Pole Barn Build - Start to Finish: Timelapse Full Workshop with Loft
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We've done it! The new pole barn workshop has become a reality for the Retro Revivals crew! We still have some work to do but in this video we will walk through the process of this full build from start to finish over the past two months. It was a little tricky because the area where we had the barn built was a hill with a decent slope in the front and back. We'll show the initial post holes, framing, trusses, roofing, concrete, doors, sealing the concrete, and construction of the loft. We'll also start to fill it up when we move in Harvey (our vintage Dodge RV from 1976) along with our 1967 Ford F100 and our 1973 Holiday Rambler Vacationer travel trailer.

Put sheet insulation on the walls of the bigger room before you put up shelved. Just buy 2" foam and cut and put it up. Otherwise, you will have move all the shelves and unload them later. You might be able to find some builders with some less than perfect foam you could use. A sheet or two will at least get a couple of areas done so you can put up the shelves.

Sounds like us rn now got a new property and just to get power 500ft to the entrance, was quoted 15k, doesn't include to where our first structure is going to be. So we've been looking into solar generators from ECO Flow and maybe trying to get the full stack while we start working the land.
Have the Electricians put in 200 amp panel, run the wires to all the outlets, & lights in the barn, have them install a box on the outside wall to hook up a generator to the panel to run the barn. the portable generator can be outside possible with a cover over it, so that you don't hear the noise and smell the exhaust. when done for the day then unplug the generator and bring inside, that way it wont be stolen. until you have enough money saved to put a house generator outside to power the barn. Just a thought.

Thanks! Hey, so, your name is solar life off grid... we might need your help! Are you an expert in that area? We're strongly considering solar to power the barn.
Solar to run anything other than lights is expensive. What I did for 5 years was ran a 10 Guage 30 Amp circuit to my building from my house. You can do a lot with 30 amps. Then I had gas generator when I needed to weld or plasma cut. I also built a gas powered air compressor and saved my pennies for a proper 200amp service.

If you are. Thinking about generators. It's a possibility for the power looking to natural gas generators. You can use it for your shop, but you can also have it converted into your house. When the power does go out, they can put it on a grid and it is phenomenal. The only thing you will have to do is do. An oil change on it once a year. My mother and father converted their home over to a natural gas generator after the whole 2003 Eastern seaboard, half of the US when there was the major blackout that happened back then. And I'll tell you what because everything is run off of computers. Even if you do have a generator, you still have to go to a gas station and get fuel whereas with natural gas. You don't have to fill your generator up. It will run off of a natural source. It is an amazing innovation in the modernization of home building. And resources.

We're definitely open to all possibilities. We appreciate that suggestion!
By Michigan standards, 32 inches deep as your frostline.Or what they consider as you are frostline, so anything beneath? That is ideal for placing polls for Dex or Barnes.Or as you call it the pole barn which is not just a reference term that is used in just michigan or the midwest it is all over the place. I live in Tennessee now but I am from your general neck of the woods.I was born and raised on the East Side of Detroit near 7 and Mac.And then I moved a little bit North to Mount Clemens. And in two thousand and fifteen I moved to brighton tennessee and yes they call them polbarn stone here as well. So glad to see you guys have finally got the show on the road and can finally have a viable workspace rather than just using your back forty and your garage l o l.😊

Thanks for the comment, James, we're excited to get to work out in this barn. We thought pole barn was a pretty universal term but we had a few comments mentioning how it was funny that midwesterners called them pole barns so we started to wonder 😆. Thanks for watching!
Make a french drain in front of the concrete to help divert the water before you put the stone in. Once you put the larger stone in, choke it off with granulated slag and it will harden up just like concrete.

Congratulations! Your channel is awesome and ya’ll are awesome too! I would say go slow as you setup the floor! Maybe let the design come to you as you work! Recommend staying mobile with tools and such until that design reveals itself to ya! Also you could get your power box/breakers in and then connect via a proper extension cord from the house! Seen it done many times! Not sure how legal it is but it works! Blessings 👊🙏

Glad you explained the shingles. I was going to ask. Looks great. Now if you can just find some good used shelving for the cheap, it will help keep things straightened. That would be amazing! We definitely need something like that. The power company has been so difficult to deal with :-( We'd love to have power without them.
Need to find someone who can do a 3D scan of the Holiday Vacationer plastic plaque then edit it to restore its shape, then resin 3D print one for making a silicone mold to cast new ones. Another way to do it would be to put it on a flatbed scanner then use the image as a background guide in 3D modeling software to make the STL model from scratch. Either way, once you have the mold you might get some other Vacationer owners wanting new plaques. They could be made fade proof by filling the letters and outline with colored resin then when that sets cast the rest in white.
@retrorevivals

That's a really good idea. Ours are in pretty good shape but do have some cracks... might not be a bad idea to cast some new ones with resin. Using different colors of resin would be a great idea too. Thanks for watching!
Your shop looks great! I think the big room would be great for tool storage, engine work etc. This may be just me or my eyes playing tricks, but at the end of the video it looks liet that back corner post doesn't go all the way to the slab. Am I seeing things? As always, I really enjoy your videos and can't wait to see you renovate the Holiday Rambler.

The posts had the bottom 5 or 6 feet coated in some kind of greenish substance presumably to make them more resistant to rot since they get buried... you were probably seeing the end of that green stuff :-)
Can I just offer a suggestion about your downspouts? Even if you didn’t ask….get yourselves some PVC pipe to put over those down spouts on the ground to prevent smashing them over time. Small price for peace of mind and detergent of wear and tear.
I think you could get a decent off grid solar kit with batteries for close to 13k!
