I own a Model 3 RWD and Polestar 2 Performance. The Polestar 2 is a MUCH better car. Not quite as efficient, but a far better overall driving experience. My wife doesn't care about driving experience, just getting from A to B, so, I drive the Polestar and she drives the Tesla. Everybody's happy. 😃

Tommy!!! The BEST review or comparison of a Polestar 2 and model 3 that exists on the net. I've owned both a Polestar 2 and a model Y and driven model 3. Also have owned 4 additional EVs. My Polestar was by far the best driving car I've owned and you are one of the few reviewers that have stated that. Also, to me ergonomics are a big big factor and the Polestar has way better ergonomics. Tesla has literally the world's worst. The Polestar is lacking HVAC buttons, if it had those it would be almost perfect. Just adjusting the air vents on the Tesla is a major PITA. The wiper stalk and headlight stalk are both ergonomically perfect. And as you said, mirror buttons etc and if you want to flip your side mirror down to see a curb or something like that you just double tap which ever side mirror you want to angle down, no hunting through cumbersome menus on a screen. Everything is right where it should be with the exception of some of the HVAC controls. And at least it has physical defrost buttons which are really the HVAC fearures you may need in a hurry and easy access to. I recently traded my Polestar in for an ID4 as right now an e-CUV is more suited to what I need but man or man I miss driving my Polestar.

    k. everyone getting bent up over the Geely connection... if the US government told the big three go pound sand like they should've in 08, and told the chinese they can sell EVs in north america if they build em here, we would have more EVs at more affordable price points than we do now. and get rid of the emissions carve-outs for big trucks while we're at it, and watch how fast the compact car segment revives.

I have a 2022 Polestar 2 AWD version, didn't opt for the performance version. Did get the upgraded interior option for that generation. I much prefer the Polestar interior to the tesla, we had a Model X before (2019 Raven Refresh). The cooled seats are an important feature for the warmer climates and work great, and the seats are much more comfortable. I used Google Auto for a while, but when carplay came I haven't touched it since. I find that we get the range numbers the car says it has where I found on our Model X that while it said 247 max range I could never get above 180-200 and 200 was white knuckle 2% or less. One thing the Polestar does that I'm not a fan of is when the battery gets below 17-15% it restricts power so bad you can't stay at highway speed, and you become an instant danger, so we never have let it get below 17% as it's pretty scary when you're on the highway and can't go over 20. I don't know if this was fixed, because experiencing it once is more than enough to never try it again.

Note for Roman - CarPlay works amazing with the Polestar 2, even though the OS is Google. It’s actually one of the few cars to support dual screen CarPlay - guidance is shown on the driver cluster as well, just like the Google Maps system. It’s pretty awesome. If you need wireless, there are adapters. In my experience wired is rock solid reliable compared.

Everyone complaining that they didn’t compare the M3 Highland. Do you know why? Because it’s not for sale in the US yet!!!! I would have preferred a comparison between the base M3 and the base P2 in standard RWD form. Both cars have their pros and cons. The EV tech continues to mature. Remember when Musk launched the M3 and claimed the cars could soon be driverless robo-taxis? Welp, here we are at all new HW/SW. Those 2017 M3s are obsolete. It’s best to lease an EV for now, and get what meets your personal use case.

I never understood the whole argument about how "It's so bad having the speedometer on the center screen. You have to look so far away from the road to see how fast you're going." I never owned a car with an ACTUAL heads-up display (Not the instrument cluster a lot of places now for some stupidly innacurate reason call a HUD), but that would probably be the best option, since the speed would be projected onto the windshield in front of you. But even with a typical instrument cluster, you're still focusing on something much closer to you than the road in front of you every time you glance at it. Could argue that by looking at the top left corner of the center Tesla screen, the road ahead may no longer be in focus, but because there is so little cluttering up the dashboard, and the height of the dashboard is as low as it is, you're still seeing enough of the road in your periphery to more easily notice sudden movement.

  • @theeternalnightmare2630

It’s controversial yet unnecessary to bicker about. Your points are valid, no matter where your speedometer is, it’s a distraction in some shape or form when you look at it. Unless your speeding its hard not to glance at it and still be attentive to whats happening in front and anywhere else around you.

