom in college and probably would have been in the pros but the NFL blew out his knee. He is the reason we have two people who hold the chains and drop them whenever players get close to the sidelines. Prior to that, the were stacked into the ground. Long story short, Smith, on a play along the sidelines, tripped and got tangled in the chains and tore up his knee. He was never the same....

Fridge Brilliance: The scene at the range where Barbara swung the 12ga and everyone ducked except Tackleberry, the reason why he didn't duck was because after Barbara fired, he didn't rack the slide, which would eject the spent shell and load a new one. Because of his knowledge of firearms, Tackleberry knew he was perfectly safe.

My cousin is a cop. When he was in our version of the police academy (here in Ontario), they'd get in trouble (but not really) because during marching they'd whistle or hum the theme to this movie. This was like 2000, so the movie was already old, but we all knew this song... and the Blue Oyster song. (A recurring joke in these films that did NOT age well at all.) We grew up watching this movie. I think I was 7 the first time I saw it. (80s kids. This was on tv all the time)
