I rented a Polestar 2 last summer to drive from Phoenix to Eugene. When I finished, I knew I wanted an EV, but not a Polestar. The ski-slope center console and high window sill felt like sitting in a bucket, and the view out the back window was limited. (And the less said about the cup holders, the better.) Fast charging was limited by the CCS stations on the route.

I really don't understand why people continue to compare this 2 cars. If someone is looking for a Polestar 2 they would be looking at a Tesla Model 3, not the Model Y.

it’s a crossover so it can be compared. But probably XC40 and C40 recharge are better match for a comparaison. And they are pretty much the same car since they use the same platform and software.

@@PedroCarvalho0 i actually own one. so it’s pretty much outside of any car style. it’s very close to a fastback 4 door sedan but it’s not because it’s higher and has a bit higher ground clearance. but it’s not enough high to be a SUV. so it’s a bit of a sedan a bit hatchback, fastback and SUV. but i admit that it’s probably closer to a 4 door fastback. in fact if it would look like an SUV i would not have bought it. he probably should have compared it with volvo c40 and xc40 that are pure Suv and based on same platform

  • @PedroCarvalho0

It is over 2 inches lower than the VW I'd.3 The ground clearance is less than the majority of the sedans out there. I never remember anyone calling a car that is lower than 150cm and has a hatch anything other than a hatchback.... So, should the BMW i3 be called a crossover too? It's just 3 cm lower. Anyway it's a pointless discussion but it's tiresome to see the same comparisons over and over again and then the same conclusions. And yes, you are right, the xc40 is the car to compare against the model y for the same platform.

So, after rebate the MY is $14K cheaper ? If I was trying to decide which one to buy, price would be the # 1 factor. BTW, I wish I would stop hearing about "recalls" that are fixed via over the air updates. How many times have Tesla owners had to take their cars to a service center for a recall?

If you want a sporty Volvo, with all the Volvo attributes, get a Polestar 2. If you want a more tech-driven car that has compromises in mechanical refinement but has the most reliable charging network and excellent software and efficiency, get a Tesla. My choice is Volvo/Polestar. I don't care for the Tesla after renting it for a weekend. Fun to drive but build and comfort and mechanical refinement isn't there. I'd pick Hyundai/Kia and other BEVs over it even though they have the best charging network by far.

Wow, impressive, you actually did not misrepresent Tesla in this video.... The Full Self Driving on the Tesla is pretty amazing compared to any other manufacturer! Particully, if you drive a lot! Manual air vents? Are you like 90 years old, you know how much I hate adusting the 10 vent EVERYTIME I get into the car after my wife drives it! Honetly, I never seen a person move all the vents not on you AND crank down the air, but that is another story, Tesla has fixed that by automaticlly adjusting the vents for each driver. I am suprised you not not unhappy your smart phone does not have a rotoray dial on it... This is the future you know....

I own both of these vehicle brand and the quality, drive and reliability is a lot better on the P2. Everything on the Tesla is really cheap and falling apart, battery degradation is worst on the Tesla. After owning several other brands of EV, I had the M3, S and X, with too many issues, I’ll stay away from Tesla for good.

better right? Tesla do not have : 360 camera, parking sensors, rain sensor, front camera, instrument cluster, air vents, indicator stalk, wiper stalk, gear selector, apple CarPlay and AA, a stupid but how important speed LIM function, free key fob, rear cross traffic alert ? in 2023? in a 50K car? sorry but every single of them are absolute dealbreakers for me. imagine all together… couldn’t care less about netflix, sentinel mode, dog mode, fart mode, super charger if my daily life is a nightmare because of all those useful and some times vital things (stalk indicators). all the good points that a Tesla can have are completely irrelevant if they fail on what makes a car possible to be actually DRIVEN! yes because with highland model it is literally becoming barely possible to even drive it. It’s not even a car anymore. It’s an ipad with a driving wheel (for how long more) and some batteries.

Cant make an informed decision in 5min but thanks for the comparison albeit a bit biased. Tesla has the charm of a "clean taxi". I'd rather not conform and wish my hard earned money be spent on something luxurious, stylish, and trustworthy. The Polestar 2 seems great and retains the manual vents, stalks, buttons, etc. Unfortunately, I dont feel comfortable pulling the trigger on this or any other EV when thinking about the everyday reliability. I cant afford to gamble on Volvo's(China's) new tech given its history. Tesla is popular bc it outmatches on tech, range, and infrastructure. Its pricey bc it's proven and ticks a lot of boxes in many substantial areas, not just a few. I'll keep saving for now...

I used to enjoy watching your EV-related videos; however, your content has become stale and uninteresting especially your coverage of Tesla. I don't own a Tesla and I am not a "fanboy" of the brand. I am interested in buying the best EV available and learning more about them from the EV-related videos I watch. I no longer believe I can rely on your videos to provide accurate and unbiased coverage of Tesla and other EVs. You seem to be more involved with hype rather than substance these days.

There's zero reason for Tesla not to support Android Auto and even whatever Apple have. They could even charge for it as a reasonably priced upgrade but people should get the option. Just like the yoke was a silly idea, and removing the indicator stalks is chuffing useless. They don't get everything right. Although they did remember not to put a transmission in their electric vehicles like a certain family who have always made terrible vehicles that fanboys literally worship because they are bad to drive and uncomfortable.