@@Cloud30000heat pumps are still more efficient in cold. The exchange coil can ice over though, which requires a resistive element to de ice. Because of that, a lot of heat pump systems switch to resistive at a certain temp. Regardless until that switch the heat pump is always more efficient. Air source cooling does get less efficient as the outside air gets warmer but even in 100+ temps the system requires less energy than resistive electric heat which is pretty close to 100%. Best thing to do is buy a Polestar 2 (a 2022 or 2023) used... you can get a fully loaded one with less than 10k miles on it for very low 30's. I purchased a 2022 when the model 3 didn't have any rebate and the polestar did in 2022... So I got the Fully loaded (I even have the tow package) PS2 for like 61k. and the Model 3 was like 5k more expensive and didn't include the full self-driving. When Tesla pulled the pricing back down it makes it a very hard argument for the polestar 2 from new... But I have my PS2 in getting a service today, and Hertz gave me a Model 3 (base model) and I HATE IT. Feels like a cheap Corolla vs a much more premium vehicle. I also do not like the new grill on the PS2... the 2021-23 looks much better.

It doesn't necessarily make sense to buy the more power-hungry version with the slightly weaker battery, giving it an estimated 54 mile shorter range. But it is an option if you care more about getting that acceleration at the same price. My uneducated guess is that they're trying to get rid of the older batteries by doing this price reduction -- basically the old model battery makes the new model car on clearance. The fit and finish on the polestar is better than the model Y we had. Also I just read that due to all the Chinese origin parts the Tesla model 3 are losing federal tax credit after 1/1. So that’s 7500 more to Tesla price, still less costly. I like the look of the new model 3 and Tesla is starting to really mature and it has the supercharger network, but for me living in a cold state I won’t rely on a car that does everything from a giant lcd like the Tesla. The new one requires you to slide car into drive on screen and has no directional stalks either. For many that won’t be a big deal but for me as someone who’s been driving for 30 years it’s more of an adjustment. I also missed a hud or gauge cluster

I see Polestar is building on current trend in Volvo design of making a car that's pretty beautiful and nice in many ways, but ultimately not competitive in the price department. Put more simply, across every category, Volvo makes a nice vehicle, but for $50 or $60k, there are simply so many other options that bring more to the table. That's how I view Polestar right now. I love me a Scandinavian sled, I love me a Volvo, I grew up driving them. But when it came time for me to spend my money on a new family car, I couldn't justify their high price tags.

Not to mention the build quality of Tesla's cars still leave something to be desired. It'll be nice when the other manufacturers switch to NACS, to get access to Tesla's supercharging network. Another comparison I'd make, as a suggestion, throw the BMW i4 into the mix, since it technically competes in that segment too.

I wonder, you have both cars, why don't you do a 500 - 800 mile test of both cars driven at the same time in the same conditions and set once for all the differences in efficiency between the two ? You always say : Tesla doesn't match its EPA, when EPA is not important. What's important is the real range you can drive when you need it. And 270 miles in the Tesla Performance AWD (real world as you acknowledge it) is more than 220 miles in Polestar2 Performance AWD, which in a 1000 miles run equates to one more charge stop in the Polestar every 3 stops in a Tesla.

I dont get why almost everyone chooses the dual motor top spec all the options polestar 2 and compares prices with a model 3 without all the options. You had a $4k seat option that you didnt need to do!!! First off how about talk about the new RWD configuration that most people would prefer due to longer range, faster charging and cheaper. I just leased a rwd with pilot and plus packs so i can take advantage of the federal rebate and took advantage of a couple other deals and the purchase price was around $47k....a little misleading saying its not worth the $69k price. Ill take my still respectable 5.9 second 0 to 60 I never actually do, my longer range, faster charging and my savings over the top spec dual motor any day of the week. All Im saying is its hard to get real information when all the tesla fans choose the best case scenario for the tesla and ignore a bunch of things that actually matter to people when they are researching what car they want. How many people actually buy the top spec cars! Talk about the entry level ones and how they compare.
