Polestar 2: Latest Software with New Range Assistant, Apple Maps and Waze Tested in Practice (P2.10)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Polestar 2 is a direct Model 3 competitor, and just like the Tesla, it can receive over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
The latest P2.10 mostly squished some bugs, but the previous P2.9 brought a lot of new features, like the KZread app, a revised Range Assistant with more detailed energy consumption information, deeper Apple CarPlay integration (with Apple Maps projection into the instrument display) + a walkthrough of many of the 3rd party apps which are now available on the Android Automotive Google Play Store, such as Waze, Octopus Electroverse, and A Better Route Planner (ABRP).

This, like all of your videos, is excellent: well-organized, thorough, presented in a clear and engaging manner, and highly refined post-edit. It's evident that each must take a great deal of time to produce. Here you cover so much ground that I need to go back and re-watch different parts (for which your chapter times are most helpful). That's in part because much of the video applies to my Volvo C40 (and to the Volvo XC40 Recharge). I have also learned a great deal from your many BMW i3 videos, as we own one of those (formerly two) as well.

Thanks for the detailed overview! About to "test drive" a Polestar 2 on vacation in the UK and then probably buy one in the US immediately after getting back lol. Two great features I'm now looking forward to thanks to this video - Apple Maps on the information cluster via Carplay, and the fact that Android Automotive lets ABRP access the car's state of charge! Very cool.

@@andreasl4507 Fair enough. In my experience Google Maps is quite a bit behind apple in actual mapping of the road. Apple seem to get the lane guidance, speed limits and road layouts correct far more often than Google Maps. Also route selection has been better for me on Apple. Google Maps is not as good here in the UK as it is in North America in my experience

Enjoyed that video thanks. Always a good watch. Will Google maps in the car also do the ABRP thing of working across Europe with recommended stops etc. planning a drive to Spain and Portugal over a couple of days from Cheshire. If so, it would be a direct equivalent to Tesla I suppose?

The only thing I’d like extra: paddles to change regen options faster on the drive. Because I can judge when I need coast or regen but don’t want to keep going to screen

  • @wiselyauto

If you are happy with regen, we would simply recommend leaving it on all the time and coast by leaving the accelerator pedal slightly pushed in. The power meter in the instrument display can help you get used to the pedal tuning and you won't ever have to change the settings ever again.

Interesting. I need to experiment with options on my Megane E-Tech which like the Polestar also has built in Google Maps though Android Automotive. For finding exact location in a rural area where the postcode may not be specific enough for a particular property I would like to be able to bring up What Three Words as a final destination but I have been told that as yet it is not yet comparable with CarPlay in the car.

I have recently test driven a Polstar 2 (2023 U.S. version) and the experience I had confirmed that I will soon purchase the 2024 when available. I did notice one detail or feature that was not available (to my knowledge), which was when using one pedal driving and you come to a stop at a traffic light or any stop, there is no indication that the car has the brake engaged or is in park mode. My spouse has a BMW I-4 and when you stop, it indicates or displays "Auto Hold, Park" until you resume or press the accelerator. Does the update provide some similar light or indication that the car will not roll? I could get use to it but I like the indicator provided in the BMW.

This is utterly hilarious: 1. People get hypnotized by Apple marketing into buying their fenced-garden products, some of which are quite limited in many ways. 2. Needing a map fo their day-to-day driving, they soon discover how poor Apple Maps is. 3. Trying to circunvent the hardship they brought upon themselves, they look for third-party solace and find Waze. 4. They then buy a car that is the first one to improve on an already pretty good car digital suite (Google Auto) by featuring a dedicated development of such tool (Google Automotive). 5. Being used to suffer, they then try to keep using Waze, either via an awkward cable connection, or by putting up with a third-party app in Google Automotive that impairs one of the best features in the car - replicating the map together with turn-by-turn directions in the driver's display. 6. Meanwhile, all through this "song and dance" they fail to realize that Google Maps, which is already an excellent all-around mapping tool in many platforms and is pretty much perfectly implemented in Google Automotive is right there, at their fingertips, to do exactly what they've been looking for all along...Not being able to think with our heads and just choosing to blindingly follow the crowd leads to some really hilarious results, sometimes.

But he still insists on using apple carplay, with his shitty wayze app. I have android. But don't even use android auto. Just the native apps. Nothing would change if I get an IPhone. And don't forget the ability to preheat the battery pack in cold weather prior to charging. This is only available when you use the car's Google maps navigation. For me it's one of the best aspects of using Google all the time. I have an iphone but I never plug it in to the Polestar. Phone calls, music, podcasts and even when the kids want to DJ from their phones, it all happens via Bluetooth and media player. I have friends who own Teslas and they are jealous of the Polestar software. The only thing missing is the augmented reality that displays vehicles around you.
